*Carven-Homme* is undoubtedly one of the best oriental fragrances I have tried in the world of perfumery. At first, there are portions that remind me of Davidoff Relax. Once it dries, it’s inevitable to compare it due to its great resemblance to Gucci Envy For Men. It has excellent longevity that surpasses 8 hours on my skin and an extraordinary trail, so I couldn’t ask for more. The most interesting part comes at the end: it becomes a hyper-relaxing and stimulating scent that incites feeling more energetic or in a good mood. I have read English reviews mentioning similarities with Jaipur Homme and that it was synthetic; at least I didn’t notice it. If you are looking for Envy and can’t get it, I assure you Carven-Homme could be an almost twin brother; from my point of view, I recommend buying it blind, and comparing prices, it is much more economical. I am fascinated by its dry-down, incredibly aphrodisiac and sensual; the lovely thing is that it allows me to feel such lovely things that make me want to eat it. I don’t understand why they discontinue it. It’s sad but it’s reality: unique and intense, pure and infinite masculinity. I no longer believe they will release another work of art like Carven-Homme. Thank you for existing, I will remember you eternally and while I continue to enjoy you until you run out, my friend.
My favourite fragrance, pity it is discontinued and I could only buy it once; I keep it as my treasure. It is an elegant floral fragrance, almost unisex and quite warm. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone under 25; if you find it, buy it now because there is no stock and its price has gone through the roof. It is truly excellent and I have never smelled anything like it.
I bought this bottle blind for three reasons: 1. Because it’s from the house Carven, one of the brands that generates the most pleasant memories for me, especially its Vetiver, a festive classic male scent I knew from my childhood, as it was the perfume my mum used to give my dad. 2. The typical allure, due to the resemblance many attribute to the legendary Envy For Men by Gucci, a piece I also own. 3. An unbeatable price. Does Carven Homme resemble Envy? Perhaps it’s unfair to reference one perfume against another more ‘coveted’ one, but comparisons give rise to discussion. There is similarity, but with marked differences: Gucci is more varied and changeable, with an opening that bifurcates sour tones of ginger and mandarin, then sandalwood and spices, mutating into a floral and vanilla-laden frame with tobacco and leather. Carven has a simpler structure, with a sweet and spicy opening, less sour and spicy, where cinnamon and sandalwood are the protagonists in a softly talcum-dusted aura, without the greens or incense of Gucci. When dried, they are almost identical, with a base of musk, vanilla, and amber. The cinnamon in Carven reminds me a bit of Le Male by Gaultier. What percentage of similarity? It depends on the person. For me, it oscillates between 60% and 65%; it doesn’t detract from Carven, which is good in its own right. It’s not for all four seasons, nor restrictive; it depends on the skin; I see it as a night-time cut or for fresh days. Calibrating sprays is key. If you can get it at a good price, it’s a highly recommended piece to collect. Rating: 8.0.
Is Carven Homme and Gucci Envy still around? I used to buy Carven a while back based on rumours it was identical to the powerhouse Envy, but now I’m wondering: has anyone in their life actually tried it? To my taste, they don’t resemble each other that closely. They follow a similar path, and perhaps a certain note reminds you of that green, spicy ginger touch, but from there to being the same, nearly identical, or a clone? Nah, never. Carven has a strange opening, very vintage, like an old or rancid perfume; although it fades that sensation as it dries, in my opinion, that scent is present throughout the perfume’s life. It has excellent longevity, it easily lasted 10+ hours on me, and there’s a lot of wood, green touches, and cinnamon at the base. It’s a very office-appropriate fragrance and is one of those that requires personality to wear, as well as age; I’d say 35+, I think. Good performance, hard to find, it’s not an Envy but it’s a good one.
