Descripción

Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent is an oriental vanilla fragrance for women. Launched in 2014, this composition was created by Nathalie Lorson, Marie Salamagne, Olivier Cresp and Honorine Blanc. The top notes reveal pear, pink pepper and orange blossom; the heart unfolds coffee, jasmine, bitter almond and licorice; while the base notes complete the olfactory pyramid with vanilla, patchouli, cashmere wood and cedar.

I smelled it by chance in an airport shop in Boston and fell in love. Its notes blend so delicately and its longevity is very good. So far, it has been my favourite perfume.

  • I HATE IT; never has an aroma seemed so disgusting to me. I’ve seen it recommended as one of the best and most praised, but I’ve smelled it on my skin and on blotting paper and I can’t stand it. It’s too sour from the coffee; I see nothing youthful in it, nor zero, rather it seems like a scent for women over 60. I don’t feel the sweetness, only the bitterness of the coffee. But perfumes are like art; everyone feels something different, and many like it 🙂

  • Yeli parfum

In my opinion, it’s a beautiful composition with many nuances, but on my skin it doesn’t last, it evaporates very quickly, bad luck. Enjoy it on those skins where it does last.

Who hasn’t had Black Opium? I think it was one of my first perfumes, and every time I wear it, it’s like returning to a happy place. Winter, nocturnal, very warm and pleasant; a safe bet for a winter night. I stopped using it because everyone had it, and in my case, I like to have an exclusive scent.

  • When I smelled it, I didn’t understand the hype. It’s sweet and potent, but far from youthful; it seems very synthetic, perhaps for older ladies. Such potency is perceived as the scent of cheap perfume. Personally, it’s not to my liking.

  • I always say that if a perfume is popular, there’s a reason. Although it has notes to be my signature, I can’t see myself wearing it. The jasmine drives me mad, but here it’s not realistic enough for me, and the coffee? Not even on television; what a pity. Still, I believe it’s a classic. It’s my sister’s perfume, so I associate it with a lovely feeling. That said, it has nothing to do with the original Opium; it’s not a flanker of anything, so it makes no sense for it to share a name with my signature.

  • As a coffee lover, this is divine. Sensual, mature, glamorous, caramelised… I don’t care about the hate; let them say it’s basic, sour, bitter, or without personality. I love this perfume, whatever it may be for others. To each their own taste. Seductive, caramelised, with roasted coffee, extravagant and radiant. I feel divine, with an elegant and wealthy vibe, perfect for dates, meetings, or night events. It reminds me of a dominant woman, suggestive, and perhaps a bit lascivious. Ideal for cold weather and autumn, and for nights… its bottle shouts it. It’s exquisite, mature, and caramelised without losing sweetness. Did I already say it’s divine? With incredible performance and an even greater trail. One of my most complimented perfumes. Poor souls who read the reviews; perhaps that’s why they don’t buy it blindly. Of intoxicating but not suffocating charm. I would buy it again without doubt.

  • What can one say about this jewel that seems like a global clone? Nothing resembles it; I adore it and always receive it as a gift. It’s sexy, nocturnal, and utterly unique♥️

  • I’ve had it for years and always receive compliments. Perhaps it’s basic or mass-produced, but the scent is incredible: vanilla and coffee with patchouli in the background that gives it darkness. Although I’m not a fan of patchouli, here it’s perfectly blended and doesn’t stand out. I see it as perfect for going out at night with friends, for picking up someone, and for girls aged 35-40; it’s very sexy but not adult, rather playful/spicy. When perfumes are popular, there’s a reason.

  • I love it. That’s why it’s one of the most used. It has presence and all its notes combine in a sublime way. It’s not a heavy perfume, but I see it more for night wear.

  • If you enjoy compliments, this is ideal. Every time I wear it, more than one person asks what I’m wearing. It’s delicate, yet the delicious vanilla is unmistakable. I’d describe it as a table with a jasmine vase, vanilla cake, pear feet, and all hot coffee; that blend is perfect.

  • A scent with HUGE presence. It’s not for those who want to smell delicate or sweet, but for those who want to make an impact and give an impression of luxury, night out, or party. When I smell it, I think of high heels and a short black dress. I recommend it as a night perfume for girls who don’t want to feel delicate or sweet… lots of cocoa, milk coffee, vanilla, wood, and almond.

  • Manu_speranza

Sweet, white floral, with a touch of coffee and vanilla and a bit of talc. I like it, but I don’t love it; I need to use it more to write a more complete review.

  • Chocolate con licor

I can’t find the great fuss about this perfume; honestly, I don’t like it. It smells very strongly of vanilla, coffee, and pear, a strange and unpleasant mix, without seduction or good taste. It smells too strong and has a heavy sillage; even with one spray, it seems shrill and nonsensical. I wouldn’t even want to smell it on another woman, besides the fact that it’s very mass-produced. I’ve heard of several clones, and even Vitamina Night seems better to me.

  • I like it; it doesn’t drive me mad. Perhaps I’m a bit bored and everything smells similar to me, but doesn’t it have something of Prada Paradoxe? Since I met it first, I prefer it. I’ll see how the dry-down is.

  • Beautiful for gourmand lovers; it’s more complex than expected, but it remains a commercial scent. I’ve received many compliments and it will always be my winter favourite. The longevity and sillage are disappointing, but it’s very compatible with my skin; I detect all the described notes. Coffee and vanilla stand out, with occasional hints of the others.

Well, the fragrance has changed over the years, but I have my little collection and I’m about to finish the second 100ml bottle. It’s one of my favourites. No matter how much other fragrances try to imitate it, they can’t match it. It has a special note: it smells cosy yet fresh, like a mix of winter and spring perfumes. I always use it and never get tired of smelling it :3 I still don’t know if it’s delicate or wild, but everyone loves it when they smell it 😌

  • What can I say about this… It was the first in my collection and I still love it as much as the first day. It’s my workhorse for going out at night and feeling sexy and interesting. It’s intense, deep, and seductive. Although it has woody notes, they don’t stand out; instead, the pepper and coffee give that initial kick that lasts for hours before yielding to vanilla, patchouli, and bitter almond. Use it in the first two years, because over time it becomes heavier and resinous. The longevity is huge: I’ve used it thousands of times for dancing and the next day, after showering, I can still smell it. I repurchase it every time I finish it; it’s a must-have.

  • My first perfume and the one I dislike the most now. At first, I absolutely LOVED it: long-lasting, sexy, and playful. The vanilla is sweet, almost artificial, but the spices add warmth. Pink pepper lightens it up, and by the end, the base gains depth and dynamism (sounds pretentious, but it’s the best thing about it). The longevity and sillage are EXCELLENT; the next day, after showering, I could still smell it after just three sprays. It’s a scent hard to hate, but it’s too popular. Once I realised that, I lost interest. It’s common now, with almost identical clones (like Nuit de Ciel). It used to be my go-to for going out and special occasions, but now it smells even in the square. It’s not bad, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

  • I bought my first Black Opium when it launched. Back then I preferred fresh scents and used it only for winter parties. A few months later I got tired of it; it smelled everywhere and there were so many imitations, so I didn’t repurchase. Ten years later, my tastes have changed. Who would have thought I’d fall in love with sweet, intense perfumes? I bought one again a month ago. I love it. On my skin, the coffee, vanilla, and licorice stand out. Since I don’t go out at night anymore, I wear it during the day and it doesn’t seem so strong. It might smell less intense than before, or perhaps my nose has got used to it, but I like to feel it all day, and the good thing is I don’t smell it everywhere. I hope they don’t discontinue it.

  • Elenperfume

Coffee, vanilla, and patchouli. It’s very common, but it’s one of my favourites. At first, it can be overwhelming, especially since I don’t usually like patchouli, but once it dries down, it smells beautiful: warm, cosy, and mature. It’s perfect for romantic dinners and, above all, for going clubbing. It’s very sexy and I’ve received many compliments wearing it.

  • cuarentaydos

My old reliable. I know many people use it, but I mix it with berry perfumes and it creates a super original scent <3.

  • Lovely perfume, ideal for going out at night in autumn or winter. It lasts a long time; it reminds me of the Good Girl style but with more coffee scent and more intensity. I didn’t buy it because I preferred its flanker, Illicit Green.

  • araxieldoyel

It wasn’t my first perfume, but one of the first I repurchased. I agree with many reviews: I got tired of smelling it; it’s a shame, but I’m grateful it was my gateway to seeking more interesting scents.

  • Tatiecheverrip

What I love is that it’s spectacular: the balance between sweetness, freshness, and that coffee note makes it elegant and cosy. It lasts hours on clothes, but barely four on the skin. It’s not very projecting, but it’s so pleasant I wear it even to bed.

  • Undoubtedly my favourite perfume. The sweetness of the vanilla blends perfectly with the warm, mysterious coffee, and the white floral touches make it more elegant and less one-dimensional. Simply exquisite and magnetic.

  • Thanks to the god of perfumes for this creation that’s been around for over a decade and continues to fascinate coffee lovers. It’s an absolute classic, an era icon with an incredible presentation. ☕️🫶🏻

  • How tastes change with age! I tried it when I was young and didn’t like it; now I prefer intense, sweet aromas and tried this gem again: I loved it, it’s now on my wishlist ❤️ It smells floral and sweet, and its coffee note is enigmatic and unique.

  • One of the most disappointing purchases I’ve made. It smells nice, yes, but it fades in minutes. I have a local dupe that lasts far longer and costs a tenth of the price. For the price, I wouldn’t recommend it at all. I use it to mix with others, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

  • I bought it blind and absolutely love buying blindly, but… where’s the coffee? I can’t detect it. I was looking for something intense and bitter, but this is more sweet, delicate, and incredibly wearable. Not for winter, but suitable all year round.

  • NormaCuevas

I’m quite surprised they don’t list caramel. To me, it’s a caramel macchiato (coffee and caramel) from the very first spray and remains predominant in the heart alongside the other notes. On the base, I detect the listed notes, subtle but present. It’s not among my favourites as it’s not my style, but I think it’s good for evening wear, mainly in winter.

  • geomeun.apyeon

Haha 🙂 I simply don’t exist without this perfume. I’m finishing the bottle now, so I’m hoping to buy another. It carries YSL’s signature jasmine: fresh, versatile, not cloying and sweet. Perfect for day and night. I wore it in summer and found it refreshing; in winter it becomes much more potent. I wouldn’t call it extremely elegant or strictly nocturnal; it remains youthful, sparkling and versatile. Longevity is slightly on the shorter side, but I like that I can reapply without overwhelming anyone. I just hope the 2015 EDT version returns; that was closer, though a touch sweeter. Anyway, I think there’s plenty of Black Opium left if they don’t reformulate it again again ♡

  • thesongofhecate

For many years this was my signature scent; now I prefer a flanker like Black Opium Over Red. Reviewing it as I once loved it: an elegant aroma dominated by coffee, patchouli, vanilla and pear. Sweet, warm and soft, it leaves a trail wherever it goes. I received many compliments from men. Good longevity, though not lasting until the next day. A classic I would buy again if you’re a fan of the brand and coffee.

  • Woman in Love

A spectacular night-time scent: sweet, seductive and with tremendous presence. It’s incredibly beautiful. On very young girls it can be a bit too much, but on a confident woman who knows her worth… it’s pure luxury. Longevity and trail are moderate.

  • Black Opium is a scent I love, but I feel it’s already massively overused. At first there are floral notes, a light touch of pear and pepper, then a delicate coffee with vanilla. The longevity is good, about six hours (I’m exaggerating). I barely detect the patchouli; it sits somewhere between gourmand and floral.

  • Ayelén Terán

When I first bought it, I thought it smelled wonderful, but over time I noticed it didn’t last long and barely lingered. I like the blend; it’s a good formula, but simply didn’t work for me.

  • I went to buy it for night outs, but on my skin it smells like cigarettes, which is very strange. What a pity because it smells lovely on a friend.

  • Marianela B

This perfume smells like a little coffee to me. That’s all. The most prominent note is that one.

  • On paper it’s not much, but on another skin it is TOTALLY different. Extremely seductive, captivating and striking. Made for personal encounters, never for parties or crowds. It’s a pity I don’t get much of a whiff of it; to me it smells like average vanilla or floral, nothing like this.

  • I adore vanilla perfumes and am utterly fascinated by coffee notes, but this doesn’t quite work for me. The coffee dominates so much that it dulls the sweetness, making it more nocturnal and suited to slightly older women; it smells wonderful on my mother (she’s 40) but less so on me, though it remains a rich fragrance.
