  • In my obsessive search for discontinued perfumes, I finally found this ultra-rare Freedom from TH. It features oakmoss with a metallic-blue cedar like I’ve never tried before. The opening is aromatic, with classic ozonic touches like eau de cologne, blue and sweet; similar to Davidoff Coolwater, then Aqua Quorum and Polo Sport. No wonder, as Harry Fremont created those scents. It’s a blood brother to them, but with a powerful metallic-ozonic sensation, a virile personality, great versatility, and a longevity over 8 hours. At times it recalls Egoist Platinum and Quorum Silver. From my perspective, it’s a classic exponent of the American school, a proposal that should never have been launched. If you liked Polo Sport or Aqua Quorum, here is the cum laude of that era, marked by a virility that no longer exists. One of Tommy’s best works; wherever you find it, try it!

  • This Freedom was a great perfume, but a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It seemed like a freshie, yet it surprised with a heavy, incisive metallic tone. A mix of CK One and Chrome with too much energy. It was aggressive, acidic and astringent, smelling like disinfectant for very dirty things. I’m surprised anyone thought it suited Hilfiger’s target audience at the time. The ‘freedom’ for young people wanting to fit in was nothing more than the rebellion of party sneakers… I remember seeing it on the shelf. It was impossible to tuck the plastic tab of the cap into the box to close it. I always saw it open, rigid and threatening, with the chrome cap covered in fingerprints. It made me sick… I never wore it, and when I did, I couldn’t stand it. That said, it projected brutally. The only freedom I felt was when I threw it away. Now I regret not keeping the bottle, because to be fair, I must say it was a great perfume.

  • This Freedom was a great perfume, yet a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It seemed like just another freshie, but surprised with a heavy, incisive metallic tone. A mix of CK One and Chrome stuffed full of amphetamines. It was aggressive, acidic, and astringent, like a disinfectant for filthy things. I’m surprised anyone thought it fitted Hilfiger’s target audience of the time. Freedom for the youth was nothing more than the rebellion of going to the club in trainers… I remember seeing it on the shelf: impossible to close the box, always open, threatening, with the chrome cap full of fingerprints. It made me sick… I never used it, and when I did, I couldn’t stand it. Yes, it projected brutally. The only sense of freedom I felt was when I threw it away. Now I regret not keeping the bottle, as I’ll end up saying it was a grand perfume.

  • This fragrance was good, not the Freedom of today. It was fresh and long-lasting, like a lemonade with a spicy kick; you could detect the ginger (I can smell it right now). It was discontinued; I don’t know what sales criteria led to that decision. What a pity, it was a very good proposition.

  • A cousin gifted me this perfume, and I never realised it said ‘for Him’. I loved it so much that now, knowing it’s for men, I’d say it smells unisex. I never knew I was wearing a man’s fragrance; on the contrary, I enjoyed it immensely. What a pity it’s a discontinued gem. Why wouldn’t I use it again now that I know it’s for men?

I first smelled it back in 1999 and loved it; it seemed very fruity, sweet, and pleasant. Years passed until I ordered it specially from Curaçao. It was still sweet and perfect for everyday wear, and everyone told me how good it smelled. Now it’s hard to find; I think they no longer make it. It brings back good memories.

What a fragrance! Back in my Tommy fan days, early 2000s, I spotted it and without hesitation, I rushed to several perfumeries to find it. What a delight! Smells of cucumber, ginger, and grapefruit, with incredible longevity and a trail so strong people asked what I was wearing. I found it later at an airport at a good price. I miss it so much. What a pity they discontinued it; it’s one of the best fresh scents I’ve tried. The reformulation doesn’t even come close. I always regret not saving some from the last bottle. Rating: 10/10.

Freedom for Him by Tommy Hilfiger. What a fragrance! Back in my early 2000s days as a Tommy fanatic, I spotted it on their website and, without hesitation, hunted down several perfumeries until I found it. What a delight! A scent of cucumber, ginger and grapefruit, with incredible longevity and a trail so potent that people would approach to ask what I was wearing. I got my hands on it again when I spotted it on sale at an airport. I miss it dearly. It’s a pity one of the freshest perfumes I’ve ever tried has been discontinued. The new reformulation doesn’t even come close. I always regret not saving a bit of the last bottle. Rating: 10/10

Freedom for Him is a fresh herbal fragment, perfect for an uncomplicated day. It smells good and is distinctive, but don’t expect magic: it fades quickly and lacks presence. If you want something clean and simple, it’s worth it; if you’re looking for projection or complexity, have a look at other options like Acqua di Gio or Polo Sport.
