  Sacred Scarab by Zoologist sparked great curiosity in me; all its concepts sound promising on paper. Here, perfumer Sultan Pasha presents one of his early creations in an alcohol base. The concept revolves around the scarab and ancient Egyptian culture. The premises are good, but the result is, at best, curious. At first, it smells of clay, evoking the scarab’s journey with its dung ball, perhaps due to the base resins, civet, and some aldehydes that give it a waxy touch. This initial phase is very conceptual, strange, and certainly not pleasant. Gradually, that waxy or clay-like sensation, which accompanies the perfume for most of its life, gives way to floral accords and a very marked wine note. If it smells of wine, it must be highlighted that it is achieved both in aroma and on the skin. Finally, in the dry-down phase, the resins and ambered notes emerge, making the perfume simpler, more familiar, and usable. I see it as truly conceptual and worth trying. I am greatly surprised by its composition and aromatic construction, something truly original and unique. What a pity that such a construction feels so difficult for me to wear and far from what I consider a perfume for dressing. Best wishes.
