Born into the illustrious Guerlain family, Patricia de Nicolai was destined for greatness in the world of perfumery. As the great-granddaughter of Pierre Guerlain and the niece of Jean-Paul Guerlain, she grew up immersed in the legacy of her family’s creations. After studying chemistry at university, Patricia pursued her passion for perfume and attended the prestigious ISIPCA in Versailles, where she honed her skills in the art of fragrance.

Despite her impressive pedigree, Patricia de Nicolai faced gender discrimination in the early stages of her career. With the support of her uncle Jean-Paul Guerlain, she worked at Florasynth and later at Quest International, where she collaborated with Sophia Grojsman on the iconic Lancôme perfume Trésor. In 1988, Patricia took a bold step and, together with her husband Jean-Louis Michau, launched her own brand, Parfums de Nicolaï, which has since become a respected name in the world of luxury fragrances.

Some of her most famous creations include New York Intense, Fig Tea, Patchouli Intense, Cuir Cuba Intense and Vanille Tonka. Patricia’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship has earned her numerous awards, including the International Prize for Young Perfumers in 1988 and the French Legion of Honour in 2008. In addition to her work with Parfums de Nicolaï, Patricia serves as president of the Osmothèque, a venerable French perfume archive.

Founded in 1989, Parfums de Nicolaï has quickly gained a reputation for exceptional quality and creativity. Patricia and her son Axel continue the family tradition of crafting distinctive, elegant fragrances that capture the essence of luxury. The brand is unique in its commitment to oversee every aspect of the creative process, from sourcing the finest natural essences to manufacturing the finished product.

Parfums de Nicolaï’s first boutique opened in Paris in 1989, with a small laboratory visible to visitors, showcasing the craft behind the brand. Since then, the company has expanded its presence, opening additional boutiques in Paris, London and beyond. Throughout its growth, Parfums de Nicolaï has remained committed to the principles that inspired Patricia and her husband to create their brand: a commitment to artistic vision, craftsmanship and quality.

Over the years, Patricia de Nicolai has introduced a series of innovative fragrances, including the first Eau Fraîche, Eau d’Eté, in 1997, and Fig-Tea in 2000, which quickly became a sensation in Asia. In 2015, she received the Prix Olfactorama in the ‘Enthousiasme’ category for New York Intense, an Eau de Parfum version of her flagship fragrance.
