Another good Armaf fragrance. They say it resembles Kilian’s Rose Oud, but I do not know that one to comment. What I do know is that it does not smell like Joop! Homme as stated here. The opening is potent and spicy; although it has citrus, it does not result in freshness, but rather in density and impact, wrapped in many spices. The rose is noticeable but not potent, well mixed with citrus and geranium. The citrus trail disappears quickly, but the floral notes continue mixing with spices and smoky trails, reminding me of the dirty leather of an old wallet with very faint floral notes. The dry down is nice: spicy and sweet woods, somewhat dry with that medicinal trail of the oud. I am not an expert, but it resembles two perfumes I own: it is very similar to Kolmaz’s Arabi Cana but lighter and without the leather note, and also to Wajid Farah’s Enigma but without as much potency or fruity notes, like an amalgamation of both. Longevity and sillage are very good, surpassing 8 hours and having good sillage for the first two hours before you have to smell it up close. I use it at night and in cold seasons, although it would not be out of place on cool spring or summer nights. A quality perfume at a competitive price, who would not risk trying it?
Another gem from Armaf. Forget any comparison to Joop! Homme; there is no resemblance whatsoever. The opening is potent and spicy; although there are citrus notes, it doesn’t feel fresh but rather dense and striking, wrapped in spices and a well-blended rose with geranium. The citrus fades quickly, but the floral and smoky spicy notes linger, evoking that dirty leather of an old wallet (though it’s not listed in the pyramid). The dry down is beautiful: sweet, dry woods with that medicinal hint of oud. I’m not an expert, but it reminds me of a lighter Arabi Cana by Kolmaz and an Enigma by Wajid Farah without the same potency. It’s a blend of both. Performance and trail are top-notch, lasting over eight hours and projecting well for the first two. Ideal for night and cold weather, though it also works in fresh springs. Unbeatable quality and price, who wouldn’t take the risk?
This fragrance is magical! I am new to this and do not know much about how to describe it. I bought it blind and when I opened the first bottle, I was disappointed because it smelled like mosquito repellent or insecticide and faded quickly; I thought I had been scammed. Then I applied more, nearly 6 sprays, and I smelled that repellent again but sweeter. Over time I noticed the rose scent, and from then on it was exquisite, something sweet and attractive that made me check my hand repeatedly. I felt wrapped in a bubble of woods and roses. The longevity is long, over 8 hours, and the sillage is heavy. I did not receive many compliments; it is for oneself, not to please others. It caused an addiction because I always want to smell it. If I put on another perfume and notice a similar note, I want to return to Shadeswood. I would not say it is a safe blind buy because it smells strong, but if you already know the rose and wood scent, buy it… it will hypnotise you.
The opening is strong; don’t sniff it too closely at first. After ten minutes, a very masculine rose appears alongside the oud, creating a simply exquisite perfume. It’s elegant for men, ideally over 30 years old. The trail and longevity are quite strong, but as they say, don’t buy it blindly.

I really love it. It smells strange but it is addictive. I thought it would be the typical rose-oud combo, but the geranium gives it an acidic and novel touch. It is the most masculine rose I have tried, intoxicating and seductive. It transports me to a cool night in a humid garden, full of freshly watered red flowers and trees with wet bark. The citrus opening is effervescent and ephemeral, followed by the spicy notes in perfect harmony with the rose, oud, and geranium at the half-hour mark. On my skin it lasts little, about 4 hours, but it projects a lot until it suddenly disappears. Perhaps it is olfactory saturation. I recommend buying it, but not blind; if you know rose-oud and dare to try something different, go for it.
This fragrance is a delight! I received it as a gift and can’t stop using it. The nuances of oud and rosewood are very clear. The clove releases with great potency upon application. The first time I was surprised by the intensity, but after half an hour it mellows and you can enjoy the nuances, which Fragrantica describes very well. It’s not for everyone, and watch out, don’t exaggerate with the sprays because it has quite a bit of potency.
What a delight this fragrance is! I received it as a gift and cannot stop using it. The oud and rose are very noticeable, and the clove comes out with great force at the beginning. The first time I was surprised by the potency, but after half an hour it calms down and you enjoy the nuances, which are explained very well on Fragrantica. It is not for everyone, so be careful: do not overapply because it smells strong.
I bought it blind based on the reviews, as I am new to this and previously loved other Armaf scents like Club de Nuit Intense, Tres Nuit, and Italiano Uomo. However, this scent is very heavy; it reminds me of that old lady with talcum-powdered roses who smells bad when she applies them. Definitely not for me, and although I like strong perfumes, this one made me feel dizzy. Very heavy for my taste!
I bought it blindly based on the reviews; I already owned Club de Nuit Intense, Tres Nuit, and Italiano Uomo from Armaf and loved them all. But this is a very heavy scent. It reminds me of an old lady with talcum-powdered rose upon application. Definitely not for me, even though I like strong perfumes; in fact, I feel dizzy. Very heavy for my taste.
Greetings, fragrance community! I thought I would not review Shades Wood because Darkbeat had already said everything, but I decided to take the plunge. Armaf usually has proposals with personality: Club de Nuit Intense Man, Black Onyx, Legesi Homme, and Shades Wood. The last two are my favourites, perhaps due to my age (50) and my taste for retro and uncommon scents. Forget that it smells like Joop! Homme; with all due respect, Joop! is out of fashion. Joop! is for dancing, Shades Wood is for an 80s orchestra. It begins with spices and citrus, the rose softens the pepper in the heart, and the dry down is pleasant with leather, cedar, and a touch of sandalwood. With 6 sprays, it projects well for 3 hours and then settles on the skin with perceptible bursts until 8 hours. Ideal for cold, rainy afternoons or nights. Recommended for men aged 35 to 100; those under 35 should test it on skin first. I do not receive compliments, but rather remarks on how it smells. I imagine Al Pacino as Michael Corleone surrounded by old mobsters listening to ‘Maestra Vida’ by Rubén Blades and drinking Johnny Walker Black. It is a safe purchase that will have its moment. Longevity: 8.5, Sillage: 8.5, Versatility: 6, Compliments: 5, Packaging: 7, Bottle: 8, Price: 10. Thanks Darkbeat for encouraging me. Greetings from Panama.
Hello, blessings to the community! I thought I wouldn’t review Shades Wood because Darkbeat had already described it 90%, but he encouraged me. Armaf always offers something interesting: Club de Nuit, Black Onyx, Legesi, and now Shades Wood. The last two are my favourites, perhaps due to my age (50) and my taste for retro and uncommon scents. Whoever said it smells like Joop! Homme should have suffered from olfactory fatigue; I used Joop years ago and there is no similarity. With Joop you dance, with Shades Wood you’d be out of context unless you’re in an 80s orchestra. The opening dominates with spices over citrus; the rose makes the pepper bearable in the heart. The dry down is pleasant, with leather, cedar, and a touch of sandalwood. With six sprays it projects for three hours, then drops to skin but remains perceptible with bursts until eight hours. For cold, rainy afternoons or night. Recommended for men aged 35 to 100; those under 35 should test it on skin first. It doesn’t get me many compliments, but plenty of praise on how it smells. Imagine Al Pacino as Michael Corleone, surrounded by old mobsters listening to ‘Maestra Vida’ and drinking Johnny Walker Black. Safe purchase with its right moment. Longevity 8.5, Trail 8.5, Versatility 6, Compliments 5, Packaging 7, Bottle 8, Price 10. Thanks Darkbeat for encouraging me. Greetings from Panama, blessings.
Tested on skin 15 minutes ago: it is not the typical Cristal Oud or O Exciting style rose-oud. My nose betrayed me and I thought of my Fahrenheit decant; I tested it on the other wrist and the resemblance was surreal. An olfactory illusion? Perhaps, it is very subjective. They do not share notes except for cedar, and the florals are different, but in Shades Wood I detect leather; perhaps that mixture activated my memory of Fahrenheit. My review is not technical: these are two perfumes on different paths. I just wanted to share a surprise; we will see how it dries down and lasts, perhaps I will return with something more objective. Fragrant greetings.
I have been wearing it for months and it is complicated: a mature rose, almost decomposing, very present, with a strong oud that dissuades me from using it often. However, like any good exotic dish, one must keep eating until one accepts it as it should be.
Shades Wood is an adult yet contemporary fragrance. It’s not for the 20s nor does it smell old; it carries an ancient but modern DNA, extremely masculine and refined. Perfect for night: restaurants, dates in classy bars, or formal gatherings. It exudes an authentically opulent style. It’s a captivating gem, ideal if you’re not a fan of vintage. It’s not linear: the opening is a bit alcoholic, but then the rose settles strongly and the oud appears, giving it a rich and abundant aromatic eccentricity. Exceptional performance. Scent 9.0, Projection up to three hours, Longevity 8 to 10 hours on skin and clothes. Recommended.
Armaf Shades Wood is an adult yet contemporary fragrance, suitable for neither the twenties nor old age. It possesses an ancient yet modern DNA, very masculine and refined. It is ideal for the evening: dinners, dates in classy bars, or formal gatherings. It exudes an authentically opulent style. It is a captivating jewel, my favourite among vintage scents. It is not linear; it starts with an alcoholic note, but then the rose settles in strongly and the oud emerges, adding exotic richness. Exceptional performance: 3 hours of projection and 8 to 10 hours of longevity on skin and clothes. Recommended.
I don’t know why no one mentions it, but this is a super clone of Tom Ford Oud Wood, they smell exactly the same. If you want to smell rich and exotic, try it.
This perfume surprised me quite a bit; I imagined something more challenging due to the cumin and oud notes, but in reality, I was greatly surprised: I barely feel the cumin. Its opening is citrusy, and after a few minutes, an exquisite rose begins to emerge, one of the best I’ve tried, mixed with oud and those citrus notes that, although felt less, are always noticeable after a few hours in the life of the fragrance, and believe me, it’s quite a lot. An elegant, well-crafted perfume with good longevity and projection. Ideal for fresh autumn and winter days.
Distinct, dominant and elegant. Excellent performance.
Niche fragrance in a very economical format. It immediately reminded me of TOM FORD OUD WOOD, which is strange that it doesn’t appear as a similarity in the ‘reminds me of’ section. Powerful and invasive opening; I recommend not smelling it immediately because it saturates the olfactory senses with a bomb of spices that prevents you from sensing any other aroma for a few minutes. After about 10 minutes, the fragrance settles and the rose appears with quite a spicy pepper, and a smoky aroma is perceived in the background; eventually, the oud wood fixes itself excellently and is exquisite. I recommend buying only after testing, because it’s not for every taste; it’s a strong, smoky, yet very elegant and distinctive scent that can overwhelm you if you prefer fresher or sweeter aromas. But for those of us who like powerful scents, this strengthens your personality ‘here I come, look at me and don’t forget me’, that’s the slogan this fragrance projects.
It’s a very good perfume, with mega longevity and a good trail. A very good oud wood combined with very prominent spices and flowers. I don’t like the rose tone (it makes me sick). It’s a bit cloying for me, so I don’t recommend using it in warm times or climates. Still, I don’t regret buying it. I don’t like how it smells on me, but my wife smells very good in it.
The first time I had to get rid of it was quick. It has good longevity and some projection, a rich woody scent and a very delicious rose… But there’s a smell that persists from start to finish, a tyre or burnt plastic scent that gives me a headache. If it weren’t for that plasticky burnt smell, the perfume would be exquisite. Scent 6, Longevity 8, Projection 7, Price 8 (it’s cheap, but for the same money you can buy something better).
I got rid of it quickly the first time. It has good longevity and some projection, smells nice of wood and has a delicious rose… But there is a smell that persists from the opening until it fades: it smells like burnt rubber or burnt plastic and gives me a headache. If it weren’t for that plastic-like smell, it would be exquisite. Scent 6, Longevity 8, Projection 7, Price 8 (it’s cheap, but for that money you can buy something better).
For a formal occasion, this is spectacular. A delicious, well-placed rose note that blends perfectly with the initial citrus and the sweet herbal undertones, with the base wood adding elegance. And I must reiterate, the very woody aspect overwhelms me. You must like the rose, but if you do… this beats a Toy Boy by Moschino with its tiresome pepper, or other rose-oud works that become cloying and too smoky. On top of that, it’s a bargain and the trail and longevity are through the roof. PS: Extremely similar to Blue Sapphire by BTV, but without having to sell your organs.
I bought it for myself, but upon trying it, I didn’t like it and gave it to my brother. He then smelled it and it’s spectacular… it has an amazing trail, noticeable from afar… a very well-crafted rose. Pity the quality of the packaging and the atomiser, which leaked after a week of use, and the paint came off. Poor in that regard.
Projection and longevity are beastly. A fragrance with plenty of personality and, for me, delicious. It has a host of spices that make it aggressive (my wife likes it, but after a few hours of wearing it, less so); the cloves and pepper sting the nose. Apply it moderately and preferably in autumn or winter.
It smells terrible. I tried to like it, kept it for several months thinking I’d eventually get used to it, but the opposite happened: every time I tried it, the smell was worse than the previous time. It gives me an insecticide-type aroma. Luckily I could exchange it, I just hope the person I gave it to doesn’t read this because I looked very hypocritical doing the convincing work.
It gave me a nervous breakdown. I wore it for months, convinced I’d eventually get used to it, but the opposite happened: every time I tried it again, it smelled worse than the last. It smells purely of insecticide. Fortunately, I switched to something else; I just hope the person who took it doesn’t read this, because I felt very hypocritical trying to convince them.
