Descripción

New York Intense by Nicolai Parfumeur Createur is an aromatic woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2014, this composition features the olfactory signature of Patricia de Nicolai. The top notes unfold with bergamot, lemon, hyssop, and thyme; the heart reveals lavender, cloves, chamomile, and cinnamon; while the base settles on incense, resins, styrax, musk, and tonka bean.

I like it. It starts with lemon, then moves into a spicy phase with lots of black pepper, cloves and a bit of lavender. The base is oakmoss with vanilla touches and dirty nuances. It’s a citrus scent at the start, with a very spicy, classic and masculine heart. It’s versatile, the performance is good and the longevity lasts a long time. The truth is it has too much black pepper for my taste. Ideal for spring, autumn and winter, both day and night.

NY Intense smells like a renewed classic, with character and more than enough quality. It starts with citrus where the cider takes charge, then moves to a potent vintage heart with lavender, moss and cloves, closing on a musky and dirty base with spices (according to pedjalazaro, perhaps there’s a bit too much pepper), without being even a little bit ugly, but it can evoke the vibe of Azzaro Pour Homme or Kouros. Over time, the citrus load drops and it becomes more earthy and dense, until settling into a classic, herbal and clean vibe. I love the beginning and the end more; it’s wearable, although sometimes it touches ground that can be hard for some. Fans of 80s perfumes will fall in love with it, because it elevates the quality and strength of what today’s reformulations have ruined, giving it its own pinch of originality. I see it as super masculine, versatile, with beastly performance and for everything from semi-formal to formal. I like it, recommend trying it, although I think I need a few more years to wear it. Rating: 7.5/10. Thanks, Tony.

Bravo! Bitter orange, butter cookie, plenty of oakmoss, dreamy lavender, earthy patchouli and a touch of animal funk. This fragrance is a dirty-fresh masculine of high contrast, super saturated, with distinctive and extremely high-quality materials. It’s so complex it took me months to unravel it. Is it a fougère? Yes. Is it smoky? Also. Very much in the line of Guerlain, it has facets of Mitsouko, Habit Rouge and Derby. (Yesterday I wore my Jules de Dior, and it also has an echo of those green, wet and herbal notes, with a bitter touch). It’s a maximalist composition, with multiple layers. The warm spices, especially cloves and cinnamon, mix with a dry vanilla and an amber facet of labdanum, while the acidity of the cider and the freshness of the green notes remain present throughout the evolution. (Side note: I read somewhere that this fragrance is a tribute by Patricia de Nicolaï to Alpona by Caron (1939), the last perfume composed by Ernest Daltroff before his exile from France due to the Nazi occupation. Apparently, New York Intense emulates the style and composition of that classic.) The overall effect is luxurious, a bit aristocratic and somewhat formal. For me, it’s too heavy in extreme heat; better to reserve it for fresh or temperate climates. I plan to wear it at my next formal evening event… in that context it will be a huge success. A magnificent composition.

I really like this brand, classic aromas modernised for our times. This is my fourth perfume and I can say with some knowledge that they all follow the same woody, citrus and spicy base. This scent starts very similar to what I know: citrus, woody and slightly spicy. It reminds me a lot of Acqua di Parma Essenza and Dior’s Eau Sauvage parfum. After ten minutes it starts to take its own direction, revealing the oakmoss, something very subtle of musk and cinnamon. In my very personal opinion, I sense hay, the same scent as the Pravia hay line. I love it and it reminds me a lot of my adolescence, my mum used to use a lot of this brand’s soap, shampoo and balm. Classic perfume, not groundbreaking but very tasty for those who like vintage perfumes, especially from the 70s and 80s. To wear formally or semi-formally, for all seasons except winter or very cold climates. I recommend it for more mature men, over 30 years old. Scent 8/10 Sillage 8/10 Projection 8.5/10 Longevity 4/10

  • This smells like the 70s/80s, with lots of moss and a slight modern touch. Redundant if you have many vintage perfumes, but it can be an option if you want to add a retro scent to your collection that feels quality. Of course, don’t buy blindly.

  • What a great bargain; it smells vintage and is super masculine. It gives me air to the classic Puig Agua Brava, but here the ingredients are of another quality, it lasts longer and is versatile.
