La Belle by Jean Paul Gaultier is an oriental vanilla fragrance for women. Launched in 2019, this composition was created by Quentin Bisch and Sonia Constant. The top notes reveal a pear and bergamot; the heart unfolds floral and leather notes; while the base settles on vanilla, vetiver, amber and musk.

  • If it’s by Gaultier, it won’t go unnoticed. I think few brands stand out as much for longevity as Carolina Herrera or for eccentricity as Mugler. Gaultier is one of those where longevity and standing out are priorities. La Belle is intense, sticky, and accompanies you always. Its performance is extremely high, with vanilla as the protagonist. Although it opens with a citrus pear that I love, the beginning is confusing because it promises one direction and then changes. After a few minutes, the leather fuses with the vanilla, giving it a powerful body. Hours later, the leather fades and leaves a vanilla boosted by musk. I find the opening very nice, not so much the dry-down. Ideal for very cold climates; I see it more as a night scent than a day one. If you’re a vanilla fanatic, it’s a must-have.

SIMPLY GLORIOUS, SO SWEET AND CHARMING, HOLD ON TO YOUR HAT AND BUY IT. VANILLA ONLY AS JPG KNOWS HOW TO MAKE IT… AND YOU SILENCE.

I wrote a negative review some time ago and I regret it. I’ll swallow my words: generally, I agree, especially with @Julimo. JPG never fails. Elegant fragrances with style. At first, I hated it because I was used to lighter pears, but over time I fell in love. Just like with Divine by JPG, it’s a perfume you learn to love; it has a difficult personality and isn’t an instant love, but if you keep using it, it will surprise you. This pear with leather and vanilla is a WITCHCRAFT! It’s strident, piercing, and cloying, but I feel like a witch dancing naked around a bonfire… Wild and fearless. Sexy and ravishing. I’d even say it’s vampiric, dark, for winter/night. Super elegant. I have few fragrances with this vibe; perhaps La Petite Robe Noire Parfum is the little sister if you want something mysterious but lighter. By the way, I won’t even mention the Parfum version because it clogs the nose and in an enclosed space someone might faint… 😂

  • Pure love, and I’ll say only love. 🥰 This fragrance makes me feel happy. The pear at the beginning is delicious, and the floral accords with vanilla and vetiver give a sweet and interesting result. The day I tried it in the store, I fell in love with its evolution and how long it lasts. I knew it had to be mine. I’ll get myself a couple of spare bottles 😬 because it would hurt if they stopped selling it. I just say 10 out of 10.

  • JPG, you never disappoint me. 💞 It smells striking in every way; if it’s from the brand, elegance and extravagance are always guaranteed. The juicy pear and amber give it a special touch; sometimes it smells of caramel and roasted coffee. It’s an exquisite, sexy, feminine, and potent aroma. Perfect for autumn and winter nights. Some don’t like it because it reminds them of mature women, and that’s true, but I, being young, adore smelling sophisticated and feeling highlighted. JPG understands me. 🕯️ La Belle, I don’t know how much you love me to stay on my skin. Gaultier’s mould isn’t new, but it remains lovely and iconic. When it’s Paul, my delicate taste goes away and returns to sexy. I love it. I’d buy it again. (❁´◡`❁)

  • Here’s my opinion after using it for a week: Top, heart, and base notes are all grassy with a sweetness. In short, it’s ‘grass with vanilla’. In contrast, La Belle le Parfum is a different story.

  • Everyone says it’s exquisite; I’ve given it several chances. Since I prefer floral and fruity perfumes, it just doesn’t hook me at all. If you’re looking for something with vanilla, I’d better recommend Burberry Goddess instead.

  • karenzapata

The richest pear you’ll ever smell in your life. It’s so addictive that the first time I tried it, I couldn’t stop thinking about its scent. It’s a different kind of perfume, not for everyone. Although it’s super fruity and sweet, it has that leather touch that makes it unique and special. I absolutely love it. I’ve worn it during winter days, but I think it’s more for night. Super cheerful and sexy at the same time. I’d buy it a thousand times over.

  • I confess it smells like a heavy, cloying bonbon, yet it possesses a fatal charm. At first, it suffocated me, then it captivated me. A single drop is enough to make you shine. It smells of super-ripe, sugared pear mixed with vanilla, herbal and complex notes. Perhaps I’m hallucinating, but once dry, it smells like my Aura by Mugler. The vanilla-green contrast is magical. Ideal for autumn nights and parties. *Update: I can’t beat it; it’s my signature scent right now. 💖🍐🍦

  • I adore vanilla perfumes, but this one disappointed me. It starts strong, very sweet, and almost gave me nausea. Once dry, the vanilla is noticeable, but it still makes me feel sick. I’m a fan of JPG, but I just can’t get behind this. That said, it lasts forever and the bottle is a work of art, just like all of theirs.

  • My first impression when it arrived was average, as it smelled too much of pepper; I didn’t believe it when I saw that note wasn’t listed. After two months, it has become one of my favourite fragrances; I still notice something spicy, but I no longer detect that pepper as before; now I sense more vanilla and leather. For me, it is certainly a night perfume; it lasts quite a while on skin and on clothes, I don’t even need to tell you.

  • It’s disgusting; it gives me nausea. If someone wore that next to me, I’d report them. It smells like medicine; it reminds me of a rum and snake remedy my grandmother kept in the fridge. VOMIT-INDUCING. Cloying.

  • libhortiales

It’s rich, but that leather note, ugh, terrible. It gives me a headache like with few other scents. Every time I smell that accord, a sharp pain comes to my head. The vanilla is delicious and the rest is nice, but only for that reason neeeext. I have Kayali Sugar 28 and that is a super yes; they smell almost identical, except without that medicinal and spicy note.

  • florenciaviale

Those who criticise this fragrance or don’t like it simply don’t know Jean Paul Gaultier; his creations (excluding Scandal, which is very people-pleasing) are unique and particular. You won’t find a perfume that just smells good; he mixes uncommon notes to give it his own touch. I tested the fragrance in a perfumery and yes, its potency frightened me, but as I left, I couldn’t stop smelling it around me and it became addictive. I’m a fan of pear, and this pear is the sexiest I know; if it weren’t for the leather and vetiver notes, it would be a vanilla pear treat, but those ‘quirky’ notes elevate it and give it identity. In winter, it embraces you; it’s a perfume that transports me to the cold, sitting in a patisserie ordering an apple crumble with my leather jacket hanging on the backrest. It’s one of my favourite perfumes.

  • I can’t handle it, luckily I didn’t buy it; it smells excessively potent. That leather hits you like a slap. When I hear this cologne is highly complimentary, I don’t understand; it can’t be more suffocating and overwhelming. If someone were next to me wearing it, I’d certainly move away. That said, it lasts a nightmare on skin, on clothes, wherever you put it…

  • Potent, strident, and very, very feminine. It’s not one of my favourite perfumes, but if I had a board meeting, I’d wear it; it’s a scent that says ‘Here I am’ and they can’t do anything to me, I’m in charge. The longevity is 8 hours with a trail; I wear it in winter and for evening events. You can feel the pear, leather, and vanilla within 10 minutes; I don’t even sense the floral notes, and the musk is very low down under the vetiver. If you want a perfume to leave a mark, try La Belle; it leaves no one indifferent, I assure you.

  • MarinaSoledad

Before La Belle, I thought vanilla wasn’t for my skin. Now I’m completely in love with it. It’s what predominates most; I’d say within 10 minutes of application.

  • It’s funny that people say it’s very potent and sweet when it’s one of the softest fragrances I own in terms of intensity. I wear it in spring or all year round for work. For me, it would be a daytime and innocent note. Ultra-feminine, fruity, and it flatters me greatly. You can detect the pear opening, followed by vanilla. Abstain if you prefer light scents or ‘chirris’ that only you can smell or disappear in under an hour; if so, don’t invest in a perfume and just use body mist. For me, the trail lasts about 2 or 3 hours and becomes more personal after that, yet the scent persists at the end of the day. I love perfumes that others can smell, and personally, I prefer them to be slightly invasive, both for personal wear and when worn by others. After all, that’s what they’re for. Do not confuse it with Le Belle Intense in the gradient bottle; that one is indeed a bit more intense, yet equally charming.

  • I don’t know why, but this perfume doesn’t kill me. I expected something more vanilla-based, but it’s purely fruity. I perceive it as a fruity scent, very similar to many I’ve heard before. The longevity is quite good and it has a trail, but I wouldn’t buy it.

  • I received it today and it was love at first sniff; I bought it blind and will buy it again. I only detect the pear and vanilla: intense at first, then it settles and becomes sweeter and more enveloping. I was surprised by the trail: I sprayed twice and could smell it all afternoon without having to get close. It’s very feminine, delicate, muuuuch creamy and sweet, to the point where it could be cloying. Don’t buy it blind if you can’t tolerate sweetness. It has good longevity and has become one of my favourites.

I got it as a gift in 30ml when I bought another 100ml bottle. At first, it seemed very strong, like overripe fruit, but since I was travelling for several days, I let it rest for a week. When I tried it again, the opening was still ripe pear, but on my skin the leather stood out, very marked, giving it a distinguished touch. I don’t find it fresh despite the bergamot; the vanilla adds intense sweetness. It has a wide trail, lasts all day, and lingers on clothes for days. I wear it in autumn and winter because it’s potent; I feel it’s the unreformulated version, as I’d read that the EDP and Parfum were reformulated. It’s a fragrance bomb. My skin usually absorbs perfumes quickly, but this surprised me: it’s one of the most projecting.

  • I bought it blind (30ml) from a friend who couldn’t stand it, but I loved it from the very first second until the dry down. It’s sweet but not cloying (it all comes down to taste). I loved it so much I already bought the 100ml bottle. On my skin it lasts about 8 hours (at the end, right on the skin) and the trail about 2 hours (seems a bit short, but whatever).

  • I adore this perfume; it smells addictive. It’s sweet without being cloying, fruity, with soft to moderate projection depending on the sprays. It’s versatile for all day, feminine and ultra sexy. The pear and vanilla are very noticeable; the leather elevates the fragrance (I’m not usually a fan of leather, but here it works perfectly and blends well). It’s one of the richest pear scents I own. It’s not for everyone; I recommend trying it in a store because of that leather note that defines it. I’ll be buying it again. I love it.

  • es7rogen

My all-time favourite perfume. It smells of juicy pear at first, then evolves into a perfectly ripe vanilla 💓. The leather anchors the sweet notes beautifully, adding a mature touch for evening. I adore it. Longevity is incredible, lasting around 7-8 hours on my skin.

  • floresdepach

I bought the latest version at the freeshop because I couldn’t decide between this and its sister, Le Parfum. I must say it doesn’t suit me; it’s too sweet and feminine. Plus, it reminds me of Scandal worn by my ex. If you want it at freeshop prices, follow me on Instagram (same user) hahaha.

  • juliaguilera

A Christmas fragrance, although in Argentina Christmas is in summer, so this is more for the US version. I feel that to wear it regularly you need a very specific style that I don’t have. But it’s so lovely I’d buy a decant just for a treat. Scent: 10/10 (if it weren’t average, I’d give 1000/10). Versatility: special occasions only. Performance: 10/10, the reformulation does it justice. Rating: 10/10 for winter. Would I buy it? Yes, in a decant.

  • Juicy pear, ambered and edible. Drying down, it’s sweet with a fresh twist. Love at first sniff. Longevity is top-notch: I sprayed it at 6pm and it was still going strong at midnight. Would buy again. 10/10.

  • Smells fantastic, with excellent longevity and projection as is typical for Gaultier. It’s sexy and better suited to cooler days; in summer it can feel a bit heavy. Not really my style, but it does what it’s supposed to do.

  • What a beautiful and elegant perfume! It makes me feel confident in myself when I wear it. It’s a bomb: with just five sprays, it lasts all day and compliments rain down. 💫 I’m usually not a floral fan, but here the flowers feel great. The blend with vanilla and pear is incredible. I see it for powerful, characterful people. I’m fascinated! The only thing is I can’t use it much as where I live it’s hot almost all year 😭 and I feel it suits cold days better, especially in winter. So when the cold arrives, I use it… and I love it! ❤️ FINAL NOTE: 10/10

  • Super sexy; it makes me salivate. It’s an attractive, nocturnal, feline fragrance with a dark touch, like a sexy witch’s costume and sophisticated. For a special occasion, I don’t see it as daily wear. I always use it at Christmas and parties, as I think it suits autumnal and cold climates. The trail is enormous and the longevity too.

  • Aí aí ai… Buy blind because Recontra siii. It’s sweet but not too much… It reminds me of Ch. Léger, but nothing alike. Being a citrus lover, any sweet scent sounds like that to me. I took the plunge to buy it blind and it was a resounding YES. Longevity? It’s there, but I stop perceiving it after a few hours. But it replenishes! You always have to replenish… perfume is never enough 😜 Blind buy? Yes, yes, yes!

  • Woman in Love

A beautiful and super feminine aroma with a touch of sweetness. At first, there’s a soft acidity of bergamot, followed by pear bathed in sweet vanilla, wrapped in flowers that make it irresistible. It’s long-lasting and leaves a wonderful trail.

  • MariaIgnacia162

This is sweet, sensual, and edible; one of my favourites. I doubt I’d wear it in summer unless it’s cold or at night, as it can be cloying. You can detect the pear and vanilla, giving a dessert-like touch. I recommend it highly, but don’t buy it blindly as not everyone likes that dry-down. Ideal for dates. It’s for women 💋

  • I tried it in-store and liked it, but I wouldn’t buy it; I prefer my own perfumes and it’s not cheap here. For that price, I’d prefer Classique or So Scandal a thousand times. If gifted, I would use it. It’s sweet, slightly aquatic, and unlike Lataffa’s Teriaq, created by the same perfumer, as it’s totally different when dry.

  • I’ve used it for a couple of days and yes, I like it. On my skin, only the vanilla and sweet flowers come through; I don’t detect the leather as it doesn’t suit me, but ultimately, I’ve loved it. It’s only been a week and it already has body; at first, it was barely audible.

  • blackstone

I understand; it suits everyone. It’s sweet but has character; if you control the amount, it’s suitable all year round and looks luxurious.

  • Yeli parfum

Smells of peach, vanilla, and tonka bean with a resinous touch. At first, I thought it was a sweet mess, but I’ve grown to love it over time for its originality.
