I’m a Mancera fan and I admit their opening scents are scandalous: strong, animalic, and strange. But once they dry down, they’re absolute wonders! I bought four and understood the line by the second. I started with Roses Jazmin, fresh and floral, though I barely noticed its opening. Not until I tried Musc Rose Aoud did I truly get it. Now, with this fourth one, I’m not even mortified by the strong initial blast. Highly recommended.
I was looking for an oud rose similar to Armani Privé Rose d’Arabie or Tiger by Cavalli, so I dived into this based on English reviews. At first, it smells of alcohol (with two sprays… how best to describe it?). In the top notes, I detect nothing; after an hour, flowers and something citrusy emerge, but it smells soapy. It lacks the oud base I was expecting. It’s disappointing; it seems more masculine and might suit a man better. The oud I was seeking isn’t there (the one in Tiger definitely delivers).
It’s a bit too strong for me, but it has good longevity and a heavy trail. The opening reveals a blend of pepper and cloves with the florals. Then the other notes come through, but for my taste, it ends up slightly cloying.
