Descripción

Iris Nazarena by Aedes de Venustas is a musky floral woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2013, the nose behind this creation is Ralf Schwieger. The top notes unfold iris, juniper berries, ambrette musk and star anise; the heart reveals leather, rose, cloves and oud wood; while the base notes complete the composition with incense, woody notes, vetiver and amber.

  • Beneath an intense heart, rose, plenty of leather, and soft oud round out the accord. The base is a powerful iris, talc-musky, with a smoky touch from the incense. A soft, sweet amber dry-down turns it towards the feminine. It’s a lovely Aedes structure. Not fresh, but not heavy; it’s an airy, dry, talc-wooded scent, far from the typical Middle Eastern style where rose and oud dominate. The evolution is subtle, almost linear. Good quality, good longevity and projection. It conveys a solemn and relaxed air. Skin effect is very good. Rating: 6.5.

  • Its story is fascinating: made from iris rhizomes from the mountains east of Nazareth, it only appears every five years until stock runs out. I bought it when it returned after being discontinued. It’s a green/vegetal, dry, and earthy iris, something few houses dare to touch. Accompanied by black currants, musk, leather, incense, and spices. The result is imposing: the dry iris leads, the leather is elegant, and the spices extend that dry sensation. All wrapped in incense, with an amber and clove finish that reminds me of aged orange. A balance between coldness and warmth. Perhaps it’s too cold for the average person, but for me, it’s my definitive iris, a composition that touches perfection and transports you to those arid climates of Nazareth. Winner of several awards in New York.

  • Wow! This dry, hard yet subtle beast has stolen my heart. Notes of iris, charcoal-ironed laundry, smoke, leather, mouldy woods, and vegetal musk. I don’t recognise the rose. It’s neither politically correct nor nostalgic like L’Heure, nor modern like Dior Homme. It’s complex and resolutely natural: it smells of flower, earth, and forest, and of the dry clothes of the one who cut them. Lasts five hours, potent at first. The dry-down is linear, particularly the iris, leather, and smoke. So well-rounded and high-quality that it leaves no one indifferent. It’s a complete olfactory experience. Aedes and Iris have configured a new perfume lover, more mature and open-minded.

An iris that would recall the planning of a Dior Homme Essence. Well made, well constructed, but like the hardworking student who passes without drawing attention.

Ugh… I don’t even want to beat around the bush. It’s one of the most beautiful and elegant fragrances I’ve ever tried. If you like iris, buy it without hesitation; you’ll be hooked. Now that I own it, it simply must be in my bag.

Ufff… I don’t even want to ramble. It is one of the most beautiful and elegant scents I have ever smelled. If you like iris, go for it without hesitation. Now that I know it, I cannot do without it.

I received a decant and I will be brutally honest: I don’t like it at all. I thought I would love iris, but this smells industrial, like factory fertiliser. It has no evolution; it smells the same at two minutes as it does at thirty. To me, it has as much femininity as a pair of Real Madrid briefs. It’s not that I find it repulsive, simply it doesn’t enter my nose. Scent: 4, longevity: 7.5, sillage: 7. Price: 225 euros/100ml.

My mother’s decant finally arrived, and after testing it on blotter and skin, I have a very personal take: I absolutely hate it. Perhaps I just don’t connect with iris as I thought. It’s a scent that reminds me of nothing and is hard to define; I’m not saying it’s a masterpiece, but it just didn’t work on my nose. It smells very green, almost industrial, like a fertiliser factory. It has no development, smelling the same at two minutes as it does at thirty. I’m not repulsed, I just dislike it. To me, whether unisex or masculine, it’s as feminine as a Real Madrid pair of knickers. Versatile, extremely versatile. Scent: 4. Longevity: 7.5. Sillage: 7. Price: €225/100ml.

  • Although the name suggests something religious, there’s no classic powdery iris here. It reminds me of that Ganymede DNA: mineral air, elegant and ethereal. It features a suede-like leather, like a brand-new premium leather shoebox, with a rich, modern molecular base. It’s dry, green, and super-refined, with a soapy touch that gives cleanliness. The best part is that it stays airy without losing presence, with brutal performance. A distinct iris, very elegant and with its own personality. A niche icon worthy of its awards.
