Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme Ultime is a woody musky floral fragrance for men. Launched in 2016, this composition was created by Anne Flipo, Dominique Ropion and Juliette Karagueuzoglou. The top notes unfold with ginger, grapefruit, cardamom and bergamot; the heart reveals rose, sage, geranium and apple; while the base notes settle on cedar, vetiver and cashmere wood.

Very long-lasting and versatile, ideal for the office. It smells of rose, but a masculine, delicate rose that will surely get you compliments. The only flaw is that it’s too linear; from the moment you apply it, it smells the same all day. In less than a week, you’ll get bored and only wear it for others to enjoy. I bought 200ml on offer, it’s half gone, and I already want to throw it away—not because it’s bad, but because of the boredom caused by how linear it is.
A delightful surprise! It’s a completely different, well-crafted fresh aromatic, unlike some that seem to lack olfactory expertise or affection. I’m not saying this due to diverse opinions, but because of opportunists who only want to grab attention. It’s a shame they distort the idea of fragrances, but it’s worth trying. In my case, I loved it. It must be the rose and ginger blend; spectacular. At first, it seems to have no projection, but after 40 minutes, no one can get the scent out of your nose; it gives you life. Scent: 8.5 (9 for originality), Longevity: 8.5, Projection: 8, Versatility: 8.5.
It’s one of those perfumes that puts you in a good mood. It has a well-balanced blend of rose and ginger that feels unisex at first, then the woody notes emerge (subtle yet enduring cedar). Afterwards, its masculine inclination becomes apparent. The opening is explosive and fresh, while the heart and base notes are creamy: a crushed rose with ginger and cedar. I bought it blind and it was a pleasant surprise. Ideal for warm climates, it goes well with a shirt and is casual for spring, autumn, and summer.
My first review of YSL L’Homme Ultime. It’s a beautiful fragrance that opens with ginger and cardamono, typical of the line. I imagine a spring day in a field of roses with the sun and a gentle breeze. It’s sublime, beautiful, elegant, sexy, refined, magnetic, and full of light. Dignified for a leader. If La Nuit is sensual for the night, this is it for the day.
A very good scent, luminous and vibrant at the start. It’s a great starting point for anyone seeking a discreet, uncomplicated rose. Just as Declaration d’un Soir by Cartier takes you on a romantic walk and Black Aoud to a nocturnal rose, Ultime settles in a daytime territory: extroverted and optimistic. I love scents that lift the mood (the ginger must play a big part). Some find it linear, but that simplicity is its strength and its versatility. It wouldn’t clash almost anywhere except at very formal events or in cold weather. It’s charming; I recommend buying it before prices rise. I imagine a watercolour with warm tones, a simple yet beautiful landscape. They’ve nailed this flanker destined to disappear; it’s a pity something so well-made isn’t profitable.
I picked it up at a bargain price after some searching. I have a theory: discontinued fragrances aren’t thrown away; other brands buy them and relaunch them under a different name. This happened with YSL Ultime and Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb, which smell identical to my nose. You just have to keep looking until you find them.
One of my favourites: masculine, not youthful, with strong projection and longevity.
What a gem! It’s enchanting, fresh, elegant, and sparkling. It features a very masculinised rose blended with ginger and cedar. Seriously, it’s brilliant. Ideal for spring and summer, it’s superior to everything else. Interestingly, it projects strongly but sometimes seems to vanish only to return as if you’d just reapplied it. Scent: 9, Projection: 8, Longevity: 8.5, Versatility: 8.
CHARMING, SAFE PURCHASE. It smells clean and lasts a long time. It’s ideal to wear with a white shirt at work; it projects an image of being harmless and pleasant. Perfect for negotiations, seduction, or meetings.
If you like this fragrance, it is time to get it as it is in the process of being discontinued; afterwards, it will be very difficult to find, obviously the price will rise.
Wow, what a shame they’ve discontinued it! It’s the crown jewel of the L’Homme line, outperforming the original by a country mile. While it’s pure freshness, it possesses a maturity that makes it versatile year-round, perfect as a signature scent. It works brilliantly for work, night, or day, formal or casual. The EDP lasts 6-7 hours on my skin with good initial projection. It’s an absolute must-have while prices remain reasonable; I’ve heard the new Azzaro Ginger Lover might be similar, so I’ll give it a try. Rating: 9/10.
A sexy, seductive, and fresh fragrance, a real wonder, it has fantastic longevity for something fresh and projects with elegance, the best L’Homme flanker.
In short, this is the scent of the happy copy of Eden.
My bottle is from 2017; I don’t know if they reformulated it or if they are going to leave it as they say in other places. If so, try it or blind test it. The perfume is charming, elegant, fresh, vibrant, magnetic, and super versatile. I see it for any age; at 24, I have received positive comments since I started wearing it. As I read below, ‘the scent is very long-lasting but sometimes gives the impression that it has stopped being smelled and then returns as if you just applied it’, I feel the same with L’Homme Ultime; I notice it at times, but people around me smell it constantly. I would say it easily lasts 6 hours, projecting a lot in the first 2. I agree in part that it is linear, 70% true, but for me, it is not a problem, considering that in my opinion, one of the best designer fragrances is Dior Homme Cologne (its scent does not change over the 6 hours I smell it on my skin, but it is so good that I don’t want it to). It has a certain sweetness (possibly the blend of sage and apple, which I know very well from YSL Y EDP), but in the perfect quantity, never annoying. Another very important point is that it stands apart from other current proposals and achieves this very well. I haven’t smelled the scent on another person yet, nor something similar, and people have asked me what it is. It is a perfume I have enjoyed immensely and has lasted the same; with 3 sprays, it is more than enough from my perspective. I would definitely buy another bottle; the problem is that where I live, I haven’t been able to find it, so I only have to make it last as long as possible.
What can one say, a scent that invades the whole room if you overdo it; three sprays are enough, and four if you go outside. Very rich and unique. The best flanker.
From the YSL L’Homme saga, for me the queen is L’Homme Ultime. A madness of a perfume: a sharp, spicy citrus opening due to the cardamom and ginger, then a masculine rose emerges giving it a formal and sexy air. All that mixes with woods that make it super attractive and seductive. The longevity is quite good for YSL, lasting me around 8 hours and projecting well for the first 2-3. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY DISCONTINUED IT. For me, it is the best in the L’Homme line.
I love this perfume. I don’t know where the rumour came from that it is discontinued; at least in Mexico, I find it in several stores, and its price hovers around $125.
It was love at first sniff, what a beautiful fragrance! Thanks to that decant that fell from the sky, I got to know it, and now I adore it.
I searched for months and called over 30 perfumeries until I found what might be the last bottle in Spain of this discontinued fragrance. It’s a batch from 11/2016 in perfect condition. It was my favourite perfume in 2017/2018 until yesterday afternoon when I finally got it again. Although it is expensive (I paid around $115 for 100ml), every millilitre is worth it. At first, it smells of slightly sharp ginger, but once it settles, it becomes something elegant and well-constructed. That blend of spices, cardamom, a masculine rose, and quality citrus makes people look at you as you pass, and you enjoy it too. It lasts more than a day on clothes without staining and around 9 hours on skin, although the projection hovers around 3 hours. It is ideal for a white shirt and a fine suit, like Cartier’s Declaration d’Un Soir, but this fragrance suits lace-up shoes, beige trousers, and a sky-blue or pastel shirt better. It reminds me 80% of the classic Azzaro Wanted (not the Night version) and 20% of Declaration, but it is more elegant. Although they say it is woody, it is more spicy-floral, modern, and subtly sweet. If you are looking for dark tobacco or rum notes, it is not for you, but for a refined and cultured man, it is a gem. The persistence deserves a prize. Best regards.
Discontinued? Well, I’ve got it on my radar, hehe. I think I tried it years ago without giving it much importance, but I recently received a decant and it has surprised me. It seems to be one of the best flankers in the saga, alongside L’Homme Libre EDT. In my opinion, it’s better than its mother. Yes, you can detect the DNA of the original fragrance, as it should, but it has its own notes that give it personality and shine. With 1 or 2 sprays, tested over two days, the longevity is significant (5-6 hours). To my nose, it has much better performance than the mother.
What a sensual and captivating fragrance! My partner had a decant tucked away in his drawer, gifted years ago. As I knew nothing of it, I asked him to try it, and I was absolutely stunned. That citrus opening with a very prominent ginger and cardamomo was a shock of freshness and cleanliness; then it opened into a masculine floral phase with a subtle cedar base that provided the woody notes for a perfect dry-down. I imagine this scent on an elegant, interesting, cultured, and intelligent man, which is why it is so incredibly sexy. I couldn’t stop sniffing my boyfriend all the time, haha. On his skin, it had good longevity, and he mentioned that at first, it reminded him slightly of Drakkar Noir, but it evolved completely afterwards. I can’t agree with him as I’ve never tried that fragrance. Unfortunately, we’ve grown tired of searching for L’Homme Ultime in the big perfumeries in Buenos Aires and still haven’t found it, but we will certainly keep an eye out because we loved it, and personally, it left me enamoured.
I bought a batch from 2018. Six sprays last more than 8 hours projecting and on clothes for weeks. It’s very rich, clean, versatile and pleasant. It leaves a great trail and women quite like it.
Very similar to Toy Boy. I wouldn’t buy it again unless it was to resell. I had the first formula and the performance was average.
It bears no resemblance to Toy Boy in the slightest. It’s not very long-lasting, I quite like it, but I don’t think it’s worth paying what they ask nowadays when there is Azzaro Ginger Lover.
I found it in September 2021 at the Duty Free in Lima. I was looking for something new and the seller showed me several things, until my gaze centred on the YSL stand and I saw Ultime. I thought it wouldn’t reach my country, but upon trying it in my hand, *paafff*, an exquisite aroma. I bought it without a doubt for $149 and it was worth it; it lingered for hours from my hand. Could it be my arm that smells so good? Yes, gentlemen, it was YSL Ultime. If you see it, do not hesitate to buy it; it is a masterpiece.
A great fragrance from YSL, my favourite of the brand and number one in the L’Homme series. I would describe it as beautiful, elegant, sexy, sensual, captivating, fresh and engaging. I bought a 60 ml bottle for elegant occasions, in spring when the day is beautiful and the sun is shining. It’s in my top favourites of the collection.
I had reviewed it in April with a decant and bought the bottle in May 2021. I received a batch from March 2018 for $70. It smells very good and bears no resemblance to Moschino Toy Boy. I’m wearing it today, but I think it shines more in summer climates with heat. Next week I’ll wear it several times to see how it evolves.
Sophistication. Finally, I got to try it and it is extremely pleasant. I had doubts about the rose note, which can sometimes be very intense, but on my skin it feels soft and slightly powdery, with the ginger adding its warmth. It’s versatile, ideal for a spring day. The longevity is very good for the L’Homme line; on skin it lasts 7 or 8 hours with a trail and noticeable projection for 3 hours. Scent: 9, Longevity: 8, Trail: 8, Projection: 7, Versatility: 8. Totally recommended if you can get it at a good price.
I want to share my experience: I made this purchase blindly based on reviews, but I was let down. The scent is too synthetic, and close to the skin, after two hours, only a faint trace of rose remains. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Here’s the deal: I’m 28 with a modest collection. I was looking for something for formal events and work when a friend introduced me to this gem; I absolutely loved it. Its citrus notes, roses, and a woody touch give it a fantastic air. It looks super elegant and charming; people have complimented me many times. It projects only about 1 to 1.5 metres, which makes it ideal for any occasion where you want to project an image of formality and sophistication, of someone who knows what they want. Unfortunately, it’s discontinued, but if you can get your hands on it, go for it, by the way, nothing like Moschino.
Excellent, it works wonderfully on my skin and is truly adorable. A rose with ginger, cardamom, and citrus that is a must for those who like the original and the Nuit… especially knowing it is being discontinued.
I bought it in a free shop in 2016, just before my first trip to Asia. It was a success both the trip and the fragrance. It is fresh, masculine, versatile, modern, and attention-grabbing. In fact, I met a Filipino woman there with whom I spent days and nights, and she was crazy about it. That memory is the best. It ran out on me years ago, but seeing these reviews made me want to buy it again.
Initially it did not convince me, I thought about selling it and put it aside. I picked it up again with the rainy season in Guadalajara, and what good it was that I did not sell it; it is a beauty. It is a subtle yet masculine aroma, I can be perceived for a long time. Like any YSL L’Homme, it does not have monstrous performance, but it fulfills me without problems for 7 hours on skin, sometimes 8; it varies greatly with the weather, working wonderfully on cloudy days.
This YSL L’Homme Ultime was my signature for over three years. I finished four bottles using it daily. It is a fragrance I adore, the only male rose perfume I like (it is an almost imperceptible rose, nothing like Toy Boy or Declaration). That ginger opening and that nearly magical woody dry-down make it versatile for semi-formal occasions. It smells great and is not invasive. Its performance is good, around 6-7 hours. I do not recommend it in extreme heat; it unleashes its full potential in temperate or cloudy climates. Enjoy it, and if you find it for less than 70 euros, do not hesitate. Yes, it is my favourite designer fragrance, unmatched.
A beautiful fragrance, I smell the cardamom from start to finish. The opening is a bit more citrusy and spicy, then it settles, giving way to light woods and a sweet touch. The truth is it is a great perfume; if you can get it at a decent price, do so. Good longevity, moderate trail, and exquisite aroma.
An elegant, versatile, and slightly sensual fragrance. Ideal for an intense spring night. I love the spicy mix of ginger and citrus in the opening, which then yields to that rose with a masculine air. The longevity and trail are moderate. Highly recommended.
Second review of this fragrance, I found it again. I do not want to contradict the previous one because it was a genuine impression of the moment. Now I see it has more power than I thought. The aroma has a ‘synthetic/addictive’ duality. I highlight that, although it has much citrus, I do not think it is appropriate for very hot seasons; I perceive a sweetness that would become suffocating. It is strange to me that when Ultime was discontinued, no accessible perfume with such an effective aromatic profile remained.
A beautiful, elegant, and fresh fragrance. A very clean rose, one of those special scents. But it is no longer available, the same old joke: good fragrances are discontinued. The few that remain are priced through the roof… a typical piece of shit from this perfumery commercial system.
It is the best flanker YSL L’Homme ever had, and they discontinued it, what a shame! Fortunately, I knew its potential and bought two bottles; it is unique in its style. How to explain it? It is fresh, clean, elegant, sporty yet formal. I can imagine a young man enjoying cold drinks in a private clubhouse at a country club. Now its performance is average, lasting a few hours with a trail that goes beyond the arm for three hours. Without a doubt, it is the discontinued perfume that hurt me the most; if you can get hold of it, do not hesitate, for summer it is a bomb of compliments.
A bright, green floral opening that dries down to an opaque, elegant green. It shares much with Sukimuki 16 in its dry-down, featuring cardamom, vetiver, and geranium that give it a leathery touch. I feel Ultime is more refined, with lighter notes and less overwhelming character. They are very different only at the start. Since it is discontinued, if you seek that dry-down in Mexico, Sukimuki 16 is a good option, although it is more earthy, intense, and has a dirtier nuance. Both are elegant for transitions or fresh summers, work better during the day, and share the same DNA with small or large differences depending on the nose.
