Descripción

Unforgivable by Sean John is an aromatic fougère fragrance for men. Launched in 2006, this composition was created by David Apel, Pierre Negrin, Aurélien Guichard and Caroline Sabas. The top notes unfold with tangerine, green mandarin, Sicilian lemon, grapefruit, bergamot, birch leaves, basil and juniper; the heart reveals lavender, statice and iris; while the base notes settle with rum, cashmere wood, Australian sandalwood, tonka bean and amber. This perfume was awarded the FiFi Award Fragrance of the Year Men's Luxe 2007.

Excellent choice as a daily perfume: fresh, youthful, and interesting. I recommend it for any season and part of the world. On my scale of perfumes for daily use, it’s a 9/10.

  • It smells of green mandarin. My mother gave it to me yesterday and I started using it today; I immediately wanted to write this review. Yesterday, applying it to my wrist, I liked it a bit more but not entirely. Today, putting it on fresh after a shower, it took on a richer, fruitier fixation. Almost all the time I distinguish the green mandarin scent, though after 30 minutes I notice the cashmere wood. It has moderate longevity but unfortunately a very weak trail. The bottle is simple but pretty. I liked the fragrance and would give it an 8/10.

I found it a good but not outstanding fragrance. The citrus is noticeable at first, then soft woods enter and a floral note becomes apparent, with the lavender a bit weak. The note I sensed most was iris. In the base, the rum and amber are soft. I found it an almost unisex aroma; I think if a woman wore it, it could pass as feminine. Unlike others, on me the trail was average for the first two hours and longevity exceeded five hours, though afterwards it sits close to the skin. I recommend trying it before buying, as that feminine touch might put you off. The ingredients feel of good quality.

Last year a great friend gave it to me and said it suited me better than him. I didn’t understand why, but I happily accepted it. In my room, applying it to my wrist, I was dazzled by its intense aroma and started looking forward to the weekend for gatherings. To me, it’s totally seductive; I’ve received many compliments, from women and men alike. Now I understand my friend, as being married it didn’t please his wife, but being single it makes sense. I question whether the designer aimed for a seductive scent, as it’s for over 30s while his clothing is youthful. But it’s incredibly charming. The opening is an intense, slightly bitter citrus of great quality. Then it develops into a trail of fine woods like mahogany, sandalwood, or cedar, adding mystery and sophistication. As it settles, it takes a base of bitter orange and alcohol that makes you feel worldly, confident enough to start intellectual conversations, whether as a conqueror or in business. Elegant, masculine, warm, intoxicating, seductive, like a fine tobacco pipe. The trail and longevity are pleasing. Undoubtedly special for romantic nights or dates to woo the woman of your choice in a sophisticated restaurant, outdoors with candles and champagne, waiting to show her the ring. Its dark, serious bottle denotes that seductive proposal, perfect for thanking someone for an unforgettable night.

  • This is my first review on this site, and it was very helpful in choosing several fragrances. I just bought it abroad as I don’t think it’s available here in Argentina. It seems ideal for a date or a special event; my girlfriend loves it every time I wear it and enjoys the scent. It has a floral touch but a very masculine feel, I think the rum note gives it that extra masculinity. It’s a great fragrance at a good price, lasting six to eight hours, and I enjoy wearing it in bursts all the time. If you have the chance to try it, I recommend it; if you buy it blind, you won’t regret it.

I’m sure it won the FiFi Award 2007 for that exquisite, citrusy yet sweet-floral scent, but be warned: don’t expect much in terms of trail and longevity. It lasts about four hours with a very soft sillage. The good news is it’s reasonably priced; reapplying every four or six hours is welcome and enjoyable. Although its name is ‘Unforgivable’, I will forgive its lethargic performance solely for that wonderful aroma throughout its entire development.

  • Very good fragrance, a note of orange/mandarin among my favourites, very well recreated, with the right balance where it doesn’t feel too synthetic (like Boss in Motion or Hugo Dark Blue) nor too natural (which isn’t very pleasant either, smelling as if you just peeled and ate an orange). Between the opening and the heart, there’s a kind of ‘effervescence’ or ‘bubbling’, as if it were a sparkling beverage note like champagne rather than the rum it declares. When the bubbling subsides, it transforms into a classic neroli cologne scent (4711, JM Farina) but enhanced and modernised. On me, the projection is very good for several hours and longevity is excellent, lasting all day. Unfortunately, it stopped being sold here in Argentina several years ago, but in the USA it’s sold at a price almost given away, so whenever a trip arises, it’s the opportunity to restock in large quantities.

  • Very good fragrance, with a note of orange/tangerine among my favourites, very well recreated and with the right balance: it doesn’t smell synthetic like a Boss in Motion or Hugo Dark Blue, nor too natural as if you’d just peeled a fruit. Between the opening and the heart, there’s a kind of effervescence or fizz, like a champagne note instead of the rum it says. When the fizz settles, it becomes a classic neroli cologne (like 4711 or JM Farina) but enhanced and modernised. On me, the projection is very good for several hours and the longevity is excellent; it lasts all day. Unfortunately, it stopped selling in Argentina years ago, but in the USA it’s sold at almost giveaway prices, so every time I travel it’s the opportunity to restock in large quantities.

  • Not worth it… you only enjoy the fragrance for an instant, then after 10, 15, or 20 minutes, there’s nothing left but a skin scent. It’s a total rip-off; I don’t know if it was always like this, but it’s disgusting in terms of longevity and projection; watch your money.

  • I bought it for about $30, and it lasted only three months because my 12-year-old son used it too, and my wife said it smelled lovely every time we wore it. When I wanted to buy it again, the price had gone up. It resembles Bleu de Chanel slightly at the start, with this one being more floral, but they are very similar in the citrus notes. I haven’t tried the Millesime Imperial, but if it smells like Unforgivable, it must be very good. Ideal for daytime and summer.

  • Not worth it… you only enjoy it for an instant, and after 10, 15, or 20 minutes, you smell nothing. It’s a total rip-off. The longevity and projection are dreadful. Watch your money.

  • Leonardo da Vincho

I couldn’t remember I had it. While sorting through the bottles, I found it at the back of the darkest shelf in my wardrobe, covered with a fine layer of dust. It was my ex’s last gift, bought in Naples (Florida, USA) in 2012. She loved it; I found it common and only used it for work, where I received plenty of compliments, all from women. I thought after so many years it might be in bad condition, but it wasn’t; just under half a bottle in impeccable condition, I’d even say I like it more now than six years ago. After breaking up, I left it there until today. It has a citrus opening; in my case, I perceive more orange than mandarin, with a soft sweetness and discreetly alcoholic note. Upon drying, very subtle and high-quality floral notes appear, nothing to envy from Dior, Chanel, or Cartier, which I find finer. I don’t perceive the wood; the citrus, lavender, and rum (which isn’t intrusive as in Bentley for Men) hide it, or my sense of smell lacks the necessary sensitivity. Duration is very good for dry skin and a citrus fragrance, four hours or more; I still perceive it close to the skin on my forearm (almost six hours). Projection: my daughter isn’t a good parameter, but she sensed it with a moderate trail for two hours. I don’t know if it’s still sold in the USA or Europe; I never saw it in Argentina. Although it was a gift and was nearing $30 back then, I think it’s a good price for this quality. I also don’t know if it has been reformulated; I only hope this almost unknown brand hasn’t fallen into that error.

  • Leonardo da Vincho

I realised last night that my bottle is identical to Fragrántica’s but different from the one in the advertisements. After researching, I found that Sean John went to Jacavi Beauty Group with a redesign and reformulation. If you catch a batch before 2017 with the large typography at the bottom, it’s a total success for temperate climates; the new bottle seems to perform less, but it’s worth trying to confirm.

  • Leonardo da Vincho

I found it while tidying the wardrobe, hidden in the dark, cool back, covered in dust. It was my ex’s last gift, bought in Naples in 2012. She loved it, while I thought it was common and only used it for work, where I received many compliments from women. I thought after years it might have gone off, but it’s impeccable, almost half a bottle, and now I like it more than I did six years ago. It opens citrusy; I notice more orange than tangerine, with a soft, slightly boozy sweetness. When it dries down, you notice subtle, high-quality floral notes, nothing to envy from Dior or Chanel; it seems finer. I don’t notice the wood; the citrus, lavender, and rum (less intrusive than in Bentley) hide it, or my nose doesn’t catch those notes. Good longevity for dry skin, four hours or more; I can still smell it on my forearm after nearly six hours. Projection: my daughter noticed a moderate trail for two hours. I don’t know if it’s still sold; I never saw it in Argentina. It cost about $30 back then, a very good price for the quality. I hope it hasn’t been reformulated and that this brand hasn’t made that mistake.

  • I’ve just finished this fragrance, and the truth is it’s nothing special. I was seduced by several comments and the fact that in 2007 it was awarded as one of the best, but it’s not bad, nor is it a perfume for special occasions or one to keep in favourites. It has a citrus and fresh aroma but lasts only a few hours; it’s one of those perfumes you can use daily so you don’t run out of your favourites.

  • I’ve just finished it, and honestly, it’s nothing special; I let myself be swayed by the comments and the 2007 award. It’s not bad, but it’s not for special occasions or among my favourites. It smells citrusy and fresh, but it lasts only a few hours. It’s one of those perfumes for everyday use so you don’t wear out your favourites.

  • I first bought it in Buenos Aires in 2007; the saleswoman recommended it because I was looking for something original, and I loved it instantly. It smells of orange, tangerine, and spices, very delicious. It has brought me many compliments, and someone even gifted it to me again, making me happy to use it once more. Later, it was discontinued in Chile; I searched high and low and finally found it in a free trade zone in Punta Arenas. Until about a year ago (2019-2020), it still wasn’t available in Chile. I think it’s one of my favourites, alongside the already discontinued Emporio Armani City Glam, which never returned. What a shame, because it was exceptional.

Sean John is Sean Combs’ line, the Puff Daddy. For a celebrity fragrance, it’s quite good; I don’t know the original, but I think it was reformulated. The citrus and fruity notes come out fresh, mixed with the sweetness of tonka and florals. Still, it smells fresh from start to finish, with that modern urban style, and ends up soft and woody. The development is fairly linear, just adding a slightly sweeter touch over time as the base notes increase. That light, sensual sweetness is the absolute protagonist and pairs very well with the wood, ideal for spring and summer. The performance isn’t as bad as I thought compared to others, but it’s not dazzling either; it’s noticeable for about two hours and then fades. If the pre-2017 version performs better as others say, it’s worth it for its personality and that contemporary touch which is hard to find nowadays.

  • It starts with grapefruit and lime, then moves to iris and lavender which linger, and finally rum with a very soft amber, all within five minutes, with almost no evolution. It was a blind purchase based on good reviews, and I think I had my expectations too high. It doesn’t smell as synthetic and lasts longer than others, but it’s just not my taste. I recommend trying it before buying.

What a strange thing! The opening is too chaotic and I dislike it greatly, although it improves slightly when dried, it still doesn’t please me. It smells very ‘X’; once that strange, astringent opening passes, it becomes a skin scent. The truth is, its price is hardly economical; I bought it for $60 in Mexico along with gel and aftershave. Not recommended at all for scent, performance, or price. For the same cost, you can find better options. P.S.: This is a very personal opinion; I have never received a compliment wearing this fragrance, but everyone should try it for themselves.

What a strange thing! The opening is a chaotic mess that doesn’t suit me at all; it improves slightly when it dries down, but still doesn’t convince me. It smells very ‘X’. After that peculiar, astringent opening, it becomes a skin scent, and honestly, the price isn’t economical at all. I bought it for $60 in Mexico, and it came with gel and aftershave. Not recommended at all, neither for the scent, the longevity, nor the price; there are better options for that cost. PS: This is my personal opinion. I’ve never received a compliment with this smell, but everyone should try it to their own taste.

  • Freshness to the Nth power! If you live in hot and humid climates, this option is unbeatable, especially at the price of $35. We have a very good evolution: the construction of notes with all the citrus plus sandalwood is excellent. Performance with 15 or 20 sprays isn’t bad, as it’s a clean, fresh, and green scent. Highly recommended, as what you can lose here is negligible. I insist, if you have doubts or issues with performance, 15-20 sprays are fabulous. Good luck with the fragrance and enjoy it.

  • A very pleasant fragrance; I haven’t dared to buy it yet, but I prefer to evaluate it myself; I’ve had bad experiences with YouTubers before, they always say it’s great and the result is disastrous, or they give bad recommendations. It’s worth trying it yourself and drawing conclusions. I only had a sample a long time ago and I liked it a lot; I hope I get lucky and it hasn’t been reformulated (something almost impossible).

  • Pablo Angel

I met this scent at a sample in 2008 and I loved it too much. When I wanted to buy it, it wasn’t sold in Chile and I searched for it for a long time until I caught it on a local website last year and bought it instantly. Very rich fragrance and good longevity, aromatic, fruity, and sweet-spaced. Perhaps it doesn’t have a great trail, but it feels like a halo that envelops you. Greetings from Chile.

  • Gentil vagabond

Sean John always releases interesting fragrances; pity the weak projection and longevity; Unforgivable is no exception, it’s a great fragrance without lasting power.

  • Gentil vagabond

Sean John always produces interesting fragrances, but Unforgivable is no exception: a great scent that suffers from poor projection and longevity.

  • Jjesus MC 77

This fragrance is a gem… I bought it years ago when it first launched and, like many others, had it hidden in my drawer. Now that I smell it again… well, it’s a delicious scent, very unique; I think it even matured in the bottle. I feel it with more power. Thank goodness I kept it.

  • Delicious citrus notes, juicy mandarin giving a very pleasant and unique smell, ideal for summer. The bad thing is that it doesn’t last long.

  • The scent smells good, perhaps a bit more citrusy than my taste, but nothing bad. I expected it to last a little longer. I own Zara fragrances and comparing them, the longevity and trail of Unforgivable aren’t better. Would I buy it again? I doubt it. I’d opt for something different; even if it’s more expensive, it lasts longer and lets you feel its presence.

  • It was the first perfume I bought with my own money and I’m still using it 20 years later; I never get tired of it. I love the perfect balance between woods and citrus; it has an unparalleled presence. To this day, I haven’t found anything that equals or mimics this scent. I’ve heard that Club de Nuit Milestone and Creed Aventus share DNA; I’ll test if I like it. This smell became my identity, giving me a guide and a style. I’ve already bought three bottles and now they’re hard to find, but it was my entry into the world of fragrances.

  • I bought it blindly last year after a YouTuber recommended it and I loved it: soft and rich. Yes, the mandarin, orange, lavender, and sandalwood are noticeable; perfect for a signature scent. But its Achilles’ heel is longevity: it projects well for the first hour (with about 5 sprays) and then stays in your personal bubble; only those right next to you can smell it. Perhaps it lasts longer with more quantity. In conclusion: a rich but discreet scent; I wouldn’t buy it again. By the way, people say it shares the same DNA as Club de Nuit Milestone; I’d like to try it, as that house has better fixation, maybe in the future.

  • Unforgivable by Sean John: Forget comparisons to Creed or Armaf; while they share notes, the experience is entirely different. What matters are the sensations: it’s a visual magnet, like a Hollywood star dominating the dancefloor. It generates instant allure and fascination, the kind of scent that turns a ‘who are you?’ into a ‘hello, you look so handsome’. It conveys cleanliness and confidence without being ostentatious. It’s a must for any occasion, with a perfect evolution. The only flaw is that it requires reapplication; it smells like a sports fragrance lacking potency. But given the price, it doesn’t matter. Ideal for those who wish to compete. Scent: 10. Projection: moderate (good for 1 hour, then fades). Longevity: 5 hours. Recommended.

  • Unforgivable by Sean John: Forget the comparisons with Creed or Armaf; while they share DNA, they vibrate differently. What matters is the impact: it’s a bombshell that catches you immediately. It’s like seeing a movie star on the red carpet; first it suggests, then it fascinates. It’s the difference between a ‘who are you?’ and a ‘hello, you look so handsome’. It projects an image of a clean, confident, and attractive man without being showy. It’s a must if you’re looking for a scent that represents you anywhere. Everything flows well: opening, development, and dry-down. Performance is its only flaw; it needs constant reapplication, like a sports car lacking power. But for the price, it doesn’t matter. For those who want to compete, it’s a great option. Scent: 10. Projection: moderate (good for 1 hour, then drops). Longevity: 5 hours. Recommended.
