Egoiste Platinum by Chanel is a woody musky floral fragrance for men. Launched in 1993, this composition was created by perfumer Jacques Polge. The top notes unfold lavender, rosemary, neroli and petit grain; the heart reveals geranium, statice, galbanum and jasmine; while the base notes settle on oakmoss, vetiver, cedar, sandalwood and amber.

Chanel’s Platinum Égoïste was the first Chanel perfume I tried and I had mixed feelings: I liked it but didn’t feel the need to buy it, until I tried it a couple more times and felt it blended well with my skin. Many say it’s Chanel’s answer to American tastes that couldn’t handle the original Égoïste, and although it has nothing to do with the original, it’s a fougère that’s easier to wear. Chanel tells us that ‘an eloquent and brilliant man is worth his weight in platinum’. It’s a fresh, herbaceous eau de toilette that doesn’t have anything to make it stand out among so many perfumes, but what it does have is that it’s a Chanel. To highlight, its notes of lavender, geranium, rosemary, and sclarea give the sensation of walking through the countryside with no one around, making it a very pleasant fragrance.

What a fantastic scent! Fresh, versatile, and sensible, plus masculine. Smells like the best after-shave you could have. It has stood the test of time through the years. An elegant fragrance, with a green and metallic scent. Smells like an office boss. For me, it’s the perfect contender to CK’s Eternity; it should have been back in its day. Launched to keep up, and Chanel’s quality is even better.

  • The fragrance that sparked my love for the world of perfume. For me, the meaning of how a man should smell.

  • I never liked the original Egoïste since it hit the market. However, I absolutely love this EGOISTE PLATINUM creation; it seems to me a work of art in perfumery.

Among my favourites from Coco’s house are Pour Monsieur from ’55, Antaeus from ’81, and the Egoïste from ’90. A real man’s scent, nothing fancy or those convex-sex caramel notes. It’s addictive. It rejects imitations. Worth it even if it’s pricey; it adds character to a bloke.

  • Chanel’s Egoïste Platinum is my second disappointment from the house in terms of longevity. I don’t know if it’s a reformulation, but the scent fades after an hour on the blotter; I haven’t tried it on skin, but it fades quickly there. That’s my personal take. The note that lasts the longest is the wild sage sclarea blending with the petit grain.

  • A luxury barbershop scent. Without being too ‘vintage’, it’s clean, masculine, and quite versatile depending on the weather (not the best in extreme temperatures, but it still works). It’s the ideal signature scent if you want to convey neatness, maturity, and savoir-faire, although it calls for a look that isn’t too casual or sporty. As for performance, I have a batch from 2022 and I can smell it all through the workday, even noticing it when I get home. A genuine marvel from Chanel.

It gives me vibes very similar to Calvin Klein’s Eternity; I love it. It’s sober, professional, and ideal for those over 30.

  • A timeless masterpiece that has been my companion for decades. People identify me by it because I wore nothing else for years, even giving up other fragrances to stick with this one and nothing else. It’s incredibly versatile and truly all-rounder. And although people say what they say about clones or similar… no! Chanel is Chanel and Platinum is Platinum. For me, the best of the house.

Platinum Egoiste, what a wonderful perfume. Clean, versatile, charming. It’s perfect for a man’s daily life who knows what he wants. It has exquisite geranium and neroli, and a woody part from the vetiver that makes it even richer. Among designer perfumes, it’s one of my favourites, and I don’t think it will take long before I get a bottle. To put a gripe, it doesn’t last more than 6 hours on my skin.

  • Topboy04

This smells like a businessman; I only wear it for special occasions or when I need to look well-dressed. I’m not sure if the scent has changed due to reformulations, but the longevity isn’t bad at all, 6-7 hours with moderate projection. This is quality because Chanel never fails. Now the downside is the price; I bought the 50ml for nearly £70. I understand it’s an expensive brand, but one must consider it has been on the market for over 30 years. At that price, I’d buy a new release this year that lasts and projects more, but that’s what marketing does. When this small bottle runs out, I’ll definitely go for the 100ml.

  • If you had to reduce your entire collection to one perfume, which would you choose? Scent: Uniqueness ★★★★★, Longevity: ★★★★★, Sillage: ★★★★★, Versatility: ★★★★★, Presentation: ★★★★★, Compliments: ★★★★★, Value for money: ★★★★★, Formality: Business, Usage: All occasions, Age range: Adult male, Unisex level: Male, Ideal application: 3 sprays. In short: ‘Ode to eternity’. Ideal occasion: Anything you can imagine. Alternative: Sauvage EDT (old). Blind buy? Yes, absolutely.

  • I have a sample I was given when buying a Bleu de Chanel. I was excited when they gifted it due to the positive reviews, but upon trying it, I couldn’t handle it: too much sharp grassy scent, very vintage, reminding me of herb shops or old barbershops. It’s worth noting its longevity and projection for a hard ‘fresh’ fragrance: 6 hours with good intensity and 8 hours very close to the skin, considering I applied 3 sprays on one arm because I didn’t dare wear it out. I wouldn’t tolerate it; certainly, I wouldn’t recommend it blindly if you’re not a huge fan of vintage fragrances.

  • Gentil vagabond

A good perfume with a slightly green opening. The dry-down is similar to CK Eternity, but not identical. It won’t fail in summer; it’s a very nice scent. I recommend it, though it can be difficult to find.

  • I take my hat off to Bofifa’s review. This fragrance reminds me of the posters in my room, the cassettes in my Walkman, and family summer trips—the 90s. The blend is spectacular, with a taste and class beyond the norm. The mossy, damp opening is tremendous; the subdued lavender doesn’t bother me, and those sharp metallic notes… it smells wonderful. The green notes season everything with a precise rhythm accompanying the potent geranium. It’s impeccably balanced. This fresh bitterness has overwhelming versatility: it’s not citrusy, not sweet, not aquatic. On my skin, with a generous spray, it’s a beast: considerable projection for a couple of hours and a solid presence for over six, without needing to reapply. It’s not my usual style, but I perceive it as spectacular, so magnetic that I’m considering it without taboos. It’s a classic; it smells like immortality. Perhaps those sharp, vampiric edges will one day lose touch with reality, but for now, it offers decades of enjoyment. Welcome it.

  • One of my all-time favourites; every time I wear it, I’m transported back to the 90s. It’s fresh and excessively elegant, a boss’s perfume. Chanel knows what they’re doing, and every euro it costs is worth it.

  • Hocicosensible

If you pluck your eyebrows, greet friends with ‘What’s up, BRO?’, wear ripped jeans, or believe there’s no music like reggaeton… stay away from this masterpiece. Do not profane this perfume. Simply, it’s not for you. THIS IS FOR MEN. You should wear One Million, Invictus, or JPG.

  • The quintessential fresh gentleman, a timeless classic that never goes out of style. I’d dare say it’s one of Chanel’s best; I’ve had it for 10 years and at 35, I still receive compliments. To be honest, it’s for personal enjoyment. A great perfume for all ages, but only for the connoisseur.

  • These days, many brands, even niche ones, try to modernise the fougère, that archetypal masculine scent, green, soapy, and lavender-forward. Chanel played that game over 30 years ago, leaving behind a fragrance that remains entirely relevant. It maintains that barbershop idea but elevates it to something more contemporary, refined, and classy. It still boasts outstanding longevity, around 12 hours. Those who claim Chanel lacks quality either have a biased opinion or haven’t looked beyond Allure Sport and Bleu.

  • I love this perfume, elegant, fresh, and of quality. It is true that the aroma recalls the 90s; it is a classic and subtle scent, not seeking to attract attention but to accompany someone who smells good. As it should be. I do not recommend it for young people who like TikTok perfumes.

  • Then there are the children and teenagers who use SpiceBomb, One Million, and other ambroxan-based chocolatey caramels… and then there are the gentlemen who use this perfume and play in the senior league.

  • It is a fragrance that will have all the class and freshness that a Chanel perfume of that kind deserves, but I cannot stand it. It causes me nausea; it is very cloying, and the rosemary with lavender is too much for me. I stick with its original version, Egoïste.

  • It is a fragrance that has been with me for many years, never going out of fashion. It is very versatile, suitable for both day and night, closed or open spaces, and you can wear it in almost any season. Personally, I think it is best enjoyed in spring or autumn. I don’t have a great nose, but the jasmine notes hit me hard. In general, it smells very much of flowers, but fresh. To me, it seems a very good balance between floral tones and a fresh touch without reaching citrus. You don’t stand out too much with this because the trail isn’t much and on my skin type it doesn’t last long, but people who have been able to smell me have certainly showered me with compliments.

  • As soon as I applied it, Eternity by Calvin Klein came to mind. Very similar, always speaking from memory. One could say Egoiste Platinum is the refined brother of Eternity; it feels of higher quality and less harsh. In the dry-down, it has a very rich creamy note that sets it apart from other fragrances. It is true that it also gives it an air of the classic XS due to the herbal note, but I don’t see them as that similar. The performance is soft, saving for the opening which is noticeable. Still, I recommend trying it if you are into herbal perfumes as it is delicious. However, the price is dear for what it offers nowadays as it competes with many other similar-cut proposals.

  • pancho0604

Rich. Very fresh and even slightly citrusy to me, but at the same time elegant. I felt the longevity was excellent; it lasted me a very long time. Another masterpiece from Chanel.

  • A wonderful perfume, but with ridiculous performance. It doesn’t last on skin for even an hour, and let’s not talk about the trail.

  • One of the best perfumes I know. Although its longevity is low to moderate, its aroma is totally worth it. For those who think Egoiste Platinum is similar to Croxato Man, I am sure COVID damaged their sense of smell; that Croxato thing doesn’t even come close to Egoiste Platinum, and of course, it doesn’t even have a sufficiently similar olfactory profile to say they are alike.

  • It is a different fragrance. Wonderful. It is true that it is the typical fragrance that depends on skin pH, creating a different trail and aroma potency. In my case, it is one of the perfumes that has given me the most compliments since its launch. I have had it in my collection since the 90s. In summer, it is a bomb in hot and humid places. The presence is incredible, and it overpowers anyone near you, imposing itself with authority. The blend of ingredients is simply perfect.

  • I have a 50ml bottle I bought last year, so it’s from one of the most recent batches. It is true that my skin is very grateful with almost all perfumes, with only a few exceptions, and this one lasts and projects (from more to less, of course) for several hours, many; in that sense, I have no problem whatsoever. What happens is that people in my environment who have smelled it have said it smells clean but old-fashioned. If this doesn’t bother you and you don’t mind spending around £80 (for 50ml), get it because it is a proper gem.

  • Nariz Feliz

A classic fragrance, mature, fresh, clean, and as elegant as possible. Among the ones I enjoy using most, during the day, at night, straight out of the shower, truly pleasant. If you like fragrances from the eighties and nineties, buy with confidence.

  • felipejca

Cleanliness and elegance in a bottle. Versatile for everyday use. The performance seems sufficient to me, and although the trail isn’t big, it’s typical of a perfume that doesn’t seek to be exaggerated but presents itself as it is: something fresh, soapy, and classy.

  • The green one par excellence. It comes out very clean and fresh, with lavender and citrus, giving way to a soft floral part. The dry-down is a bit drier but keeps that soapy touch of the moss. I note it as very fougère. It’s super fresh and appetising in temperate or hot climates. Lately, I notice that these classic green and fougère scents are preferred over those sweet rubbish of nowadays. They have personality and current perfumes, which are clones of clones and almost smell the same, can’t reach them. It’s a classic, one of the best perfumes from Chanel. Just by wearing it you already look elegant, even if you haven’t dressed up, but if you are already dressed, better, you’ll go like a proper gentleman.

  • Willie Coyote

Distinguished without being pretentious. Exquisite, to feel good with yourself and to spread that positive vibe that the scent has.

  • Emilio E.M.G.

Gentlemanly in a bottle. Versatility for everything. More than 30 years later, this fougère remains a work of art that doesn’t overwhelm but everyone likes it. It doesn’t matter if you’re a weirdo; if you smile and wear Egoiste Platinum, they will love you.

  • Jorge Serna

EGOISTE PLATINUM: there are beautiful things and then there is this perfume masterpiece. I find it hard to be objective because it is hugely evocative and I enjoy it from start to finish. I see it as elegant, ethereal, and with the finesse that only Chanel could give before. I bought a vintage bottle from 2006 and when comparing it with the current one, the essence remains intact, although the old one feels denser and richer. If you’re looking for something fresh and spicy, go for it. Little more to add to this eternal Chanel jewel.

  • Tordo Uruguayo

Far from being unpleasant, on the contrary, it’s super fresh, herbal, and citrusy. I understand that due to those characteristics it doesn’t last long, but for Chanel and knowing what their fragrances cost, for it to finish in a couple of hours is a real disappointment.

  • raulsilva_parf

I liked the regular Egoiste less, but it is elegant and distinguished. This one smells generic, something unacceptable for a brand that usually leads in price. Perhaps because it’s a mass copy, I associate it with supermarket knick-knacks, and I’m surprised by its success. If you smell it at Mercadona with the Deliplus label, it will go unnoticed.

  • Who says Blue Intense by L’Bel smells like that? I imagine their parents are cousins to understand such a strange opinion… It’s a herbal, timeless, and distinguished fragrance, ideal for work or a social gathering. Although it’s not one of my favourites, I don’t dislike wearing it; at least, you don’t go unnoticed.
