  This is a beast… I’ve tried all of Aedes’ fragrances, and this alongside Iris Nazarena were my favourites: they smell subtle yet possess otherworldly strength. If not worn well, they can be overwhelming, but they are incredible. Although at $200 each, it’s a lot of money, even for a perfume addict. Notes of spiced wood, hot cinnamon and freshly waxed furniture, green sweat, ancient and musty wood; it smells of history and centuries. It is timeless, precious and balanced thanks to the sweet patchouli. Although it seems more masculine, the wood is so well-crafted that it doesn’t overwhelm, and a bold woman can wear it without fear of smelling anything non-sweet, non-fruity or floral. It’s not fresh or jovial; it’s a winter scent that reminded me of the beauty of Femenite du bois, minus the plum drama that saves it from being a perfume for men made for women. Six perfect hours on skin, three compliments in the first few hours, and I have a 5ml decant that I treasure as a wonderful gift.

  Started with an opening that caught me slightly off-kilter, something damp and confusing, but then the dry-down arrives and it’s pure magic: it becomes as sweet as soft taffy, yet remains woody. The longevity is brutal; I applied it at 6 pm and by 11 am the next day, I could still smell it right up against my skin.
