Incense and palo santo. I tested it several times before buying it, not because it displeased me, but because it evokes a challenging and uncommon scent. A few weeks ago, I dared and got it at a good price. It evokes fields, wood, smoke, and dimensions that get lost between the city’s concrete. In summary, it is very smoky and natural incense melted with woody touches, mainly fresh green cedar wood. The oud is vestigial but adds something. It is not very versatile; it is better for cold climates and winter. I see it as a night scent due to its dark nuances, but above all it requires style and elegant clothing. Do not expect compliments, but do expect to notice a very special, unique, pleasant, and distinguished scent. It has excellent longevity, of ten hours or more, with moderate projection for the first two hours. Then it stays close to the skin but is notable at short distances. It smells natural and pleasant, reminding me of incense at Catholic festivities and the smell of palo santo at craft fairs. A fragrance worthy of good use, very unique and for personal enjoyment.
Yes! Finally, I am enjoying the Gucci Pour Homme I again. It projects and lasts just as well; this fragrance is for pure personal enjoyment. It opens slightly spicier than GPHI, but after 5 minutes it is hard to differentiate them. I had been saving the remainder of my Gucci because I love taking off the cap and smelling it, until I found this Bentley Absolute. I also tried Comme des Garçons 2; it is of the same style but by different paths; this one goes down the same road as Gucci, its natural substitute: wood, incense, scorched cedar. What a genius…
If you want to smell this without owning one, take a piece of wood, remove the tip, smell the shavings, and add a little incense; that is how this Bentley smells.
Bentley For Men Absolute: every time I smell it, I fall in love with it more and more, feeling the urge to buy another in case it is discontinued. It is an olfactory marvel, a collection of woods like firewood passed through fire mixed with incense, creating an intoxicating smoky part. It is a genuine delight, ideal for night and cold weather; it offers warmth and peculiar masculine elegance. Only enjoy it if you like dark, virile, and sombre class aromas. It is similar to the acclaimed Gucci Pour Homme I. Projection: between the first two hours, then drops but remains there. Longevity: 6 hours. Use: nocturnal and formal. Recommended.
The scent evolves quickly: pepper and ginger last a breath, then it moves to burnt wood and settles into something mysterious and masculine, very close to the skin in ten minutes. Longevity and projection are its weak points; after 15 minutes, you only notice it by pressing your nose against it. It is rich, but I do not recommend it due to poor performance. If you like woody, burnt, and incense perfumes, by far choose Encre Noire Al Extreme!
Opening with a slight resemblance to For Men, some woods, and a very timid oud that add elegance and focus it towards a mature audience. A totally linear fragrance. In my opinion, it is the most mediocre of the Bentley house, being an admirer of For Men and Intense. It smells of a powerful man, but it only serves for personal enjoyment; its projection and trail are about half an hour. For the price and the effort to get it here in Chile, it is not worth it. I prefer the Benetton Colors Black, a similar aroma, at a third of the price but with more trail and longevity.
It is incredible how a fragrance can transport you through olfactory memory. Five minutes after spraying myself, this took me back to those bonfires on the beach where we burned eucalyptus leaves and the small ‘coconuts’ they drop. The scent is magnificent, elegant, and stately, not suitable for teenagers. Thank you, Bentley, for making me travel with this perfume.
Spectacular. Incredibly, it is my fragrance that receives the most compliments. From my perspective as a novice with two years of collecting, it is very simple and linear. After a few minutes, it smells of super-realistic cedar (as if you were smelling sawdust) and spices like cumin. Nothing more. The pepper note is minimal and only present in the opening. I find it very versatile; I often wear it at work. I have other more appropriate scents for nights or parties.
I had smelled this before… I bought it because people say it smells like the Gucci Pour Homme. As I had never owned one, I searched until I found this Bentley version. I like it, but if this is what the Gucci smells like, there is an Avon Premiere Luxe Oud for under £20 that smells identical. At first, it is a bomb of incense and woods; perhaps the oud is softened by the incense, but it is noticeable, just like the other woods. Over time, the woods gain strength and a spicy note of pepper and ginger appears. The dry down is a delicious woody amber. It is almost identical to the Avon one, but this Bentley version seems more long-lasting: it drops from a bomb to moderate in minutes and lasts over 6 hours before fading. It is good; if the Gucci smells the same, it hurts to pay what they ask. Those who love it can look for the identical substitute at Avon.
Top pick for autumn and winter: a smoky wood bomb with a sweet, creamy touch. Very masculine, sober, and elegant. Ideal for evening wear, though it works well during the day in office settings if you control the sprays, as it is quite potent. The longevity and trail are notable; 4-5 sprays are more than enough for a full day, while 3 suffice for short dates. The quality-to-price ratio is excellent, typical of the brand. Highly recommended if you enjoy woody scents. Note: 9/10.
I just bought this fragrance blind to replace the discontinued Gucci Pour Homme I. After applying it and seeing its evolution after an hour my impression is that they have a great resemblance to what I remember of GPHI. I had GPHI years ago and it is now hard to see it in shop windows. Although Bentley Absolute seems simpler they share notes and keep the spirit: sensations of old papyrus pencil shavings and creamy sandalwood at the end. The nonsensical note of Gucci I is there very subtle but distinct. I understand that it lacks declared notes as the chemical composition has citral and limonene (citrus in the opening) and geraniol (floral masculine) to make it more agreeable. Obviously Bentley Absolute is much more complex than it appears. I would say they are between 90% and 95% similar to Gucci I. Excellent work by Michael Almairac.
Before knowing this perfume I thought there were only three ways to cry: from laughter from sadness and from chopping an onion. But after smelling this EDP I have cried. It smells of old age of someone in holy oils. The golden bottle and that smell of incense and myrrh make me believe it is an olfactory recreation of the Magi. I could define it as Arab for a Taliban with wide beards and black robes aged 60 or more. It is comparable to the incense of the Lord of Miracles. In conclusion a scent that recalls holy mass the nourishment of God death and the Middle East. Use it if you are older than a Galápagos tortoise. Scent: 3 Projection: 10 Sillage: 10 Longevity: more than 10 hours (if you don’t bathe for a week the smell is surely still there after seven days).
Smells like woods and burnt resins. It doesn’t last or project. Next… What a disappointment.
Love it; it’s a nod to the super expensive Gucci. Unfortunately the projection and longevity are weak lasting only 3 to 3.5 hours and being very discreet. It doesn’t project at all for an EDP although it feels strong at first before fading. Even if I overapply it ten times it’s noticeable but not intense. They say Lalique batches are the worst and Art & Fragrance are the best. My batch is from 2021 under Lalique… But the scent is very elegant. Luckily I got it for $30; the Gucci is more concentrated. I definitely recognised the smell from when I was a teenager. Scent: 10 Projection: 3 Longevity: 3 Value: 7.
Fell in love with Bentley Intense and bought this fragrance based on the reviews and high rating. I expected better quality… The oud note is too synthetic and like the Intense once it dries down you notice the poor quality of the ingredients. On the plus side the opening is pleasant and refined but only the opening because as it develops it loses quality. I had to give it away as I couldn’t wear it. It smells cheap… The person I gave it to sometimes wears it and I think: how glad I am that I gave it away.
Another success by Michael Almairac. I thought it would be by Natalie Lorson like the other Bentleys, but the M.A. signature is clear. Here, the woods and incense separate from the Man and Intense lines. Hard to say which is better; they are different and for different occasions. This ‘Absolute’ version is for me, for rare moments like before bed or taking photos in the woods. Once I wore it to a wedding and felt very distinguished. It’s not for people saying ‘you smell nice’, but rather ‘who smells like incense?’. It reminds me of the interior of the incense burner in Santiago Cathedral. Don’t buy it blindly or if you’re under 30. For autumn and winter. Price-to-quality ratio: excellent, as with almost everything from Bentley.
I tried 2 Man by CDG and although they share some similarities, they don’t smell the same. 2 Man smells like a lit candle; it doesn’t convince me. Bentley smells much better and costs three times less.
A real treat for personal enjoyment. My friends and ex don’t like it, but I love that dark, smoky touch. I wear it for the shops, a walk, or in bed, not for the gym. The downside is it doesn’t last and projects very little. Batch 2021 from Lalique. Lasts a bit longer on clothes but fades quickly.
Batches from 2020 onwards last less than three hours on the skin. Look for ones that aren’t from Lalique. Cheers.
Smells of smoky woods, but the reformulation has killed the performance. Best to spend the money on something else.
It was my incense scent with a woody, piney forest touch, a favourite among designer fragrances. Watch out, it’s not challenging at all. Although it is a designer scent (Bentley makes luxury cars, period) and low-cost, under 50 euros for 100ml, it seems like niche aroma, with dark nuances, smoky frankincense obscurities (olibanum or frankincense) that bring it closer to Arabic and Oriental perfumery, mixed with woody notes, mainly cedar, and a very marked and persistent smell of pine needles, i.e., the Mediterranean pine needle (here they call it ‘Egyptian papyrus’. Pure pine needles, mate). This Bentley For Men Absolute is a commercial fragrance, of majority will, although perfumer Michel Almairac and the masters of the Lalique-Bentley house knew it wouldn’t be like the rest of their catalogue. This would be a hedonist, mature, special scent. It also carries woody notes in the base, though barely noticeable. The oud reviewed in base notes, I don’t notice it. It enjoys, like other Bentley fragrances, an economical price (something to be grateful for), although it’s not found in all generalist perfume shops, at least in Spain. The ‘problems’ with this Bentley For Men Absolute are two. One, the little versatility it has. Logically, smelling like a dry forest and a church all the time isn’t very wearable. And two, the poor performance of its recent batches. The perfume manufacturer, which makes it for the car company Bentley, the French Lalique Group, since 2020 has reduced the longevity significantly. Another disaster due to reformulations. I have a 2022 batch and on my skin it doesn’t last long, a maximum of 2-3 hours, with quite regular trail and projection. I have to spray a lot to notice it or be noticed, and watch out, it will only be at 30 cm for about 10 minutes. If you are one of the lucky ones with an old batch or happen to find an old one… enjoy it. A pity because as they say, it was a cannon in longevity that ate many nichos with potatoes. Watch out, I see this perfume as unisex but I think it will please men more than women. And given its aromatic characteristics, I don’t think it’s for everyone. Never buy it blindly. It’s not commercial and isn’t in fashion today. It has a mature, nocturnal vibe, for fresh temperatures, autumn-winter. A serious, formal, mature, elegant scent and certainly, mysterious and quasi-mystical. I doubt it will please young people, under 30-35 years old, if they aren’t very used to minority, challenging, niche perfumery, or if they are expert collectors.
Going from back to front: the dry-down of resin, wood, and oud (an unlisted smoky touch, surely frankincense) gives it an original, sexy masculine character, worthy of a scent bordering on niche, or going beyond the mainstream and commercial. This is elegant, yet ‘dark’ or serious; I don’t mean boring at all, those characteristics found in other fragrances like Gucci Guilty Absolute or YSL M7. Here it’s all woods and resins, which soften very timidly with that amber, and the singular Egyptian papyrus with its almost fresh herbal touch is also present (a less known note that has its own thing). Something Tommy Hilfiger Impact Intense also explores, but that one has perhaps a more youthful and simple vibe, also being a woody with resins. In its time, I think it was almost a cheapie; today, on the brink of unjust extinction, perhaps it was never valued enough. It’s part of the very good Bentley For Men family, which have good creative noses behind their scents; this is no exception. I tried it a long time ago and am returning today to appreciate it better, seriously evaluating buying the bottle before the announced death (discontinued). It’s true, it’s one of those fragrances that hunts better on certain skins and for tastes rather than others; with me, it clicked. The perfume isn’t about projection, but it’s fine as is; the wearer perceives it perfectly. It’s not of the loud or luminous vibes, for walking around shouting ‘here I am’. The performance is correct and the price, still accessible and in line with the price-quality-scent ratio. I recommend testing it with a sample; it’s one of those scents that makes you want it and reveals its virtues gradually, concluding that it is indeed worth getting. I can’t guarantee if it’s discontinued; my bottle is a tester with a manufacturing date from last year. Try it and look for it.
I was so eager to try it! I wanted to try it because reviews compared it to the lost jewel Gucci Pour Homme. And yes, right from the opening, Gucci comes to mind, without a doubt. It smells wonderful. But of course, Gucci was less synthetic and had better performance. But hey, at the price it can be found, making your memory travel back to that golden era of Gucci… it’s well worth it.
If you like oud, that woody aroma, and that spark of incense, get it. It’s a beast, an intense and explosive olfactory experience dominated by woody notes. However, you must know it’s not for everyone; it’s a challenge and I’d say it sits on the ‘niche’ line. To reiterate, if you appreciate oud, this is the perfume for you. The scent is as masculine as it gets, leaning towards an atmosphere of an elegant office or a luxury car with leather seats, and that vibe of authority because it has such a strong presence. A tremendous perfume!
I never got to try the Gucci, but this reminds me a great deal of Khashab Al Oud by Bait Al Bakoor, except that Bentley smells much more approachable, both in the opening and the dry-down. It isn’t as dry and harsh as the Arabic perfume; it’s far more wearable. What does this mean? In the opening, it smells much less of burnt wood smoke and has a touch more sandalwood. It’s rounder, lacking that musky nuance that could be off-putting, instead offering a powdery facet that I appreciate because it always smells clean. The projection is decent for now; we’ll see how it behaves in the cold. I don’t see it for hot days; it suits the season well. I won’t assign an age group because everyone smells what they wish, but to me, it smells even youthful, despite not being that typical citrus freshness of the last decade. It doesn’t smell vintage at all. In bursts, it can feel slightly sweet. It’s a handsome fragrance, not smelling too common yet not quite reaching niche status. It isn’t innovative and yet smells very good. Full woods and frankincense. EDIT: Poor, very poor longevity. A shame because it smells so well. 8/10.
This smells more mature than Bentley Intense. It is less alcoholic and more focused on woods and incense, especially in the first three hours. In terms of longevity and projection, it falls short compared to the Intense; I would say it lasts 20-25% less. The scent is pleasant to me, perhaps not very versatile for a young man; I struggle to see it on someone under 40. In summary, I expected more strength and longevity, but at 30€, I find it interesting. I give it a 6.5 out of 10.
I am rewriting this now that I have a better nose and more experience with these notes: it is a fragrance of dark woods that initially, in the atomiser, tends towards the dirty; some friends say it smells of sweat, but nothing like that happens to me. I like it quite a bit; it is elegant and dark, with an incense that awakens it and gives it a touch of spirituality. I believe as it evolves it becomes cleaner and more enjoyable. It is a personal bubble scent with low sillage; the performance leaves something to be desired, but at a good price it is worth having. If you are a fan of woods, you will love this.
Warm incense wood, exquisite. A total delight. However, I prefer the Intense version.
Forget Gucci Pour Homme; there is no comparison. I bought it based on the rumour of similarity and the same creator. Truth be told, it does recall it, but only after half an hour once the initial pepper note settles. Bentley stays as dry pepper and burnt eucalyptus smoke; it lacks the vetiver, leather, lily, clove, and that incense present in the original masterpiece. It is understandable that Almairac did not wish to tarnish a work of art with this, having better plans for his prodigal son like Papyrus Oud. I have liked it; it brings back good memories, but its performance is weak: 4-6 hours on skin with no projection. I wanted it for personal use, so it does not matter to me.
I used Gucci Pour Homme (2003) in winter, and when it disappeared, I had to look for this. When it arrived and I tested it, I nearly cried with emotion. It is not 100% Gucci, but it is 95%. Furthermore, it lasts around 8-10 hours. People say I smell good, so thank you, Bentley.
Michel Almairac created Gucci pour Homme in 2003 and 11 years later created this Bentley Absolute. If you’re not willing to pay the price for one of the four horses by Tom Ford back in the Gucci era, buy this one, they’re practically the same and same creator, obviously.
I had been thinking about buying this perfume for almost a year. Postponing it mostly because it could be similar to Graphite by Claude Montana. And wow, what a surprise, they’re not similar at all. Just for the sake of the cedar. But the rest, this Bentley is a jewel of perfumery. Very resinous, incense and woods. It feels very warm and has a fantastic evolution. As all perfumes should. This has life, as if it were a story of the same scent. With a spectacular longevity that accompanies you for 8-10 hours. There’s no need to smell close to the skin because you move and you feel it. The only drawback I see is its exclusive use for cold days and something formal. It doesn’t feel like a youthful perfume nor much less sport. Fantastic perfume, a 9/10. I don’t give it a 10 only because I’m more of a fan of fresh perfumes. But this Bentley Absolute I liked a lot.
Bentley for Men Absolute is a fragrance of sober, almost authoritarian construction, which presents itself from the first instant with an intensely dry and woody opening. The start is sharp, marked by a woody accord dominated by dark and smoky woods, wrapped in a veil of incense that evokes ancient temples and oak libraries aged. Ginger appears as an aromatic nerve, contributing a spicy effervescence that briefly dynamises the whole before yielding to the more grave character of the composition. There is also a discreet herbal nuance, almost medicinal, that contributes to the austere tone of the fragrance. It doesn’t seek to seduce with flourishes or theatrical evolutions: after its powerful opening, it stabilises quickly into a heart phase that blends with the base, without great twists or surprises. This linear behaviour, far from being a defect, results in coherence with its olfactory discourse: what it offers from the beginning is exactly what it proposes to be, a firm declaration, without hesitation or concessions. As for its performance, its initial projection is notable, but its trail folds back with certain speed towards the skin, where it remains more contained than desired, at least in my case. This loss of intensity limits its reach, although it doesn’t affect its intimate presence, which remains rotund for those who get close enough. It’s not a perfume thought to please everyone, nor does it pretend to be. Its construction aims at an audience with an already educated olfactory palate, people who don’t seek approval but coherence. It evokes a man of sober intellect and impeccable manners, perhaps the president of a bar association: elegant, distant, self-assured, owner of a mature masculinity that doesn’t need adornments or unnecessary gestures. It could also be the scent of a gentleman on an autumn outing with his partner of years, a consolidated relationship where there’s no need to impress, but simply to enjoy the complicity of shared silence. Bentley for Men Absolute doesn’t conquer; it imposes respect. It’s a fragrance of emotional maturity, of aesthetic sobriety, of those that seem to speak little but say much.
Simple, the pepper and leather feel strong. Some people like it, others don’t. It’s for cold days. It resembles Cartier.
If you want to smell like a freshly used pencil sharpener, this is for you. I didn’t like that shavings smell when you sharpen a pencil; for now I prefer the Intense. I’m not saying it’s a bad fragrance, but it’s very niche to be commercial. I don’t recommend buying blindly, but if you’re a collector, it’s worth it for its price.
Wow, cold down it’s something spectacular, a scent of dark woods and incense. No, no, this is the essence of man, incredibly rich. I’ve had the bottle for about two years, I just sprayed it again and damn, what a thing so masculine but without seeming old. If you already have good experience with different scents and prefer those not very challenging but with personality and distinction from those very sweet or youthful ones, this does give you a punch of masculinity. You must like woods if you want to try it.
I loved it. This perfume smells of lots of wood. It’s a perfumed personality piece you can use to make a presence at a business meeting or a romantic date, but it should always be accompanied by formal attire. It’s very masculine and can help you project yourself as someone who has already resolved many things in life, even the financial part. Perhaps it’s not the maximum compliment generator (there are perfumes that don’t have that mission), I recommend it to make a presence with class and opulence. Despite having a strong trail, it’s not a beast-mode perfume, but it’s strong in character and personality.
Exclusively for lovers of old-school woody and spicy perfumes. Its overwhelming opening is already a declaration of intent. A slap of black pepper to the nose that is very likely to make you sneeze, so I’m warning you in advance. The wood could be described as solemn and robust, like dampened tree trunks surrounded by the rest of varied wood scents in a sawmill. Its target audience is very specific: mature men with serious character and strong personality, perhaps not the most sociable, who wear it with a certain tone of elegance and sobriety, as a way of marking distances, maybe. I don’t know its current price. I remember buying it in 2020 or 2021 and back then it was around €30. It’s probable that its value has increased nowadays.
It’s not normal for something to be worth what it is, offer so little, and then be discontinued. What remains is what remains, and when it’s gone, goodbye. There’s a review claiming it smells like sharpening a pencil, and yes, basically that’s it, but even darker. The opening is pepper, followed immediately by the darkness of incense alongside that realistic, rough scent of dry wood. The longevity and trail are contained, but the pleasure it gives and the peace it brings after a shower is a real treat. If you add that it costs €24, is made by Lalique, the perfumer is a genius, and wanted to recall his famous Gucci pour Homme, plus that quality finish of the metallic packaging, you get a smile from ear to ear. This is very different from everything I own because it’s introspective, ceremonial, and even shamanic. Recommended yes or no, but don’t buy blindly or if… 😂😂
Pffff, it smells like a church, Holy Week, and Seville in spring. Tremendously dark and solemn. I love it because it’s totally different from what’s out there now; if I had to find a similarity, I’d say it recalls Boss Bottle Elixir due to that very marked incense note.
