Descripción

Iris Poudre by Frederic Malle is an aldehydic floral fragrance for women. Launched in 2000, this composition was created by nose Pierre Bourdon. Its top notes of ylang-ylang, carnation, aldehydes, sandalwood, bergamot, orange, grapefruit and juniper give way to a floral and woody heart featuring violet, lily of the valley, jasmine, rose, magnolia, iris root, leather, peach and cyclamen. The base reveals the essence of iris accompanied by musk, sandalwood, vetiver, vanilla, amber, ebony wood, cedar and tonka bean.

Yesterday I went out to take out the rubbish in these disgusting times we’ve unfortunately had to endure, dressed in my pyjamas with Pierre Bourdon’s Iris Poudre by Frédéric Malle. I’m astounded by the iris, in all its facets, and it’s… Good heavens! As you’d expect. It opens with a lost aldehydic note, with plenty of clove, and then—bam 💥💥—cinnamon emerges, becoming super ambered. As expected, the iris crowns it all, but hand in hand with some super lovely aldehydes. I’m not one to categorise scents by age range or status because that’s absolute rubbish; I wore Baccarat Rouge 540 to the library in a hoodie and got away with it, but this… It screams meetings with important people, offices in luxury buildings, business lunches with New York stock market directors, and multi-level orgies in mansion palaces. It would be perfect for a Patrick Bateman (American Psycho). In short: exquisitely elegant, distinguished, not highly powdery, and it has a quality that’s simply stunning. I see it as very masculine. But I often find myself with this type of perfume; perhaps I’m from a different generation and accustomed to perfumes categorised as feminine always being more fruity-floral?? No. It’s for whoever wants to wear it and that’s that. I’d gift it to my father if he knew how to appreciate this type of present.

  • VIOLET ON BARE SKIN: The violet here isn’t your everyday variety; it asserts itself with force, reminiscent of old-fashioned candies but without the sugar that sticks to your teeth. It is a powdery scent that doesn’t melt on the skin like soft cashmere, akin to L’Eau d’Hiver or Infusion d’Iris. Here, the iris is sharper, crisper, and uncompromising, revealing its purest and most austere facet. A bespoke perfume for those seeking the elegance of violet without adornments, without creaminess, just its sophisticated and ethereal essence.
