Descripción

Scandal by Jean Paul Gaultier is a chypre floral fragrance for women. Launched in 2017, this composition was created by Daphné Bugey, Fabrice Pellegrin and Christophe Raynaud. The top notes unfold the freshness of blood orange and mandarin; the heart reveals a sweet blend of honey, gardenia, orange blossom, jasmine and peach; while the base notes land with the warmth of beeswax, caramel, patchouli and licorice.

This perfume didn’t catch my attention at first; I didn’t understand all the hype, but today I’m wearing it and enjoying it a lot. I wouldn’t buy it again, though; for honey, I prefer my beloved Illicit.

  • Loreamaranta

I love perfumes because the sensations they provoke are so varied; I bought it, reviewed it, hated it, sold it, and never spoke of it again. A few days ago, a nurse at work was wearing it. I recognised it immediately; she left a trail wherever she went, and it felt fabulous on her. I regretted selling it; I remember a couple of people who smelled it on her and said it was delicious. Perhaps I wasn’t in my best moment. What a pity.

  • Playas1010

Like Scandal à la Parisienne with a very similar honey touch; both have around 80% good longevity, lasting more than 10 hours, and good sillage, a 9/10.

  • I bought the 50ml presentation because I’d read reviews describing it as a very sexy, scandalous perfume, which was exactly what I was looking for, with great longevity. However, I regretted it immediately. The longevity was as expected, but I can’t stand the sweetness of the perfume; it’s too honeyed and I feel it might be too personal (if you don’t enjoy things that are overly sweet). I suppose it was my mistake because I wanted something for daily wear, but definitely if you’re looking for something like this, this perfume isn’t for that.

  • What a perfume! Every time I wear it, someone compliments it—honeyed, caramelised, sweet, sexy… Ufff, I love it.

  • The first time I smelled it, I said ‘nooo!’ too much honey, almost like a liqueur. Recently we had a very cold winter (I’m a fan of winter as it’s where these opulent, mega-sweet fragrances really shine) and I didn’t stop using it. Totally in love, it was just a matter of finding the right climate. It’s in cold times where it cast its magic spell on me; obviously, I wouldn’t even consider it in summer. Next winter, I’ll surely reunite with this little bottle of pure honey.

  • I think I didn’t try it at the right time; the first time I smelled it (in March) I loved it, but it wasn’t what I expected on my skin. Now (in September) I’ve smelled it again and I like it. I need to test it on my skin once more to see how it goes.

  • Honey, honey, and more honey… A resounding no when I first tried it, but I couldn’t stop smelling it all day… and I ended up buying it again. It’s true that it improves in the cold and you can’t stop smelling it. It has something that wraps around you, that traps you. Addictive.

  • It must be one of my favourite gourmands. It’s executed brilliantly with that super honeyed note that makes you want to eat the perfume, yet it’s also sexy, like a pollinated flower full of bee honey—something I personally adore. It’s cloying, so I’d recommend it totally to those who enjoy sweet scents.

  • algopasaconpili

Very sweet, with honey coming out at first and settling as it dries down. There’s a subtle hint of licorice at the end, but it’s a honey gourmand where everything else is eclipsed by that sweetness. I love it; it gives me great vibes.

  • PerfumeurAmateur

Didn’t quite get it; I tried it but nothing happened. At first, it smells like natural honey, but then it turns super artificial on my skin. I couldn’t take it, so I showered and scrubbed it off with a brush. Never again! The honey note is persistent and sharp—I even smelled it at the back of my nose. For me, it’s a no. When I smell So Scandal and Scandal, they feel very artificial, whereas Scandal Le Parfum is much better and more tolerable. What a pity; I really wanted to like it. I think there might be an issue with JPG’s raw materials.

  • I absolutely love this perfume; I only wear it for special occasions and I adore that it still smells strongly the next day. I love it so much and I’m in love with it.

  • Sweet and honeyed. I can’t distinguish the floral or citrus top notes. It has good longevity and projection. It generates compliments and, even if it’s not your favourite, it’s always nice to receive them. Ideal for scarves and winter.

  • I’ve been wearing it for some time; it’s versatile and has incredible longevity, even on clothes where it lingers. It smells sweet but not cloying, it’s sexy, youthful, and a real treat.

  • madeinfrance

I can’t handle this one. Very sweet at first, and as it dries down, I notice the patchouli is very prominent and I dislike it. The licorice note isn’t great either. It’s potent, heavy, lasts hours, and projects a lot. Very gourmand. Test before buying blindly; it’s not for everyone.

  • We went to try it and my boyfriend was so startled he ruled it out. A 4.5… He didn’t say anything specific, just that he didn’t like it, haha. For me, honestly, it doesn’t smell very sweet.

  • I was reluctant to try it for some reason, as honey is my favourite note. Now I say I love it; on my skin, it’s pure honey with caramel and jasmine. It lasts for hours and I enjoy it in this cold winter.

  • An exquisite honey-bomb. I loved it when I tried it; the longevity and projection are top-notch. I haven’t bought it yet as I find it pricey and am convinced by Cher 18, but I might purchase it in the future.

  • oliendobonito

Don’t be alarmed if you dislike patchouli, as it isn’t the main event here. It’s a bomb of honey and caramel, super sweet yet elegant. It’s sexy, lasts over eight hours on clothes, and is noticeable from a metre away.

  • Mayitaperfums

A wonderful perfume with rich, sweet honey; I wear it every day, perfect for autumn and winter.

  • In my opinion the best of the Scandals. From the opening it has a potent honey note; at first I can detect the orange and the honey, and in the dry down it’s the honey with a bit of gardenia and orange blossom, but what is most perceptible without a doubt is the honey, very well done and very natural. I find it very sexy. As it’s very sweet it’s recommended for cold days, but honestly I’ll wear it on any occasion since this rich honey aroma doesn’t bother me at all 🐝❤️

  • This perfume is proof that tastes change. I’ve always preferred fresh, citrus and fruity perfumes, but lately I’m becoming more fond of sweet and intense ones. Scandal smells of honey, caramel and liquorice. I don’t detect the citrus opening at all; on the contrary, for me it’s quite linear: sweet, sweet, sweet. Intense and long-lasting. I use it daily because I love it, that said, only for the cold season.

  • Edie Sedgwick

My father bought me this fragrance almost as soon as it launched in Argentina in 2017, when I was 11 and absolutely obsessed with wanting, wanting the Scandal of the prostitute :p. I loved the bottle and the advert. I remember how much I loved Scandal; nowadays, with the passage of time and the popularity it has gained, in my opinion it has become vulgarity trapped in a bottle. I wouldn’t wear it even at night.

  • Malena denise

Oh, I love it, but it no longer smells youthful to me, rather like a lady. I thought it would be sweeter, but it’s quite floral and fruity. You can smell the orange, patchouli and jasmine a lot. A bit of caramel and honey, but very little.

  • Alba Gómez

Wow, this perfume is pure honey; I’ve never had one with this note before and it’s quite intense. I like it but I don’t think I’ll repurchase; the honey scent becomes so tiring after a while. That said, in summer I only apply a tiny bit; I use it for layering to create an exquisite blend with any other fresh perfume that matches (and I use a lot more of those).

  • It starts very heavy with citrus and honey 🍯🍊. Then it softens, leaving a sweet and delicate blend of honey and patchouli. Sensual, elegant and enveloping. Its projection and longevity are high, so use it in moderation. I think without a doubt this perfume is a scandal; its notes are unique, it’s strong, bold and provocative. P.S., I couldn’t handle it, I had to sell it; I recommend testing it well on skin and paper.

  • A caramel that makes you want to take a bite; smelling it raises my blood sugar 😂 Anyone who gets close will also feel like taking a bite!

  • CHIQUES ATTENTION: TERRIBLE REFORMULATION LATE 2025. I don’t know when it will hit the shelves, but be warned as they already have testers of the new version: instead of the round bottle, they’ve switched to the narrow one with ‘stripes’, and the scent is muuuuuch weaker, more floral, with less honey. BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING; CHECK THE MANUFACTURING DATE.

  • This was my first perfume; I bought it blindly looking for something long-lasting and sweet because everyone recommended it. Honestly, it didn’t kill me with its scent, but it has excellent sillage and longevity. On my skin, it starts with a potent citrus top note (which I don’t like) and then dries down to a very sweet caramel. It’s quite a heavy fragrance and is noticeable from quite a distance.

  • The opening is citrusy and caramelised, but after half an hour I only felt the honey on my skin. Honey, honey and more honey. It doesn’t smell bad if you like this note, but it can get dizzying.

  • Woman in Love

I adore it, it’s one of my super super favourites. Ultra feminine, with a sweetness that isn’t cloying, wrapped in citrus and jasmine notes. I detect a caramel sweetness in it, not honey, and it’s so pleasant… it hugs you in a super nice way. It leaves a beautiful trail and is quite long-lasting.

Scandal by Jean Paul Gaultier for Women. The notes of Scandal are a spectacle in themselves: in the opening, blood orange and tangerine explode with vibrant freshness; in the heart, honey blends with gardenia, orange blossom, jasmine and peach, creating a provocative and challenging sweetness; and in the base, beeswax, caramel, patchouli and licorice roar with force, leaving an unforgettable mark. Review from my male perspective: Scandal is not a perfume, it’s a shout of power. From the very first instant, blood orange and tangerine explode like a flash of energy, a beginning that doesn’t settle for being fresh, but announces that something big is coming. In its heart, honey becomes a weapon of seduction, enveloping the white flowers—gardenia, orange blossom, jasmine—in a provocative sweetness that isn’t innocent, but challenging. The peach adds a juicy nuance, almost insolent, intensifying the sensation of a woman who isn’t afraid to show herself as she is. And then comes the base: beeswax, caramel, patchouli and licorice. This is where Scandal transforms into a roar. It’s the part that marks territory, that leaves a mark, that turns the scent into a manifesto of presence. It isn’t delicate, it’s forceful. It isn’t discreet, it’s dominant. When I perceive this perfume on a woman, I don’t see fragility or hidden sweetness. What I feel is strength, character, irreverence. It’s as if it were saying: ‘look at me, here I am’, not in a low voice, but with the confidence of someone who knows attention belongs to them. Scandal is contemporary, current, sophisticated, but never submissive. It’s the perfume for the woman who isn’t content just to be observed, but demands to be admired. The woman who wears it becomes an absolute protagonist, a figure that dominates the scene with her mere presence. It isn’t an accessory, it’s a declaration. It’s the roar of a woman who doesn’t hide, who doesn’t ask permission, who knows she is unforgettable.

I bought it some time ago. I liked the combination of honey, sweet and citrus, but I feel it’s more floral despite having those notes. In my opinion it’s quite soft and with moderate longevity.

  • I bought it a few days ago and kept testing it. I liked its potency and longevity, as well as the intense honey note and the gourmand aspect of the perfume, but on my skin it dries out very similarly to LVEB and I hate that perfume. It also doesn’t have much longevity on my skin, considering I have the cream of the same perfume and apply it before spraying it; nevertheless, it feels very close to the skin as the hours pass, if it lingers more on clothes but not with much intensity. I like it if I like it a lot, it’s a sexy perfume, but I wouldn’t buy it again, it doesn’t fill my expectations.

  • Have you ever made orange marmalade? A sweet yet bitter little scent, that’s what I feel with this perfume. I think I bought it on impulse, I’m not entirely sure if I like it or not. I’ve never been a fan of citrus perfumes and I feel that as soon as you put it on there’s a super potent orange; after half an hour it’s a sugary touch that I love, but after 2 hours I feel it’s acidic. I don’t know if I adore it or hate it, it’s a perfume that won’t leave you indifferent. I’ll wait until winter to see if with less heat I can tolerate that acidic orange or the honey more. I tested it on cotton and things change, there it’s oranges in honey syrup, drying up super sweet. That said, it smells like vintage elegance without losing modernity.

  • Fortunately, I still have a little of the original perfume before its MASSIVE REFORMULATION… before it was sweet, elegant and overwhelming all at once… now, it’s just more of the same, a sugary citrus more of the crowd 😵😵😵. A complete disappointment, not even worth trying in a shop.

  • Scandal. One of the best perfumes I own. I rediscovered it recently and used it again as I had it abandoned. Every person I crossed paths with wearing this perfume told me compliments. They used words like rich, fine, with presence… In these last years where perfumery repeats soulless and unoriginal fragrances, this is a little gem worth noting or rediscovering, as happened to me.

  • mariasilaghii

The crown jewel. A sensual and hypnotic fragrance. Ideal for autumn and winter during the night (even on a date). I recommend it to those who love gourmand and floral scents. The honey, caramel, and white flowers are very noticeable. It lasts a long time and projects very well. Just one drop is enough to steal hearts. Definitely one of my favourites. I’ve received compliments. 10/10

  • What a gem! This perfume was an absolute sensation right from its launch; everyone was wearing it in Berlin, especially in the Turkish districts. It has beastly projection, intense and utterly seductive, ideal for the bold who don’t want to go unnoticed, even on a day out 😂. I bought it as my first treat with my first official salary at the end of 2021. I’d just moved to Berlin, starting to navigate a huge city alone, and wanted to experience everything. I wore it for night parties because at the time I got too dizzy for day-to-day wear, though I did take it on my first trip to Rome in the winter of 2022. I remember being absolutely thrilled getting ready, scenting myself early in the morning with that strong smell, having seen how Turkish girls wore it daily. It was a total success; imagine I’d just turned 24 and it was my first solo trip; I felt all-powerful with my autonomy, amplified by that tremendous scent while strolling through Rome, heading to a café and hunting for a good artisanal carbonara restaurant for lunch. Not even in the mood for another one, eh! Hahaha 😂 It’s a fragrance that definitely belongs in a night setting, but why not wear it in a capital during the day? Well, with two balls 😂. Even after the trip, capitalising on the buzz and the good memory, I wore it to work, and that really was pushing it as I ended up absolutely dizzy 😂; I definitely can’t use that scent to stay focused and calm doing my tasks; my mind was in Rome or in a parallel reality of uninhibited fun 🤪. That’s right, Scandal is the only name for this cocktail of nonsense 😂. It stayed in my collection until the end of 2024 because I came to loathe it so much, presumably due to the licorice note (the one that makes it too much, even for someone like me), so I finished it off and finally christened myself ‘Scandalous’ and that’s who I’ve remained ever after 😂😂😂
