I’ve tried the samples from the 4x5ml pack (Creed of Friday, Dubai Oud, Royal Blend, and Woody Oud) after falling in love with London Oud, and none of these four have surpassed that first one. Dubai Oud is very oriental; for the first three or four hours it smells only of an intense rose, similar to the famous one from Al Haramain Oudi. You have to wait for those hours for the rose to fade and let the spices come through, which are a subtle touch, nothing obvious. Right now I’m comparing it with Aramis Calligraphy Rose and Lyric Man by Amouage. Of the four, the Aramis is the most distinctive: dry, sweet, alcoholic, waxy, and very warm, as if it had a hint of heliotrope. Dubai Oud is very similar to the Al Haramain one but more intense and deeper (one is in alcohol and the other in oil). The Amouage is the most luminous due to its citrus notes, yet at the same time deep and dark because of a barely perceptible musky-animal undertone that gives it great longevity, that feeling of smelling legendary perfumes from decades past. Perhaps the musk subconsciously evokes that animal and sexual facet we all have. Dubai Oud performs extraordinarily well, although in terms of creativity it seemed a bit thin to me. In the end, it’s a tribute to one of the most beautiful natural materials: the scent of the rose. By the way, with the Fragrantica note structure, I think in this case it’s better not to pay attention to it; there are no earthy notes or particularly sweet ones in the opening as the pyramid indicates.
