Descripción

Vanille by Mona di Orio is an oriental woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2011, this composition was created by nose Mona di Orio. The top notes unfold with cloves, rum, bitter orange and petit grain; the heart reveals guaiac wood, sandalwood, vetiver and ylang-ylang; while the base notes settle on Madagascar vanilla, amber, tonka bean, balsam of Peru, leather and musk.

  • It took me by surprise: I didn’t expect a sugary vanilla gourmand, but a marvel with rum, clove and a fascinating dry down of guaiac wood. You can see Mona’s vision: a ship full of riches like woods, fruits and spices. It has that retro minimal, rustic and simple air. The quality of the essences is excellent, something we miss, and applying it brightens your day. The duration is enormous and the trail exceeds the average. Here you see the difference between mainstream brands and niche designers like Mona. Exceptional and ahead of its time; one day it will be considered one of the best perfumers of this century, alongside works like Vetiver or Musc. I’ve loved it, 8.5 points.

  • It caught me by surprise: I wasn’t looking for sweet vanilla, but a voyage on a ship loaded with rum, clove and guaiac wood. It’s that retro minimal and rustic vibe that Mona knows how to give, without pretensions. The quality of the essences is brutal, with a duration and projection that exceed the average. You can see the difference between big brands and niche designers like her. A work ahead of its time, just as incredible as Vetiver or Musc. I’ve loved it, 8.5 points.

  • Another gem from Mona di Orio and modern perfumery. On first try, it was love at first sight. I’m not a vanilla fanatic, but here what stands out is the woody and spiced side with rum and clove very present; the vanilla only accompanies. Imagine smelling an old ship transporting spices: it’s a unique olfactory journey. It’s rare for something to impact me instantly, but this and Vetiver are my favourites from the collection. Sillage and longevity excellent, more than 12 hours. What a pity to lose this perfumer.

  • For me, another masterpiece of MdO and modern perfumery. This was love at first sniff. I’m not a fan of vanilla, but this is very woody and spiced, with notable rum and clove, and of course vanilla. The issue is that vanilla or gourmand fans may be disappointed, as it is not a vanilla perfume per se, but a woody-spiced oriental that uses vanilla only as an accompaniment. It’s like what you would smell on a ship transporting vanilla and spices in the old days, reviving that journey. It’s very rare for a perfume to impact me just by trying it, and this is one of the few, along with Vetiver from the same collection. Sillage above average and excellent longevity (more than 12 hours without applying much). A huge loss for this perfumer.

  • I suspect it’s the clove, especially the bitter orange, which gives it a sour tone for three hours that, like in other perfumes, reminds me of vomit. It doesn’t pass the tolerance threshold, it’s there and I just don’t like it. As for the rum… I mean, alcohol never smells like alcohol to me and here it’s the same. Regarding the vanilla, although the brand boasts it is natural and sometimes smells like bean… well, I would prefer it, but no. At first, with the clove and other notes, it does remind me of that spicy smell of the bean, then it smells like normal vanilla, okay, not like from Mercadona hehe, but not like bean either. Despite this, it’s not bad and lasts a long time, but simply it doesn’t suit me and especially not at the astronomical price.

It is a very particular, interesting and elegant perfume, with a lot of personality and incomparable. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stand it; I kept it for three or four years hoping I would come to like it, but it always gave me nausea.
