Descripción
Vetiver Extraordinaire by Frederic Malle is a woody oriental fragrance for men. Launched in 2002, the nose behind this composition is Dominique Ropion. I tried a sample of this Extraordinary Vetiver. Absolutely fabulous! Simply brilliant! I hope to buy it one day. I believe it’s on a higher level. As good as my classic vetivers, but with a wonderful modern twist. I want it so bad.
Extraordinary, only the price tag. I don’t know how much it cost me to write this. I was waiting to try the ‘King of Vetivers’. Since vetiver is my favourite note, I started testing almost every one I could find. When the sample of Extraordinaire arrived, I couldn’t wait any longer. I had so many expectations after reading and testing so many vetivers… Upon application, the opening was exactly what I expected or even better. A sparkling burst of top-quality vetiver with citrus and soft pepper, almost orgasmic. HOWEVER, five minutes into my skin, it smells like vinyl/rubber/plastic, as others say. I clarify that I’ve never felt that in any other vetiver. The disappointment was huge. A month later, I bought samples from another site and the result was the same: vetiver turning into plastic. As I write this, I almost lie to give it a ‘like’ just because it’s iconic or for all I expected, but whenever I found an argument, the price came to mind. Until today, I only say that three vetivers don’t work for me: 1- Vetiver Dance by Tauer, a nightmare. 2- Vetiver Original by Creed, acceptable but never worth that price. 3- Vetiver Extraordinaire, expensive and smells like plastic on my skin. I hope it works for others; I envy them. Longevity reaches about 7 hours, almost imperceptible, and the trail is moderate at first and then very close to the skin. Note: 4/10.

I had high expectations, given how highly it’s rated on forums. It is of good quality, but honestly, it reminded me a great deal of Guerlain’s Vetiver, which is much cheaper, so I’m not keen to spend nearly £200 on a 100ml bottle just yet. I found it quite earthy due to the vetiver, with little development. If you like Guerlain’s Vetiver, you’ll surely like this. Longevity and sillage are moderate. As it doesn’t become overpowering, it can be worn in all seasons and occasions. It’s masculine and of a classic cut.
Smells nice, as with everything else I’ve tried from Malle, but if money is tight, I don’t think it’s the best option, hehe. It’s a good vetiver but lacks much else, and the performance is merely average.

It suits me well. Opens with bergamot and pink pepper, then a potent vetiver softened by clove and myrrh, closing with cedar. I like it more than Encre Noire; it’s a good vetiver, but not extraordinary for me. Ideal for spring and autumn, during the day. Lasts quite a while and leaves a moderate trail.

Creamy woods of vetiver, sandalwood and cedar with a clean, green touch from the musk and oakmoss. Smells nice, but I can’t see anything that makes it special. It’s alright, nothing more.
