  Every Fueguía perfume is a first-class olfactory journey; the ideal approach is to visit a boutique and try the vast range with knowledgeable, unhurried consultants, because the visit itself is an experience. The Other Tiger comes from the Literature collection, inspired by a Borges poem about the fatal tiger and its routine of love, leisure, or death in Sumatra or Bengal, evoking for me an indefinite, ancient adventure. Officially, it’s a primary animal family with secondary leather, highlighting civet as the tonal note, dominant musk, and secondary ambergris. To my nose, the opening features ambrette, muscone, and muscenone that mimic natural musk but are more pleasant, balancing attraction, seduction, and wildness without being overwhelming. Then Julián Bedel seems to play with nudges, a touch of oud, sandalwood, and Madagascar vanilla to create something enveloping, sensual, and impactful in an oriental style. I think it’s very masculine, but if a woman layers it with something floral like rose or amber, it becomes an irresistible beast. One of Fueguía 1833’s strengths is its perfectly crafted musks and ambers. This fragrance is meant to leave a mark and seduce, but it’s best to try it first, as they only produce 400 bottles a year and each vintage can vary slightly. It’s from 2010, the same year Fueguía was founded, a name paying homage to Fueguía Basket, the Tierra del Fuego native girl kidnapped by Fitz Roy and taken to Europe, who wasn’t recognised by her people upon her return. They’re expensive, but top-tier quality; it’s better to buy a 30ml bottle than to waste money on copycat perfumes that spend on advertising rather than ingredients, the exact opposite of this house, which prioritises quality.
