MYSLF L’Absolu by Yves Saint Laurent

Too synthetic. Only suitable for evening wear. Smells like an Arabic perfume… disgusting.

What a bombshell! I love that this isn’t a mass-market scent; it smells distinct and original. People compliment it endlessly: elegant, masculine, fresh with a balanced sweet and floral touch. It’s neither blue, nor purely floral, nor aquatic; it’s a well-tuned orchestra. Lasts about 7 hours on skin and over 4 days on clothes (verified). A masterpiece by Christophe Raynaud.

I bought it without testing, taking a risk. The 40ml bottle was the right choice; had I tested it, perhaps I wouldn’t have bought it. It’s more floral, unisex, and pricey. Although it smells good and is easy to like, it’s not a powerhouse in terms of potency or longevity. I prefer the Parfum and the EDP.

Its siblings were pleasant but lacked distinctive character. This one, however, goes straight into my collection. It maintains the spirit of the line but adds a ‘multicoloured’ floral note and a fresh spicy touch that make it unique and charming. Despite the floral load, it feels masculine. It’s clean, pleasant, and versatile. The performance is acceptable. For me, it’s the best in the collection and one of the best launches of the year.

Smells like freshly washed bed linen, with a slightly sweet, talcum-powdered edge. It’s clean, neutral, white-shirt man. I use it when it’s fresh, for afternoon strolls or cold office days (2-3 sprays). It also works for cold nights, though don’t expect a ‘beast mode’; you’ll get compliments because it doesn’t bother anyone. I like the longevity and trail, less so the price which competes with Prada L’Homme or Born in Roma by Valentino for less. For me, the best in the MYSLF line; it’s not green like its siblings. Longevity: 9/10, Trail: 8/10, Price: 6/10.

Myslf L’Absolu is woody, spicy, and floral. If you know the original EDP, this is similar but more woody and spicy, with a higher load of sweetness, vanilla, ginger, and cardamom, while keeping the typical white flowers of the line. The warm spices make it less versatile, ideal for autumn and winter, though in spring/vern it could be worn in the evening. It lasts over 8 hours on me; the trail is moderate for the first hour and then drops but doesn’t disappear. It’s not bad, although it faces strong competition from Valentino Uomo Born In Roma Intense or Azzaro’s Most Wanted. Give them a try and decide if it’s worth it.

I’ve just bought it and, although I need to test the performance more, my experience so far is this: very floral, with a strong note of orange blossom and other official notes. I see it as very formal and elegant; in fact, I bought it to wear several times a week, with a suit, tie or blazer and open shirt, preferably in light colours for that spring-like scent. It can be worn at any age, although it calls for serious attire, associating with a more mature profile. It’s a unisex masculine scent and very versatile in terms of time and occasion, I think that’s its strong point. As for performance, on my skin it lasts a short while, at most 5-6 hours. The projection is intense at first, but as the longevity is short, it fades quickly. I think I should reapply. For what you pay, it’s not enough. I should use it more on clothes to see if it improves with oxidation. Notes: Scent 8, Versatility 9, Longevity 6, Projection 7. FINAL SCORE: 7.5.

I’ve tried it several times and it’s honestly the best in the entire line: top-notch longevity and a wonderful scent, 10/10. BUT… paying 110€ for 100ml seems outrageous and insane to me. Let’s hope the price comes down.

120 euros… it just blows my mind.
