Honestly, it caught me by surprise; I think it’s the exact dupe of Black Opium. It has that fruity and floral opening with lots of jasmine. I don’t detect any gardenia as the name suggests, but rather lots of vanilla. Although coffee isn’t listed in the notes, I do perceive the coffee touch. The trail is the same as the original, a bit weak, but the longevity is top-notch, around 8 hours. The big difference is the price, and I definitely keep Gardenia.
Absolutely Black Opium, plus it has a bit of JPG Scandal, at least to me. The longevity is ridiculous and the price, even more so. I love it; I have three units.
Absolutely Black Opium! Plus, it has a bit of JPG Scandal to me. The longevity is ridiculous and the price, even more so. I love it; I have three bottles.
I’ve always liked Zara perfumes, but I didn’t know about Gardenia, so I bought it blindly. Upon testing it on my skin, I thought: ‘But it smells like Black Opium!’. They are very similar, almost identical. The only difference is that Gardenia smells a bit more chocolatey, but subtle and not cloying. The longevity is moderate, just like with Black Opium, but the quality is superior to the price. Sometimes a high price is just for the brand and marketing, not the quality, as with Black Opium which I adore but wouldn’t buy again as it isn’t worth it. I definitely keep Gardenia.
I love it! I wear it all day and night, but in winter… now I’m looking for something similar but fresher for summer. Any recommendations? Zara or others?
I’ve always liked Zara perfumes, but I didn’t know about Gardenia, so I bought it blindly. Upon testing it on my skin, I thought: ‘But it smells like Black Opium!’. They are very similar, almost identical. The only difference is that Gardenia smells a bit more chocolatey, but not cloying at all, very subtle. The longevity and trail are moderate, just like with the YSL one, but the quality is superior to the price. Sometimes a high price is due to the brand and marketing, not the quality, as with Black Opium which I love but wouldn’t buy again as it isn’t worth it. I definitely keep Gardenia.
Absolutely delicious and incredibly cheap! Smells strong and lovely from the very first moment and lasts quite a while. I loved it!
What a lovely scent at an incredible price! The fragrance is powerful and delicious from the very first spray, and it lasts a long time. I adored it.
I loved it; I agree with the others, it’s Black Opium without the marked coffee note, which I like. For the price, it’s very good; it has 4 hours of longevity with a trail, then it softens and stays close to the skin. It’s worth it.
What a delight! It’s a creamy, sweet floral with vanilla notes. I have the Sky Blue version. It’s absolutely worth it and lasts all day. Reminds me of Black Opium, especially on the skin; although it doesn’t list coffee, the blend makes it incredibly similar and it has nothing to envy.
I loved it. I agree with the others; it’s a Black Opium but without the distinct coffee note, which I appreciate. For the price, it’s very good. It lasts four hours with a trail, then softens and sits close to the skin. Worth it.
This perfume lasts all day and lingers on clothes until washed. I love it, but I can only wear it in winter as it feels too heavy at other times. It’s a shame they reformulated it; it’s not even close to what it used to be.
It’s identical to Black Opium. An excellent copy at a very good price.
I absolutely love it, certainly for nightwear and winter… or also for autumn-winter. The scent strikes with a strong character yet isn’t heavy. It’s pleasant, with excellent longevity and projection. I’d say it has nothing to envy from high-end perfumes.
I was looking for dupes of Black Opium and found this fragrance. It’s a decent copy, but the coffee note that defines the original is a bit weak here; instead, it gives off a chocolatey hint. Still, for the price, it’s definitely worth buying.
This is my scarf perfume. One of the ones that suits me best, surely it’s our chemistry because on me it lasts, and lasts, and lasts. I need very few sprays to avoid getting dizzy, in fact. It gives a sense of warmth and I would never wear it in summer.
I love it and I smell the coffee the moment I apply it, it’s the first thing I notice. But it doesn’t remind me of Black Opium… what I do notice is that all the Zara perfumes I’ve tried lately seem to share a common ingredient I can’t identify, yet they all remind me of Carolina Herrera’s 212 Rosé.
I decided to go with your reviews and went to the perfumerie to test it on a strip of Black Opium; they seem spot on. Perhaps the coffee note is slightly more pronounced in the original. It has moderate sillage but excellent longevity, it’s sweet without being cloying and it’s noticeable without being intrusive. A good choice at a very fair price.
If you like Black Opium but find it too potent for evening wear, this is the ideal option for daytime. The opening is intense yet lighter than the original, so it doesn’t overwhelm me for daily use, plus it’s much more affordable.
Just picked it up and it smells luxurious. The longevity holds up, although the projection is more contained than I expected for the price; but be careful not to be too demanding with something at 200 pesos, all in all it’s not bad at all.
Black Opium gives me nausea even though I love the scent. So I tried the Zara option with success. I love it; it’s quite similar but less potent, so I use it without issue and it suits me perfectly.
Have they reformulated Gardenia? Unlike the others, I didn’t like it at all. I own Black Opium, and although this resembles it, it’s a poor copy. I tried it in-store and it was awful; the worst part is that I had to wash my wrist three times and the smell wouldn’t go away. So if you like it, the fact that it lasts so long is a positive. Black Opium is more feminine and sweet; this smells far too strong and lacks good sense. I preferred Orchid.
Did they reformulate Gardenia? Unlike others, I didn’t like it at all. I have Black Opium and although it resembles it, it’s a poor copy. I tried it yesterday and it was horrible; the worst is that I had to wash my wrist three times and the scent wouldn’t go away. If you like it lasting that long, fine, but Black Opium is more feminine and sweet; this is too strong and makes no sense. I preferred Orchid.
I wanted to buy Black Opium, but first I tried this, which they say is a copy. It smells delicious, sweet as I like it. The best part: the longevity. When it runs out, I’ll definitely go for Black Opium.
It’s a relief to think perfumes will replace the originals. Yes, it certainly resembles it, but I don’t trust those dupes or imitations much. Instead of creating an exquisite fragrance, they end up giving you rose water and synthetic notes. This happened to me with Olympea; it was a disaster. I’ve been searching for Black Opium dupes or similar scents but only found one; the rest are light years away from the original fragrance. Sorry, but that’s the truth.
What a pleasure to think perfumes can replace the original, but I don’t trust those dupes. Instead of exquisite fragrances, you get rose water and synthetic notes. It happened with Olympea, a disaster. I’ve searched for Black Opium alternatives and found only one; the rest are worlds apart. I’m sorry, but it’s the truth.
A man’s opinion: my favourite women’s perfume is Black Opium; I love it when my partner wears it, and this doesn’t fall short. It’s sweet but not cloying; a floral-fruity opening that settles into sweet and coffee notes. Very sexy, with those pheromones that awaken desire instantly. Literally, I get the urge to eat my girlfriend every time I smell her. It lasts and projects for over six hours. Ideal for dates and night outs: sexy, sensual, elegant and sophisticated.
A man’s opinion here. My favourite woman’s perfume is Black Opium; I love it when my partner wears it, and this one doesn’t fall behind. It’s sweet but not cloying, with a floral and fruity opening, and you immediately feel the sweetness and coffee. It’s very sexy; I’d say one of the sexiest out there, giving you a craving to eat it, and I speak from experience; it has those pheromones that awaken desire just by smelling it; literally, I want to eat my girlfriend every time I smell her with this perfume. The best thing is that it lasts and projects a lot, around 6 hours. It’s a sexy, sensual, elegant, sophisticated and refined perfume, ideal for dates and night outs.
I love it; it’s sweet without being cloying. I’m not sure what Black Opium smells like, but this is very pretty and wearable.
It resembles Black Opium, but the difference is clear: the original is much richer. I wouldn’t buy it again and would hesitate to use it.
Very stylish! I like it more than Black Opium because it’s not so overpowering, which is a relief.
Similar, I suppose, but it smells lovely and sticks to my skin brilliantly. It has a hint of Poison Girl, surely from the orange. I loved it and would buy it again: top price and quality.
It’s the Zara Gardenia that comes closest to Black Opium; the later versions sound a bit weak to me. If you liked the original, give this Intense a try. Check out my reviews on @probadoaprobado.
