  • It’s a delight, one of my brother’s favourites. It smells clean and has a very rich trail. I can’t quite define it: it’s soft yet lasts well, it’s not intrusive, and the scent is very refined. Ultimately, when it dries down, it’s powdery-soapy. A woman could easily wear it. I recommend it; it’s a somewhat underrated and slightly hard-to-find Cavalli fragrance. I might end up buying a bottle; it doesn’t matter if I use it myself, my brother absolutely fascinates me.

I agree with ALICIA: it’s a delight, no ambiguity about it. As a user of the Diesel Fuel for Life Denim Collection Homme and Fuel for Life Homme, I remembered them the moment I smelled it. I think it’s a line aimed at a younger audience (15–25 years old), but in the case of Cavalli Black, it defies age boundaries; it can be youthful or more ‘adult’. Interestingly, the first thing I noticed were the middle notes: white pepper, lavender and geranium, which I’ve become very familiar with lately. What strikes me is its subtlety; nothing feels as crude as with the Diesel scents. If I had to choose a similarity, it would be the Fuel for Life Homme (no coincidence, both are Aromatic Fougères). It’s not tremendously fresh, but I’d recommend it for spring and autumn evenings. How many times have I said I love a fragrance?… It’s a gem in my collection. PS: Azuriiita helped me locate it, as she says it’s discontinued.

  • I stumbled upon this by chance and liked it instantly. It’s fresh, clean and sufficiently long-lasting for a daily wear. It’s not complex, but that doesn’t make it boring; it’s simple, honest and uplifting. It’s a pity my bottle is running low… and I’m afraid I won’t be able to find it again.

I’m wearing it again today; it’s one of my favourites: Roberto Cavalli Black. I’ll add a bit to what I’ve said before (hoping I’m not contradicting myself). It’s a wonderful Oriental Fougère, a clean scent very much in the vein of Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male, Prada Amber Pour Homme, or Cuba Paris Gold (the Le Male clone, as everyone knows). I used to compare it with Diesel Fuel for Life Denim Collection Homme and Fuel for Life Homme due to their youthful vibe and because they’re both Oriental Fougères (a sort of ‘sweet herbal’ aroma if you can imagine it). The top notes are coriander, tarragon and bamboo; the heart features white pepper, lavender and geranium; and the base has tonka bean, musk and cedar. It’s a shame it seems discontinued—I have a little 50ml bottle and can’t bear to use it up…

  • I first picked this up in 2017 and, as of 2024, managed to find a tester at a great price. It’s a perfect example of how simplicity doesn’t mean generic; I haven’t found anything quite like it. White Musk for Men (or Blue Musk) comes close on the musk but lacks the spice, while Le Male has the spice but misses that soft musky warmth. F Black by Ferragamo has a similar structure but feels rougher and drier, with a fruity opening instead of bamboo, and tonka bean in the base rather than musk. Midnight in Paris is no longer made and costs a fortune, and I haven’t tried Prada Black yet. It’s an oriental fougère with a bamboo and spicy (white pepper) opening alongside clean lavender, drying down to musk with a talcum touch and tonka bean. The performance is short but perfectly balanced between modern and 90s retro vibes, truly unique in its kind. Being slightly sweet, I’d recommend it for spring. Just be aware it contains Lyral.
