The Library Collection Opus I by Amouage is a chypre fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2010, the nose behind this composition is Daniel Maurel. The top notes are cardamom, bitter orange and plum; the heart features ylang-ylang, neroli, jasmine, rose and lily of the valley (convallaria); and the base notes consist of incense, Egyptian papyrus, guaiac wood, tonka bean, sandalwood, vetiver and Virginia cedar.

Opus I is intense, special, and characterful, as is typical of the brand. It shares the same flaw as most: low versatility. It’s not intrusive, dark, or smoky like Fate or VII, and while it lasts longer, it remains suited only to very specific, super-formal occasions. These perfumes always evoke very specific places; this one reminds me of an elite conservatoire. I’m far more hooked on it than VII. It’s linear, luminous, and fresh, yet retains that dark, complex, and deep vibe typical of Amouage. I’d use it without hesitation. I recommend you give it a try; it’s a brilliant experience. Sillage and longevity: moderate but with impact.
This perfume is an absolute beast – very rare, but it hooks me. It smells of wood, neroli, and papyrus; it’s hypnotic and I’m sure it won’t bore anyone. It lasts incredibly long, even if you can’t smell it from two metres away. Seriously, it’s my favourite.
