Olivier Pescheux, a distinguished perfumer born in France, devoted his life to the art of fragrance creation until his premature death on 10 July 2023, aged 57. His fascination with scents and artistic expression led him to study at ISIPCA, a prestigious perfumery school recognised worldwide for honing the skills of many well-known perfumers.
Pescheux’s career took him all over the world, starting in Bangkok in 1990, where he worked at Payan Bertrand, adding an international dimension to his work. After returning to Paris in 1992, he joined the eminent fragrance house Annick Goutal and later became part of Kao Corporation in 1993. In 1998, his career saw a significant step up when he joined Givaudan, one of the leading fragrance and flavour companies worldwide, where he remained professionally until his death.
As a testament to his mastery of the craft, Pescheux achieved the rank of Master Perfumer, creating distinctive aromas for esteemed brands such as Dior, Montblanc, Armani, Valentino, Paco Rabanne and Diptyque. Some of his best-known creations are Paco Rabanne 1 Million, Montblanc Explorer, Parfums de Marly Herod, Montblanc Legend, Versace Eros Flame and Yves Rocher Voile d’Ambre.
Pescheux was renowned for his passionate yet practical approach to perfume creation. His talent for “sculpting” raw materials into exquisite aromas, combined with his ability to balance traditional techniques with contemporary innovation, set him apart in the industry. His portfolio, diverse in genres and styles, reflected his tireless drive for exploration and olfactory innovation.
Pescheux’s olfactory inspirations were significantly influenced by his time in Asia. The vibrant aromas of Thai cuisine, the comforting scents of Japanese tea and the serene atmosphere of Zen gardens deeply influenced his creative vision.
Throughout his illustrious career, Pescheux had the privilege of working alongside some of the most respected perfumers in the industry, which contributed to his deep understanding of the fragrance market.
