  Amanu is woody, yet the woods recede into the background to let that striking blood orange take centre stage: fresh but not sharp, with a sweet touch and neroli-like floral nuances thanks to the jasmine. The result is very natural and well-executed. There’s a green facet from the galbanum that enhances the citrus and brings out the scent of leaves, while the cedar in the heart notes makes you smell the trunk. The musky dry-down fixes this woody aspect until the very end, with a mossy and slightly damp feel. The quality and blend are good. Longevity is decent, not excellent, and projection is low, making it ideal for hot days. I would have wished for more sillage. The effect is like smelling a whole orange tree: first the fruit, then the leaves, and finally the bark and roots, all very realistic. Rating: 6
