Descripción

Barry Lyndon by Maria Candida Gentile is an aromatic fougère fragrance for men and women. This composition was launched in 2010 under the olfactory direction of Maria Candida Gentile. The olfactory pyramid unfolds with grass top notes and green accents; the heart reveals heather, hyssop, and arnica; while the base anchors the structure with leather, vetiver, and vanilla.

Another of my favourites from the Maria Candida classic collection. Herbal green notes like hyssop mixed with a sweet aniseed touch, revolving around the leather. Perhaps a very subtle vetiver is noticeable in the base. In summary, it’s a green-aromatic fragrance with a leather base. It’s tremendously original and well-blended, with excellent quality as is standard for this house. It’s not dense, but easy to wear, fresh and airy, typical of Italian perfumery and this house, without falling into excessive volatility. The trail and longevity are moderate, around six hours. A different and exquisite experience. Highly recommended.

  • I’d like to add something to my review: it’s not for leather lovers, and I certainly am not one of them (I detest that note in fragrances). It’s one of the few that features leather centrally, and I appreciate that because it’s very soft. If you’re a fan of Tuscan Leather or Rien, you’re likely to be disappointed. It’s a green fragrance with many nuances and a semi-sweet touch, anchored on a soft leather. It evokes the image of the Irish adventurer Redmond Barry riding through the green countryside, just like in Kubrick’s film.

  • To be honest, it’s not really my style. The notes are a bit misleading because the opening isn’t fresh as one might expect; it smells stale, old, and heavy. I didn’t know the pyramid, but I saw that it softens a bit over time (it doesn’t really sweeten, although we assume the vanilla adds something sweet). Now that I’ve seen the notes, it must be a vanilla effect. I should also mention that some combinations brought me vague memories of Nuit Issey Parfum, which I do recommend for quality and price, but not this EDT. Although I like this phase more, it has no place on my shelf. The performance at first seems weak, but it ends up being average: about seven hours at medium projection.

  • Barry Lyndon is one of those perfumes that either hook you or make you want to throw it away; I was among those who hated it at first before ending up loving it. At first, I didn’t get it: it’s herbal and green, but with a bitter touch that isn’t the typical freshness. The leather is very in the background, subtle and quite uncommon. In the end, vetiver and woods like cedar come through, though I don’t detect any vanilla. I see it as 100% masculine and usable in any weather. The downside is that it doesn’t have much projection; although it lasts for hours, it clings to the skin very quickly. The good thing is that if you like it, the price is decent. In the end, that bitter aftertaste became addictive, and I adored those dry, subtle green notes. However, once I finished my decant, I don’t think I’ll repurchase it.
