  I’ve tried it twice; while there are things I like, ultimately the flaws win out. It’s a chaotic fragrance, especially at first: incense, myrrh, bitter galbanum, cinnamon, and dark dry tobacco, with a waxy touch of Ylang. It’s warm and full of nuances, yet nothing is well-blended; it feels like a potpourri of notes shoved in without care to see what happens. In the middle, the leather, cinnamon, and floral geranium dominate as the galbanum and tobacco fade; it smells less dark, more arid and spiced, with the cinnamon always present. Finally, it turns balsamic with a faint vanilla and the geranium-cinnamon accord, but it takes far too long to arrive. I see it as more masculine and suited to cooler climates. Performance is potent for the first two hours, then moderate-to-high. It’s a tough one: I like the initial tobacco, but that olive-like afternote I detect ruins everything. I enjoy the arid dry-down with geranium and cinnamon, but it comes late. The performance is good, but the price is very high. In short, it hasn’t won me over; perhaps for others it’s a masterpiece, but for me it’s complicated and I just haven’t caught its charm.

  To me, it’s a spiced amber with bay, a reimagining of Bay Rum that recalls Covet. It smells of slow-motion smoky spices and fine woods warmed but not scorched. The rich, green bay adds a warm, deep, almost earthy touch, like an old wooden wardrobe full of aged dried spices—enveloping and nothing too shouty.
