  Maison Berry seeks to capture the soul of Normandy in its fragrances, and Cathédrale is its boldest creation. Using a technique called Olfactive ID, they synthesised the scent of the Gothic cathedral in Rouen, a sacred place for mystics. With the necessary permissions, they took samples of the crypt and temple stone, highlighting two notes: frankincense and limonene, the molecule responsible for lemon’s aroma. It sounds pretentious, but the result is top-notch. To me, it smells far more luminous than a cathedral; temples usually smell dense and bring me down, but this is vibrant, I think due to the bergamot. It’s a green, lively frankincense that reminds me of the sparkling Passage d’enfer by L’Artisan Parfumeur, which I adore. Other notes include moss, wood, and benzoin. It has a mystical and silent air, but rather than evoking a temple, it conjures a green forest. If I were to rate it, it’s both green and luminous. Highly recommended at 100% for frankincense lovers.
