  • Shulton purchased Cie with the intention of giving women a versatile fragrance for going out, meeting friends, or attending formal events, using Candice Bergen as their advertising model. Upon spraying, the first thing you notice is an intense aldehyde note with very creamy, sweet green notes, likely due to the raspberry at the end. Small citrus sparkles appear at the beginning before integrating more discreetly but remaining present. It is an aldehyde bomb with touches of incense, vetiver, and exquisite green moss; the patchouli is soft, and the vanilla adds that sweet side. The musk is there but not central. Flowers such as carnation, ylang-ylang, and magnolia become prominent as it settles, with jasmine and rose playing a lesser role. In the 1970s, aldehydes returned in the N5 style, green and emphasising mosses, sandalwood/vetiver, or patchouli, flirting with a chypre side. I love Cie for its intensity, well-crafted notes (nothing synthetic in the vintage version), and because it lasts well as a concentrated cologne.

What a pity this perfume has disappeared. My mother left me about 2 or 3 ounces in an old bottle, and I absolutely loved how rich and delicious this vintage fragrance was. With echoes of Chloe, Chanel No. 19, and Nina by Nina Ricci, it evokes those glorious 1970s when there was magic, mysticism, class, and beauty, far from the current olfactory nonsense that is so lacking in charm. Notes of vetiver, oak, cedar, lily, ylang-ylang, and sandalwood have left me with a powdery, powerful, and exquisite scent on my skin. I would love to own more than one bottle of this gem.
