  It smells sweet, oriental, and masculine, yet much fresher than Fougera Bengale. If I were given a whiff without being told the brand, I’d swear it was by Frapin, but it’s a masterpiece by Parfum d’Empire. After five hours, the dry down leaves a surprising trail, unlike anything else, like elegant purple Chimos sweets. It’s a curious, fresh oriental scent, ideal for those who love orientals. Unisex and perfect for any time of year.

  This P.E. is singular. The opening is the best of Wazamba: sweet apple with cypress and incense create a sparkling combo, like lemon drops, very balsamic thanks to the resins and with a smoky touch that lasts until the end. Then that opening fades and only the resins, woods, and smoke remain, less interesting in dry down. It evokes Africa and its culture, although I only see lemon drops and incense. It’s not a bad fragrance, but I can’t find the creator’s vision and it’s not very versatile. Rating: 6.5.

  At first, it sparkles just like Montale’s Full Incense. Then liturgical incense takes over, blended with cypress and sweet, green resins. From the mid-notes to the dry down, it’s very linear with no surprises. The performance is fair: it projects strongly but fades to skin quickly. The longevity isn’t long either. It feels more masculine to me due to that incense. It hasn’t disgusted me, nor has it won me over; there are better incense options out there. Plus, it has nothing to do with Lutens’ Fille en Aiguilles: here we have cypress and other sweets, whereas there we have pine and a different path.
