Horizon by Davidoff

Doesn’t resemble TDH much, to be honest. Perhaps the vetiver offers a clue, but while the original keeps the orange note going for quite a while, Horizon is citrusy without being orange; it smells more of ginger and grapefruit, and is less earthy. I tested both at the same time and although I liked both, I recognise that TDH is more classic and elegant, whereas Horizon feels more common, mind you, without being a bad perfume. In both, the vetiver is at full volume, but in my opinion it is more noticeable in Horizon; in TDH it is more disguised by the orange. If you can get it at a good price, grab a bottle: it smells clean, familiar and has a decent longevity, perfect for daily wear.

I don’t know; perhaps I was sold something defective or a fake, but it’s a non-existent fragrance, almost without any scent. Forget about projection or trail. A real fiasco.

They say the capo’s assistant always keeps a silk suit in the wardrobe. While waiting for his moment, he goes for the normal, what corresponds to him in that position, or what he decides to use to assume his subordinate situation with intelligence and security. Horizon is that suit: it waits its time and, meanwhile, does not renounce emitting mystery and respect that puts people on guard, without stridency, towards those who wear it. It is sombre without being lugubrious, of a measured gravity without reaching the imposingness of great agreements like Gucci Guilty Absolute. The tangerine and ginger are responsible for its serene majesty at the start: a beginning with an invasive but totally friendly character, of versatility beyond doubt. The touches of nutmeg, cedar and patchouli consistently complete the composition. The vetiver seals the restrained design of this fragrance. Regarding longevity and projection, the classic questions: well, both are moderate, but the excellent price-performance ratio makes that not a problem worth considering. I recommend the beautiful 40 ml bottle with frosted glass edges (a delight to the touch), to carry it in the blazer pocket or the bag of your choice and reapply the fragrance at will. Young people who want to leave the virgin lands of CK One and access more robust paths of essences, without falling into the error of believing that perfumery started with 1 Million and the whole vanilla and gourmand cohort, should turn to Horizon by Davidoff. It will serve as a good guide for the stormy journey they have just begun.

I bought a tester of this perfume two years ago, the 100 ml one was recommended to me and it was a blind buy. What can I say? It is an exquisite aroma, with an extraordinary balance and those notes that generate elegance. Its weak point is longevity: it lasted on my skin perhaps an hour, its dry-down is not its strong point either. Perhaps I will give the Extreme version a chance, but I will not buy this one again.

Fantastic perfume! Is it similar to Terre d’Hermes? Yes, but it’s friendlier. The TDH has that sour orange that I don’t like much; this smells more like grapefruit, less intrusive. I like the TDH, but Horizon appealed to me more for being more versatile: I used it today at 30 degrees and it worked perfectly with just 3 sprays. It comes out strong, the vetiver is well-executed, and upon drying, the wood and cocoa are noticeable. In Argentina, the 125ml bottle is half the price of the TDH. I recommend it if you prefer something versatile! Projection is very good, longevity is easily 6 hours. A hater (Sloan arg) says it’s old and doesn’t last… I tested a genuine one for you. Review what you like, but don’t lie about the longevity. I promise to edit and attach the batch so they can’t say false things. We must encourage trying it! If you don’t like it, no harm done. A fragrance designed in the full 21st century with all the generic retro splendour of the 80’s. It is not for blind buys (like in my case). Perfumes do not have age, but olfactory memory often relates an age more than once. If you want to smell like a 60-year-old gentleman in full 2021, this is the indicated fragrance. There is a leather note that is not declared and is quite annoying. Despite being strong in its opening, it has very sterile longevity and projection (like the vast majority of Davidoff perfumes). Apologies to those who like this fragrance, but it is an honest review from my part and compilation of opinions from the dozen people who told me things like: ‘you smell old’, ‘big man’, ‘you smell like my eldest uncle in the family’ or ‘your perfume reminds me of my grandfather’, etc, etc, etc… (it seems I was not the only one who perceived that ‘vintage imprint’).

It’s true, it smells like Terre d’Hermes: the orange and vetiver give that sensation of a ripe, slightly past citrus with an elegant earthy touch. It’s much softer than the TH, stands out in casual gatherings or formal settings. The projection is subtle but always present; it sits beautifully on clothes. In short: mature, semi-formal and soft. Fans of the TH will love it; others might not take to that sour orange.

I tried it and liked it. It has a Terre d’Hermes touch: fresh, aromatic, green with a sweet base. The vetiver is the star, it delivers and it’s affordable. Scent 8, trail 7, longevity 6, price 10.

As others say, it’s affordable and doesn’t smell bad, but it stays there. It’s herbal and citrusy, highlighting only the grapefruit and rosemary. Acceptable duration, about five hours, then it drops and stays right on the skin. I wouldn’t buy it again; I picked it up on a deal for 125ml. It’s morning wear, unpretentious, perfect for the office.

It deserves a review because it’s economical yet doesn’t smell cheap. It’s not a powerhouse, but it performs very well. The scent isn’t linear; it has development. It smells fresh, clean, and citrusy, with wood and a touch of spice; as it dries down, it seems sweet. Perfect for everyday wear. I use it when I’m unsure what to put on—it’s liked, non-intrusive, dynamic, and never boring: a reliable workhorse. It lasts 5-7 hours on mild or warm days, projecting modestly for the first 1-2 hours. Reminiscent of Terre d’Hermes, Alliance Epice, and Natura Homem Especiarias.

What a wonderful surprise! Reminds me a lot of Moschino Pour Homme (they share cedar and rosemary) and has a hint of L’Insense de Givenchy (mandarin and lavender transformed into vetiver). Ideal for a cloudy autumn afternoon, something intense, as if to give meaning to a fantastic forest of cedars, spices and vetiver. The citrus lasts little, the rosemary sustains the spices and the patchouli lets the vetiver peek through. The finish is slightly powdery but nothing feminine thanks to the cocoa bean. It’s formal but only up to a point; in the end, it doesn’t need a tie, just like the model in the advert. Excellent price/quality ratio; with an hour more of longevity it would be a classic.

Horizon… what a delightful surprise! Those who went before summarised it all. This beautiful bottle is an effluvium of spiced freshness: after an energising citrus opening, it settles into a spice combo that my nose finds very gratifying. It feels classic but doesn’t smell outdated; the ginger note renews the fragrance, giving it a fresh air as it evolves with that mix of spices and cedar that make it warmer. I detect rosemary, clean citrus notes, vivifying ginger, cedar and, to a lesser extent, nutmeg. It deserves a place in the collection. Irrisibly priced given its accessibility and performance; it has decent yield on my skin.

Elegant, sober, with a classic style but not outdated. Suitable for any formal occasion, it performs best in cool weather though it works very well in heat too. Highly versatile and balanced, with excellent trail and longevity. It’s spectacular for events and work meetings, matching perfectly with elegant attire or smart casual wear. I recommend having it in your collection!
