  • It’s a classic with a quite strong and very persistent scent, lasting up to 24 hours. Jovan Musk can be shocking for some noses, so use it in moderation. It tends to be a night fragrance. A gem for those seeking strong and long-lasting perfumes.

  • Antonio Chile

It’s a perfumery classic and economical, but on my skin it has poor longevity. Be careful applying it on clothes, as it is a fragrance that stains.

  • I have it and I love it: a very fresh scent. At first you feel that freshness, then comes the floral which I don’t like much, but the next day it smells great on the clothes. Good perfume and economical.

  • An economical and timeless classic. At first you notice citrus notes, then very masculine floral accords. It’s potent but drops in intensity over time; its longevity and trail are medium. As Antonio Chile says, it stains clothes, so avoid light garments. Ideal for daily use. Curiously, in the 70s it caused controversy due to its floral notes.

  • Jovan Musk is a cheap gem, simple but effective, cheerful and perfect for everyday use. It opens very strong and floral, which can scare those not familiar with classic perfumery, but once dried it leaves a clean, energetic musk with wild and animalic touches. It’s the fierce version of another classic, White Musk: sometimes it stings, but they are friendly bites, like an unexpected kiss. It’s dynamic, not very sophisticated but very rewarding; you’ll fall in love with it and use it like an old friend. The longevity is excellent for a cologne (around 7 hours) and the projection is moderate: noticeable but not invasive. Note: 9/10

  • I acquired it for about $10, it comes in 88 ml, curious. Super economical. The opening is basically an old cologne scent, penetrating and astringent, those that stay in your nose for hours. Afterwards, it has some masculine floral notes that evolve until it simply becomes a soapy, clean musk. In fact, it’s very similar to Avon Musk but sweeter and more delicate; I own both. The opening can be alarming but it’s very good a while later. Medium potency as an EDC; over-applying isn’t a problem due to its extremely low price. Recommended if you like musk and the clean scent, although due to its simplicity I consider (personally) that it’s more interesting as a ‘base’ for another perfume than as a perfume in itself. Anyway, a very classic classic and if you like it… As Bofill says: ‘You risk falling in love with it and wearing it every day as if it were a friend’. Cheers.

I used this bottle during the disco era of the 80s. If I find it, I would buy it. Ideal for going out at night to dance, seduce, and then ‘everything else’ until it disappears between the sheets (or inside a car). This perfume is for that: to enjoy. It’s not for studying in a library or with an executive staff, nor for medical visits or church. It smells of pheromones and rock, particularly due to that glittering orange hue; it seems like a magical potion; with this perfume, there’s no need to go to buy perfumes in witchcraft shops. Whoever wears it wants to say: ‘Words are superfluous, let’s get to the facts’. The secret: quite a bit of ambergris and musk.

  • wildkatzen

It’s a dense musk, bordering on unisex, which has some distance from Lagerfeld, but very little.

  • FerPerfum10

I bought it purely out of curiosity, as it’s a classic cologne that left a big mark in the 80s. It’s a fragrance with a lot of character; not everyone can adapt to it. I’ve had it for 18 years and bought it during the heat of summer, but in winter this perfume is a pleasure; strong perfumes are a delight for the nose, so for now I’ll keep it until the cold seasons arrive.

  • jerry drake

Simply an amazing fragrance: masculine, elegant, and sexy, with an incredible scent reminiscent of Lagerfeld Classic, though unfortunately it doesn’t last long on my skin. It’s a vintage floral with spicy notes that make it irresistible. A beautiful aroma, a relic from bygone eras that transports me back to my first nights at the disco, when, without being old enough, I would sneak in thanks to my older friends and cousins, ending up locked in a sofa with a juice, watching that magical world and listening to the hits of the moment. The lights, the DJs with vinyl records, people dancing, what an era… Those nights made me fall madly in love with music in general. Jovan Musk is a timeless and unusual proposal that has survived years without losing its charm. I would like to know if the vintage versions are more potent than the current one; it truly is a gem.

  • I remember it was very popular in the 80s due to its low price and many TV appearances. At that time, musky fragrances were already out of fashion for a teenager like me, and I never paid much attention to it, even though I felt it was very balanced and heavy. Today I bought a bottle and the scent is the same; I love it, only that it doesn’t last long. It’s like spraying a hydrolate of the original perfume, if such a thing existed. I’m enjoying it to the fullest, in any case. What I like most is its smell of real perfume. It doesn’t smell of simplicity; it smells of the art of perfumery, that which is almost non-existent, that which ambition and marketing turned into a street prostitute.

  • I had it in the 80s but didn’t pay much attention to it, and now, 40 years later, it reminds me of those nights out at the disco with my friends from my youth. I’m not sure if it has changed; in my memory, the perfume is the same, and amidst the smell of tobacco on clothes, there was always a trace of it the next day. Now I like it more. It’s harder to smell on the street and stands out for being different from everything done now. I’d define it as a dense musk that, after its initial potency, settles down to become part of you without being strident, but rather soft yet continuous.

  • It’s an excellent base to boost other perfumes: on its own, I love it, although my wife doesn’t so much due to the unisex charge, which at times reminds her of its balsamic nature… this is for those outside the trends or who aren’t interested in them. A good start for everything this fragrance might bring.

  • Horrible. Synthetic, animalic, smells like a scratch, like old perfume, in bad condition; I don’t like it at all.

  • I love it; I bought it yesterday and today when I applied it, it was like returning to my childhood in the 80s, watching that TV advert which seemed so scandalous back then, haha, it always caught my attention. As a teenager, I remember being given it and there was something about its scent I disliked (being a teenager, when you don’t know where you stand), yet at the same time it seemed attractive… and that characteristic orange colour. Anyway. Now at 39, I enjoy it much more; I feel it’s a survivor of classic emblematic perfumery from an era full of ideals, courage, and a desire to live. I find it a bit weaker than I remember, but it still holds its ground. It has that ‘nosequé’ spark that, despite being openly retro, represents youth and energy. Weak projection, but long-lasting. It’s a scent that feels like its time: distant, vintage, yet leaving its lovely mark on history. I detect musk, florals, and bitter oranges. It’s perfect for everyday wear.

  • Gaius Petronius

In my opinion, the best male fragrance with a musky base. A timeless classic (I started using it in the mid-80s) that you can buy for a ridiculous price. The opening is punchy, with a potent blend of musk, florals, and citrus. The dry-down moderates the initial harshness and balances the nuances, letting the musk predominate, which becomes more noticeable over time. Longevity can reach six hours, with a heavy sillage at first (30 minutes) that becomes moderate and lasts up to two hours. It’s a straightforwardly inspired fragrance that ends up revealing striking complexity, with enigmatic, sensual, and dark twists. It’s not particularly elegant, but powerfully magnetic. Absolutely recommended, especially for the quality-to-price ratio. It’s a true treasure of classic perfumery that, in my view, deserves a 10/10.

  • Hello, I gave this budget-friendly fragrance to my son and he loved it at just 17 years old. He likes it because it feels very clean, musky, with lavender, mint, and a touch of wood. Great longevity and sillage. 👌🏻

I’ve owned three bottles of this fragrance in my life: one my father left me at the end of the 80s (half-used), another my mother gave me in the early 2000s, and one I bought in 2007. Although reformulations have worked against it, I admit it’s my guilty fragrance (alongside Arabela’s Manhattan). It’s a decent scent, though in the latest bottle, 60% of the opening is pure alcohol and the dry-down is synthetic, yet it still briefly smells like the original Jovan Musk from the early bottles. I definitely wouldn’t buy it again due to the drop in quality to ridiculous levels, but if you can find one from before 2000 and have plenty of money… you can treat yourself to that trip back in time.

  • Jovan Musk is in my top 10. Its floral musky scent breaks the mould: original, anachronistic, beautiful, addictive, and super punk. On the first day, it seemed strong but amused me; once it softened, I was blown away and fell in love. It smells powerful and unapologetic; perhaps not of the highest quality, but very rich. It reminds me of drag queens in heels, makeup, a dashing figure, my older cousins in the 80s, hairdressers, and adventure. It lasts for weeks on clothes and hours on the skin. It’s cheap and a beast for the price. It smells brilliant; it’s a different bomb that adds another dimension. It makes me feel playful; I love it. 10/10.

  • My go-to scent since university days, back 25 years ago. It reminds me of that time and I’m still wearing it in 2020. It’s never missing from my collection; it’s fresh, pleasant on the skin, and long-lasting. Just a word of caution: if you apply it directly to light-coloured clothing, it can stain, but on clothes it smells fantastic and lasts for ages.

  • It delivers a lot for the extremely low price. Far from being a simple cologne. Traditional but versatile aroma. I add that it leaves me with a leather note sensation. I know it is not declared and perhaps only I perceive it.

  • JavierSantana

The price is ridiculous for the quality. It is easy to find in any Walmart. It is a delicious 70s perfume, present in flowers and musk, very versatile without being overwhelming like other musks (Paco Rabanne Pour Homme or Givenchy Gentleman 74 with civet). As Agustín Lara said, ‘only once’ did I have the occasion to smell it. It reminds me a lot of freshly washed clothes with flowers. If I find money, I will buy it at Walmart, which here in Mexico is very cheap.

  • IvanPerfumista

I imagined it more aggressive and vintage, like a retro macho with a moustache, but it is neither one nor the other. It is warm, talcum-powdered, and has an animal touch. Perhaps it has undeclared aldehydes. It is like the DNA of Chanel N5, but without white flowers. In my opinion, it is perfectly unisex. Smell before buying.

  • I am a fan of musk; it is one of my favourite fragrances in an animal version, although the white one also pleases me. It starts fresh and soapy, reminiscent of baby fragrance due to its delicacy, without losing its masculine imprint. The geranium and mint give it freshness. It feels rich quality, very subtle and pleasant. I would use it for moments of seduction. It has a truly animal base; it reminds me of pig skin, which is similar to human skin, exactly what I was looking for: a fragrance without fear of being animal, but subtle. No one will make strange gestures if you overapply. Coty makes it with good quality. It reminds me of the classic Avon musk, but this version surpasses it in quality and balance. I wish it lasted longer, but for the price I am satisfied. Highly recommended, hidden gem.

  • KevinVillarreal

It used to have incredible longevity, but they took away the oil and ruined it. Now you put it on and two hours later the scent disappears.

  • Good perfume. Although it has been reformulated, it remains an excellent fragrance at a good price that even earns you some compliments. It smells like a barbershop and a bit of makeup, and it brings back lovely memories.

  • Theradiologizt

It smells like a classic barbershop: clean, talcum-powdered, dusty yet vibrant. On my nose, it is a traditional barbershop scent with lavender. For the price, it is an unbeatable aroma. You wear it to see the mates and play pool games at your crazy pool hall.

  • Miguel Atenas S.

My mother gifted me this perfume, saying it was iconic and better than what she used to wear. Upon application, I feel it is super unisex, almost feminine. As it dries, it improves a little, but it still gives me that unisex fragrance sensation and feels very little masculine for my taste. I only wear it for the nostalgia it brings me.

Jovan Musk is like a distant cousin of Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur, with its own differences and healthy distance. While the 70s powerhouses like Polo Green or Azzaro 78 shout hard masculinity and rock, Pierre and Jovan are the clean-cut ones of the era: they have that dose of animal notes, leather, and woods, but they are more controlled than Kouros or Antaeus. They evoke the office worker of the time: sideburns, a Ralph Lauren tie, a tweed jacket, and Oxford shoes. It opens citrusy, soapy, and with a spicy base, soft from the start, with clove and spices, plus undeclared aldehydes. It dries down to soap, old detergent, a grandparent’s house, and a patio with a clothesline. It has a soft animal note, comparable to Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, but without the ferocity of civet; it is clean and refined skin. Ideal for daily wear in cool weather, it smells clean and is a classic by general culture, alongside Brut and Agua Brava. Blessings.

  • Mr. Baskerville

I do not quite like it. I have perceived a subtle and structured opening: clove with a non-pungent citrus touch and a soapy accord, clean and promising. Almost immediately, the mint comes out, well wrapped by soft lavender; the pepper, spices, and declared amber I have not noticed. The base does not convince me: musk with a faint hint of something that reminds me of the opening/heart but without woods, which I do not perceive. This musk lasts (appearing between 5 and 10 minutes after spraying) and although it is not unpleasant, it seems synthetic, almost plastic to me. It does not have good projection and the duration is short; overall, the price-quality ratio is poor. For me, if Jovan Musk for Men maintained more of the opening or heart, emphasised the woods, and mitigated the musk (without improving that artificial imprint), it would be more attractive. Unfortunately, I bought it because it is difficult to try; it is economical but does not cast a shadow over others in its range. I am not one to perfume myself for the gym, but I do not see another occasion to finish it off.

  • JavierSantana

Reviewing again: Jovan Musk is not bad. Entry-level from Coty, the whole Jovan line is vintage, so for the price, it is not bad. However, it lacks complexity, potency, and nuances. It was never a powerhouse, not even in its original formulas; nowadays they sell a shadow of its decent longevity. It is white musk, nothing animal, floral, powdery, aldehydic, perhaps slightly liquorish due to the clove and aldehydes, very lightly spiced. Broadly speaking, it smells like grandma’s laundry detergent or soap (like Zote) with poor duration. The base lasts, yes, but only because musks are the last to go, being more solid than liquids and evaporating very slowly. In summary: if you want something classic that smells as described, it is a solid proposition. I recommend having a backup when it runs out (it goes quickly) and applying it on clothes. It has an timeless aura, but it feels old. For just a bit more, I would prefer Lapidus, Bogart, Oscar de la Renta, or Halston Z14 for something more complex with more presence. For less, although clearly masculine, Puig’s Quorum is extraordinary. If you seek clean and versatile musk, the base of Agua Brava does not disappoint and has more pleasant top notes. Due to its neutrality, it goes well to work and can please women who prefer soap scent to sweet bombs. PD2: If Quorum is a good substitute for pure potency and masculinity, Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui is better if you are looking for something long-lasting but soft, with spicy, aldehydic, liquorish, soapy, musky notes, and good oakmoss for just a bit more. Blessings.

  • I had been looking for this perfume for years and finally got it yesterday. At first, it put me off with its heavy vintage aroma, but then I felt something sexual that reminded me of Calvin Klein’s Obsession and Jean Paul Gaultier’s Le Male. I like it a lot, it is addictive, sexual, and it will go down as one of my favourites.

  • JesusValper

Full-on animal musk! Potent, raw, and far too strong for today. If you want to try musk (or a fragrance where it dominates almost 90%), give it a go. If you are young and new and think to use it casually for uni or daily wear, run away, bro. It is for people aged 60 and over; even my dad does not like it because it smells like ‘old man’. As a gift for a grandfather, given its price, it is a good option if he enjoys strong 70s aromas.

  • It smells good, very retro. I use it out of nostalgia, as my late father wore it by choice. I share his opinion, although I understood it better with the years. It is for these fragrances that I like Quorum, Halston Z-14, Grey Flannel, Bijan, Azzaro, Cool Water, Giorgio Beverly Hills, etc.

  • charlotinable

It smells like pure baby, talcum powder, and a tender perfume… It is a delight, and I wonder why on earth I have never bought it, when I have always used the women’s version which is also delicious. I am going to buy it. It is a sharp, powdery, and elegant talcum. The good thing is that it is cheap and refined. It is a rough, wild musk that evokes sweet wet earth with a herbaceous touch… My goodness, what beauty. There is not much difference between the men’s and women’s versions; both are unisex, and I have the idea of mixing them, I believe it would be a wonderful result.

  • Basically, it is a retro musk men’s cologne, with that powdery, sweet, and slightly ‘plastic’ touch that smells like hairspray. It has citrus sparkles at the start, but that is all. The vibe is that of a young lad from the 70s in a denim shirt, corduroy trousers, and Nino Bravo-style hair; it even evokes those John Holmes movies, I suppose due to that sexually revolutionary era and those ‘seductive’ notes. The performance is austere, as befits, but the presentation is comfortable for carrying and reapplying. I tried it out of curiosity and with an ironic taste for what is anachronistic and ‘kitsch’. Personally, I will not continue using it, because the scent is unrefined and nowadays offers nothing but nostalgia if you show the bottle. Although respectable, it no longer projects that youthful and sexy image of before, but rather smells of cheap and old items from neighbourhood bazaars, alongside school supplies and laser keyrings.

  • Ing. DelaCroix

For many, it is bottled nostalgia, a classic, light, and neat aroma that reminds one of a father or grandfather. We bought it out of emotion, not for daily use or to stand out. Currently, it has low projection and moderate longevity; it is no longer the long-lasting fragrance of before. Personally, the current version ‘makes me nauseous’ (although I like the scent), probably due to a molecule that triggers that adverse reaction.

  • I bought this to gift to someone who wore it as their signature in the 70s, and after using it myself, I was surprised. Despite its vintage air, it is easy to wear: musky, sweet, clean, with a fresh and floral touch. It reminded me of Old Spice deodorant or hairspray, that classic scent that transports you to another era. The clove and citrus top note caught my attention, a combination rarely seen nowadays. It does not stand out for complexity, performance, modernity, or original technique. On my skin, it lasts a short time and the projection is discreet, but for its price, it offers more than it promises. It is not for young people; it suits mature individuals who connect with classic aromas, those of grandfathers, fathers, or uncles. It is not modern, but it retains something many current perfumes have lost: memory. Rating: 6/10.

  • I bought this because it was my dad’s perfume, the one he wore when we were children and which I associate with him. He passed away yesterday, and the sad part is that he tried to reach out to me and my siblings, but we didn’t accept it; now we are regretful, and it will be a scent I remember him by for the rest of my life.
