It’s a good creation in its woody-spicy genre. Although it didn’t seduce me much, except for its brief top notes that clearly announce the perfume. Perhaps the fact that it was designed for autumn-winter didn’t allow for the best test conditions due to the summer heat in Spain; it would be a matter of testing it again. The noses behind it are very skilled, but I feel that this Carven Pour Homme stays closer to the skin than with an acceptable sillage. Its clash of notes is notable, along with a clear and very particular originality. Perhaps the sillage was the issue, but we shall see.
Just tested it again, now in winter. I wouldn’t highlight anything new, except that I find the perfume too minimalist in its notes; its alchemy is very good, but I would emphasise its top notes again, the best for me, with great personality that define an elegant and versatile fragrance (although I assume this because it lasts very little on my skin). I’m certain it’s not for me, despite what Lola at the Corte Inglés Sorolla counter says.
Carven doesn’t cut the mustard. Pour Homme is neither good nor bad; it’s something we’ve smelled a million times: a blend of Fahrenheit, Carolina Herrera, Green Irish Tweed, 212 and Narciso without the musk, with a metallic and herbal touch that isn’t unpleasant. Asking more than €30 for 100ml is extortionate. The opening is dreadful – grapefruit and sticky ambroxan, a repugnant muddy, fruity sweetness. After 15 minutes, it settles into its final version: a classic violet leaf lotion with an electric aftertaste. It doesn’t smell of tarred or cold violet, but rather halfway between the two; you detect the sugar and then the ethereal coolness. The sage (which I adore) gives it a mystical, spiced air, setting it apart from other office lotions and adding an electric, ozony green note. It’s a fragrance without personality, a generic juice in a pretentious bottle, plus it’s overpriced and overrated.
Bought it out of curiosity at a good discount: smells nice, perfect for the office or a quiet day at home, but it doesn’t stand out at all. It’s just one of thousands of fragrances that smell the same; no sillage, no projection, no presence. A bit of a ‘meh’ – I enjoyed it while it lasted, but I wouldn’t buy it again.
