Amouage’s Royal Tobacco is my favourite perfume; it’s certainly complex and not to everyone’s taste. That’s why I thought Arabic brands hadn’t dared to attempt a clone yet until French Avenue stepped up. I was pleased but also received it with scepticism. Royal Tobacco is a genuine marvel, and you have to do things very, very well to even come close to it. Well, now that I’ve bought, oxidised, and worn it, I say these from French Avenue have pulled off a masterstroke. But as it is. I have serious doubts about restocking the Amouage because this Opus Magnum is so well-made. It doesn’t reach the same heights of quality and nuance, nor is it a direct 1:1. But jeez, it’s a treat. Incense, licorice, and sweetened tobacco. Projection is good to very good for two hours, with about eight hours of longevity (being conservative). In short, it has captivated me, especially given how little I expected. A real job well done by this Arabic house.

An explosion of licorice upon spraying, very liquorish, to which a dry smoke is added within minutes—the smoke of cigarette ash. This phase lasts a bit longer, and gradually the rest of the notes emerge: basil, tobacco, and licorice take the lead, letting the others shine through perfectly. A very good perfume with great evolution and outstanding performance. It’s challenging but addictive. Highly recommended for the price.

The resemblance to the original is striking, even without considering the astronomical price difference. That said, just like the original, it smells of ash, an ashtray, and nicotine (the grey of the bottle even represents that).
I agree 100% with ZENOF’s review; it’s perfect and faultless. I’d just add that it’s a pure, exquisite, liquorish, smoky, and semi-sweet licorice scent that, over time, hints at tobacco. I don’t think it’s a good clone of the Amouage one, but as a perfume, it’s absolutely delicious and projects strongly for the first two hours. Afterwards, the intensity drops but it doesn’t disappear thanks to its excellent longevity. It stays in my collection because it’s unique and very rich. For me, it’s not disruptive or difficult (though please note that the only scents that put me off are BR540 and ERBA PURA; just thinking about wearing them again makes me ill, so I wouldn’t recommend buying blind even though it worked well for me). It doesn’t feel cheap or synthetic.
I subscribe to everything ZENOF says; he’s written a flawless and very accurate review, nothing to add, but I’d emphasise that this is primarily a licorice fragrance. An exquisite, liquorish, smoky, and semi-sweet licorice that, over time, hints at tobacco. I don’t think it’s a good clone of the Amouage one, but I love it as a perfume; it’s delicious and enjoyable. Furthermore, it projects very well for the first two hours before losing intensity, though it doesn’t abandon us because it has excellent skin longevity. Yes, it stays in my collection; it’s different and very rich. Personally, I don’t see it as disruptive or difficult (but please note that the only perfumes that put me off are BR540 and ERBA PURA; just thinking about wearing them again makes me ill, so I can’t recommend buying blind even though it worked well for me). It doesn’t feel cheap or synthetic.
