  I remember the nineties with Perry Ellis everywhere, yet I always found them synthetic and overpowering. I thought Sophia Grojsman’s 360 was the first of its kind, but she was a genius from 1985 with her initial two fragrances. Her style was a unique blend of extravagance and elegance, featuring deconstructed clothing that merged chic and simplicity, captivating people back then. The advert photo says it all: two models in white, elegant yet simple pieces, with the sea in the background and the slogan ‘American Spirit’. The women’s fragrance is an exquisite surprise, bearing no resemblance to anything the brand released after that genius departed. It’s a romantic floral with character, lacking the drama of the eighties but boasting unique base notes no longer available. The moment you spray it, you smell sweet pineapple with aldehydes and a shy hint of violet. You have no idea how glorious it is to smell that pineapple so artfully blended with civet and amber; it gives it a divine character. Ylang-ylang and rose provide the floral side. The trail is light, but the longevity is excellent; it doesn’t shout for attention nor go unnoticed. It’s refined, elegant, romantic and simple yet substantial. The quality of the notes is outstanding. It reminds me of Guy Laroche’s Clandestine, launched a year later, which shares many notes, though Laroche has plum, honey and more pronounced white flowers that slightly alter the resemblance. It’s an exquisite fragrance, an evocative and romantic floral. This review is for the Eau de Toilette; the Eau de Parfum must surely be a marvel.
