I can’t distinguish the individual notes because they blend so well. It’s the definition of clean, soft, and pure elegance. It’s hard to imagine anyone disliking it; among all the fragrances I’ve tried, it’s the best blind buy. You can gift it to any man and he’ll surely love it; there’s no negative point to the scent. Yes, it’s masculine; I don’t feel any unisex traits. It works perfectly in extreme heat or intense cold, for casual or formal occasions, is suitable for daily wear, and has no age limit. It fits any man or situation, making it super versatile. My only gripe is that it doesn’t last or project much. But that subtlety adds to its versatility because it’s easy to over-spray, especially given its clean air. In my case, I’m looking for something more long-lasting with better projection, so I’d rate it slightly lower; but if that doesn’t bother you, it’s a 9.8/10. A clean, soft, elegant, and super versatile perfume.

L’Homme is an icon from two decades ago. I’ll keep this brief as I don’t think there’s anything new to say. It’s spiced ginger, citrus, with a touch of sweet tonka bean. Very linear, but that’s not a problem; it’s a pleasant scent that accompanies you throughout the day (or the few hours you wear it). It’s elegant, clean, and revitalising, ideal for daily use. My issue is that I sense a slightly dated nuance; I can’t quite explain it, but it fits a 50-year-old gentleman in a white shirt in the office perfectly. Also, the longevity is about three hours on a good day; it seems very reformulated. Pleasant scent, but it’s not for me.

YSL L’Homme: ‘Elegance whispers’. I know this fragrance like the back of my hand; it was my student perfume and the first branded bottle I bought. It conveys a discreet class that doesn’t impose itself. Over time, I realised not all perfumes need to shout. L’Homme doesn’t seek the spotlight; it accompanies you, blends with you, and makes you look neater and more refined without effort, and yes, it earns many compliments. Clean, elegant, and light. It’s not powdery or iris-heavy, which I don’t like. It’s a different kind of cleanliness, like fine soap or freshly ironed clothes. The blend of bergamot, ginger, and light wood creates a soft, impeccable scent, with that touch of a man who cares about details without seeming pretentious. Perfect for young people who want to smell good without falling into clichés. You don’t need to go for heavy ambroxan scents like Sauvage or Invictus; L’Homme is ideal for class, work, flights, or a Sunday at home. Also great for mature men seeking elegance without smelling ‘old’. It’s the right balance between simplicity and distinction. Longevity and projection are moderate and light, but it works wonderfully indoors. It doesn’t invade; it accompanies. Rating: 9.5/10, I’d like it to last a bit longer.

YSL L’Homme has been one of my most used perfumes for years for dinners with friends and parties. It has always worked wonderfully for me, and I can say that girls love it. It’s not especially complex, but it has that magic of scents that everyone likes, both the wearer and those who smell it. I bought it in 2011 and still have a bit of the original bottle; every time I smell it, that citrusy and fresh sensation overwhelms me, transporting me back to those good moments. Over the years, tastes have evolved towards more mature fragrances, but L’Homme will always be that fresh, elegant classic with good vibes that is always handy. Perfect for everyday life, informal dinners, or gatherings where you want to smell good without complications.

  5. I tried it in a store before and fell in love at once. I just bought it and smelled it again; it’s incredible. The citrus notes are delicious. I love it so much that I think it could be one of my favourites. I have many perfumes, but I’ll keep trying it and will share an update in a few weeks.

This is indeed the original L’Homme as I tested the Y EDP and the now-discontinued Bleu Electrique. But this L’Homme is very citrusy and oriental; you can note the spice and tonka bean, but this L’Homme is rich.

L’Homme is a clean, functional staple: modern, neat, comfortable to wear… especially recommended if you like discreet scents and want to play it safe. Ideal for dates, the office, or safe usage. However, if you expect a perfume with personality or strong presence, its performance and profile will disappoint you. In terms of value for money, it may be worth it if you find it at a good price and don’t mind reapplying.

After keeping it for six months and trying it again, I perceive it better than the first spray and it evolves well. That said, longevity and sillage are MEDIOCRE; close to the skin, it’s quite pleasant. For the price, I don’t feel it’s worth it.

I switched from Boss Bottled Infinite to this, as my experience with Boss was terrible and the idea was a work perfume, so I thought it was a good idea to try this classic. At first, the continuity between this and Nuit de L’Homme is evident. I do think it has a slightly dated profile, but I also think it depends on the occasion. I use it exclusively for going to a boring job where I can dress however I like (for a good job I go in Prada), but it’s still work, and the idea is to give an impression of someone serious and neat; it has its elegance; for that objective, it seems good to me but nothing more. It’s not worth using in winter, but in autumn, spring, and even summer I use it and it’s never overwhelming, even with that medium-creamy base, which I assume is due to the tonka bean. It’s also true that the performance is mediocre in both longevity and projection, but for what I use it for, I’m not ashamed to put on more sprays; reapplying midday could even be a solution. With all that said, I don’t think it’s a bad perfume; generally, people find it delicious and I’ve received compliments. I wouldn’t keep it again, but it fulfils its role and I’ve developed a certain affection for it.

Spiced ginger scent with a touch of talcum powder. Not sure if everyone will like it; it almost reminds me of perfumes from the past.

  11. L’Homme by YSL smells fantastic and is versatile, perfect for spring and autumn. It starts fresh with ginger and citrus, then warms up with spices, tonka bean, and cedar. While it sounds a bit old-fashioned, it is subtle and ideal for everyday wear without being overpowering. It shines in temperate climates but doesn’t perform as well in extreme heat. Longevity: 7/10, Sillage: 5/10, Scent: 8/10.

A good option for daily wear. It may not be surprising, but it does its job well; I would definitely recommend it.

  13. Casares85

A fragrance that doesn’t surprise. It smells good once it settles on the skin with its woody notes, but it is better suited for personal use. The initial citrus notes are very soft. Longevity is high on my skin. A good option for everyone and for daily wear. Simple, yet rich.

  14. I first tried this over ten years ago and it was crazy; I made it my go-to evening scent. At twenty, people told me it smelled lovely but very mature, while everyone else was wearing 1 Million or 212. I wore it daily until the mid-2010s. I loved that blend of citrus, sweetness, and spice, plus it lasted longer and projected much more back then. Over time, as I learned more about fragrances, it started to seem boring, and the trail dropped significantly. Today, I have an almost empty bottle in my wardrobe that I rarely use; I think if I smelled it now, I wouldn’t have bought it.

  15. Smells excellent and is very masculine. The opening is strong with well-blended citrus, making it ideal as a daily scent. Spices and woods round it off beautifully, and everyone will like it. I recommend it only for intermediate seasons and casual or semi-formal occasions. Longevity and sillage fall short: at best six hours with a decent one-hour projection. Rating: 8.3/10.

L’Homme by YSL is, as everyone knows, ginger and bergamot at the start, spices and violet in the middle, and tonka bean with cedar at the end. Ideal for formal, elegant men. It’s a good fragrance, but I wouldn’t buy it again because the price isn’t worth it; I bought a tester which was cheaper, plus the longevity is very poor, not reaching two hours. For that price, there are many better-performing options, so in my opinion, it’s not worth it.

  17. Smells like ‘Yayo’. It’s decent, pleasant, slightly sweet and herbal, reminding me of a bakery ingredient. It doesn’t last at all. It’s elegant but not particularly serious; more suited to an older gentleman. Now I find it very generic.

I tried it in a duty-free shop, and this is my take. The good thing is the scent: I liked it at first and loved it once it dried down. It smells very masculine, like a serious man who doesn’t mind formality. It has no age limit but shows maturity. I would definitely use it as a daily scent. The bad thing is the longevity: once it dried down on my hand, I washed it off, and even pressing my nose against it, I couldn’t detect any trace.

It starts with a fresh hit of citrus and ginger… very tasty and the quality is noticeable. BUT! I wouldn’t buy it again. Compared to the price you pay and how little it lasts, it’s terrible, shameful. An hour and the charm is gone… I felt cheated by YSL. There are Arab perfumes that are ten times better and of niche quality.

  20. Absolutely love it, I’ve tried it several times and this might well be the last. The scent is gorgeous; that ginger and citrus blend could easily become my signature. The major drawback is the longevity, which ranges from weak to moderate, and the projection is virtually non-existent; after a short while, you’d need to be a bloodhound to smell it. It’s a pity, because being discreet is one thing (and perfectly acceptable), but this is more for ninjas…

  21. What a rich aroma, but what a shame it lasts so short a time. Lately, I’ve noticed designer fragancies are declining more and more; it’s a pity they sell such expensive perfumes with such mediocre performance. It’s a very rich scent but it vanishes completely within an hour of application; simply not worth it.

  22. Smells good, smells very good. The issue everyone already knows is the performance. It’s a perfectly acceptable office perfume that definitely doesn’t offend anyone. Occasionally, if you’re generous with the sprays, you might get a compliment. I absolutely love the scent; it’s always been my weakness and will remain so.

  23. A truly special gift from my mother, perhaps the most expensive thing she’s ever given me. It’s quite elegant, serious yet fresh, and I don’t think anyone would hate this fragrance. I believe it’s better suited for formal or semi-formal events, as it doesn’t smell like deodorant or straight out of the shower. I’ve worn it for family commitments, church (a couple of funerals, lol), and a night out, but I think it shines more during the day or for work.

A fragrance with a nice top note, neat, clean and elegant. However, it is not at all long-lasting. With just four sprays, the projection fades during use, so it goes unnoticed. It would be much better to carry a small atomiser with some of the fragrance to reapply every hour. Considering the price, there are better options available on the market, especially regarding projection and longevity. For this reason, it’s not a fragrance I would use again.

Ugh. There’s controversy here; it’s a very subtle fragrance, giving the impression that YSL and Chanel don’t want to be extravagant with their scents; it’s created for an elegant, neat man in a white shirt. It emulates simplicity, which goes hand in hand with elegance. The scent is very pleasant but lacks projection and longevity. The opening reminds me of Hugo Boss fragrances, but it changes quickly to take on a very refined aroma. It would be good to carry a small atomiser in your jacket and spray it every one or two hours so it’s noticed. Good heavens, the way it smells versus how little it lasts and projects for the PvP it has.

Its olfactive profile begins with fresh, citrusy and spicy notes thanks to the blend of ginger, bergamot and lemon. Immediately after, the spicy heart notes appear, offering soft nuances of white pepper, basil and violet leaves. Finally, it concludes with tonka bean, Tahitian vetiver and cedar, woody notes that give it masculinity and produce a pleasant sensation. These aromas create a procession of admired scents and heart notes. Personally, I enjoyed La Nuit de l’Homme by YSL more.

If I were to define this fragrance, it would be like lemon-flavour cotton candy: fresh, pleasant, soft. Longevity is about 5-6 hours (my batch is old), and it lasts longer on clothes. Innocent, harmless, unpretentious, very easy to wear, excellent for everyday life or casual outings, excellent for meeting the mother-in-law.

A fragrance that was overshadowed by its sister, La Nuit De L’Homme. A sober aroma, so sober you might make the mistake of putting it aside, and I think it’s one of those perfumes you should give a chance. That said… Scent: Good, Longevity: 5 hours, Projection: 2 hours, Sillage: Soft, Versatility: Temperate and warm climates during the day. Uses: From casual to semi-formal. It’s not a fragrance that stands out in any way, potentially going unnoticed, and while that might seem crazy, it could be its strength; if the ideal occasion arises (which are very few), that’s where its magic comes out. I see it for sober situations like a medical or banking appointment, a work lunch, or any scenario where you don’t need to stand out much and simply smell good. I have this perfume as a gift and I like it, though I wouldn’t repurchase it for my collection.
