A warm, sweet, and spiced woody perfume that I am liking immensely; I didn’t expect it to be this good and it has been a pleasant surprise. I had read it smelled of petrol, sweat, or tar, but it smells nothing of the sort to me. The opening is chaotic and dense, almost obscuring what comes next, but luckily it settles and you perceive an intense, formal woody aroma. It’s like a bed of spiced woods where a soft, tamed oud rests, bathed in a fine, elegant musky vanilla. As with other Al Rehab scents, I don’t perceive the floral notes; I suppose they are there but my nose doesn’t detect them. I like this interpretation of Oud because it isn’t dirty and strong like in others; here it is delicate, with that sweet and medicinal touch, but wrapped in plenty of spiced wood so as not to stand out too much. With the musky vanilla touch, it becomes a creamy, warm aroma, with that spicy kick that makes you smell your hand at every instant. It doesn’t have much evolution, but for the price it is magnificent. It reminds me of Zara’s Exclusive Oud, but this Al Rehab is sweeter and creamier. The longevity is very high, easily surpassing 8 hours; the trail is moderate, more of an aura around you, not very wide but noticeable up close or when you enter a closed space. The version is roll-on oil. Perfume for fresh climates, usable at any time if it’s not very hot.
I ordered it from the US with a friend. I had good expectations; it’s the small roll-on, like an oil. It has enviable power and longevity. But the scent hasn’t pleased me; I’ve used it three times and, unlike with difficult-to-digest fragrances, each time I use it I feel greater repulsion. It is very linear; it smells the same at the beginning as at the end. The oud note expresses that medicinal, smoky (musty) character, with a discrete floral note and a sweet-vanilla note that give it a very strong milky aspect, like the smell of cheese ripening, I don’t know, it reminds me a lot of the smell of a stable, even of fresh milk straight from the udder (here we call it raw milk). I don’t want to say it’s unpleasant, but it feels conflicting to keep smelling that old stable wood with milk that brings back memories of my adolescence on a farm. Perhaps I should wait for winter, use it at night in moments of relaxation, not for the office because the scent distracts me too much. I must give it more opportunities, I want to find a taste for it; I’ve tamed other beasts like One Man Show Gold, I must be able to do this one too!
@juanpasiones I’m in the same boat as you. I think the only way to wear it is to dab a tiny bit on the wrist to apply a woody scent over it. The solvent and tar notes of this oud are ultrasonic: they enter through the nose, go straight through the brain and exit at the nape of the neck. It should be called ‘Oud Waves’ XD. There are people who are fanatical about this type of scent… or perhaps some of us are just more sensitive to perceiving them. Good luck with your struggle to tame the beast!
I ordered it from the US with a friend. I had high expectations; it’s the small roll-on, like an oil. It has enviable power and longevity, but the aroma didn’t suit me at all. I’ve used it three times and, unlike other difficult fragrances, this one arouses more rejection each time. It’s very linear, smelling the same from start to finish. The oud note has a medicinal and musty character, with a discrete floral base and another sweet-vanilla undertone that gives it a very strong milky aspect, like the smell of curing cheese. It reminds me a lot of a stable, even of fresh milk straight from the udder (here in Mexico we call it ‘bronca’ milk). It’s not unpleasant, but it’s conflicting: it smells of old stable wood with milk, which brings back memories of my adolescence on a farm. Perhaps I should wait until winter, use it at night in moments of relaxation, because I wore it to the office and couldn’t concentrate; the scent distracted me too much. I need to give it more chances, I want to find a liking for it, I’ve already tamed other beasts like One Man Show Gold edition, I must be able to handle this one too!
I’m in the same boat and I think the key is to put a tiny dab on the wrist and cover it with another woody scent. The solvent and tar notes of this oud are ultrasonic: they enter through the nose, pass through the brain, and exit the nape of the neck. Oud Wave should be its name XD. There are fanatics of this type of scent… or perhaps some of us are just more sensitive to perceiving them. Good luck with your struggle to tame the beast!
Hello everyone, I wanted to write a review because some comments say this doesn’t smell of stable, sweat, lactic, or dairy farm as @JuanPasiones mentions. Sultan Al Oud is a woody, musky perfume with a slight touch of vanilla that makes it a good scent for any occasion; it is not invasive or unpleasant. To the people I have tried it on, it has never been disliked; they have loved it and even rubbed it onto their skin (the version I have tried and used is the roll-on oil). As with everything from AL-REHAB, this perfume has good longevity, trail, and projection. I understand that every nose is a world, but many comparisons seem wrong, such as comparing it to Black Afgano; there isn’t even a slight similarity. Well, there are people who review without having smelled the perfume and are content to leave their hatred on the page.
Hello everyone, I want to clarify that this perfume does not smell of stable, sweat, lactic, or dairy farm as @JuanPasiones mentions. Sultan Al Oud is woody, musky, with a touch of vanilla, ideal for any occasion. It is not invasive or unpleasant; those who have tried it have loved it so much they’ve rubbed it onto their skin (the roll-on version). As with everything from AL-REHAB, it has excellent longevity, trail, and projection. Every nose is a world, but many comparisons seem wrong, such as with Black Afgano, which shares no similarity whatsoever. There are people who review without even smelling it, leaving their hatred on the page.
Nothing like Black Afgano. If it resembles it at all, it’s only 40%, but the other Nasomatto is Pardon… The truth is, I sometimes use it for layering because, worn alone, it doesn’t have the power others expect.
Pure layering material. I mix it with Yves Rocher’s ‘Cuir de Nuit’ (cocoa, coffee, pink pepper, and vanilla) and the result is incredible. It gives this unisex scent with a feminine edge a touch of oriental-gourmet flair. After two hours, it smells of almond and chocolate with that soft, masculine oud. Separately, both are exquisite. Note: If you have an autumn-winter perfume and want that musky-oud base, buy it.
Ideal for layering. I mix it with Yves Rocher’s ‘Cuir de Nuit’ (cacao, coffee, pink pepper and vanilla) and the combination is brilliant. As a unisex scent with a feminine leaning, it adds an oriental-gourmet touch. In the first two hours, it smells like spreadable chocolate with a subtle, masculine trail of oud. On their own, both are exquisite. Tip: if you have an autumn/winter perfume and want that ambroxan-oud base, buy it without hesitation.
Powerful and good; I’ve been wearing it for years, layering it with other fragrances from the same brand.
A beast in terms of performance in a bottle 😂. There’s nothing to add. It’s perfect for the cold, though it does sound a bit cloying to me. Everyone who has tried it has loved it, and it has fascinated me too. 💯% recommended 🕉️🕉️🕉️
Bottle of oud, full stop. It’s an absolute beast in terms of longevity, perfect for the cold. I find it slightly sweet, but everyone who has tried it has loved it. Fascinating! 100% recommended 🕉️🕉️🕉️
