Black Opium Eau de Toilette (2018) by Yves Saint Laurent is a vanilla oriental fragrance for women. Launched in 2018, this composition was created by Nathalie Lorson, Marie Salamagne, Honorine Blanc and Olivier Cresp. • It’s like a much more subtle and softened version of Black Opium. A blend of coffee, citrus and flowers, all super softened. In fact, I barely notice it and it doesn’t last as long as the original, but it’s a good option for those who like a soft fragrance and not a strong one.

  • danapetalorojo

It adds nothing new; it’s like the Light EDP. You can detect the pear, but it’s not that sensual, juicy pear from the 2015 version… a total miss in my opinion.

  • danapetalorojo

It offers nothing new; it’s like the EDP in light. The pear is detectable, but it’s not the sensual and juicy pear of the 2015 version at all… a total failure in my opinion.

I really liked this version; it seems more ‘wearable’, ideal for casual outings, afternoon dates or nights out with friends. The coffee note EN-CAN-TS me, I always say it and I’ll keep saying it. It’s very comforting. It lasts less, but its price is also lower than the EDP.

This reformulation seems much more citrusy than the previous EDT, yet I still love it.

Winter is here and, while dusting the shelf, I found my EDP untouched for nearly two months. The power went out and I thought: why not give it a go? My goodness! How much it has changed. At first I had another opinion as I’d never tried the EDP or the Intense, but now that I’ve smelled them… my nose has changed. It smells like Poison with Amethyste and definitely like Floral Shock. Does it carry notes of milk and myrrh together? That blend is a damn delight. It starts citrusy and fresh, but then shifts radically to become a Floral Shock scent. I’m hooked. The only Opium it resembles is Floral Shock. I’d say it’s the Eau de Toilette version of this Black Opium flanker, not the classic. Nothing to do with each other. Don’t buy this expecting a Black Opium Toilette version; they aren’t alike in the slightest. Anyway, I’ll stick with my Black Opium obsession, see you.

Winter has arrived and since I bought the EDP I was delighted. One day I set out to clean my shelf and found it… that day is today. Then the lights went out and I thought, why not spray it? Zaaas, what is this? It had been almost two months since I used it but, my goodness, what has happened to it? Perhaps at the start I had another opinion because I hadn’t tried the EDP or the Intense… and now I have… but my goodness, has my nose changed? It smells like Poison with Amethyste and definitely like Floral Shock. Does this bring notes of milk and myrrh together? Because that mixture is a damn delight? At the start it is indeed citrus and fresh, but then it changes radically to become a Floral Shock aroma. I’m hooked. The only Opium it resembles is Floral Shock. I’d say it’s the Eau de Toilette version of this Black Opium flanker, not the classic. Nothing to do with each other. Don’t expect to buy this and smell a toilet version of Black Opium, they don’t resemble each other at all. Anyway, I’ll continue with my obsession with the Black Opiums, see you.

  • I got confused and posted this review on the Black Opium EDT 2015 🤣🤣🤣, I didn’t realise Fragrantica had the review for the 2018 version… I knew it! This definitely has bergamot. And indeed it does, noticeable from start to finish with a touch of patchouli. Here’s my review: This little bottle has seemed like a delicious perfume and less invasive than the original. Its opening has a citrus touch and then blends with a not-too-roasted, soft coffee; I also sense a chocolate smell (not listed in the notes) very in the background alongside the bergamot and patchouli. Then comes the orange blossom and after three hours the wood remains, although the acidity, the unroasted coffee and the chocolate are still felt, with the bergamot always shouting PRESENT accompanied by patchouli. The longevity and trail are moderate, on my skin about 5 to 6 hours. So I’m happy. Excellent aroma!❤️

😪 Nothing like the 2015 version. They took away the delicious blackcurrant and the lovely orange blossom to put citrus on top and fill it with bitter coffee. I’m wearing it, but in the end, there’s something that doesn’t quite fit for me; something that wasn’t an issue with the old one because it was full of little fruits and vanilla; the new glowing version is mostly citrus. I’ll give it more tries or move on to something else. By the way, if anyone knows where to get the old version, please let me know…🖤

  • I absolutely love this flanker: it’s light and easy to wear, keeping the DNA of the original but without those 30 minutes of medicinal smell you had to endure until it settled.
