  I ordered a decant of this Tauer alongside the new Nexin. I loved both: they are very different but left a great taste in my mouth with Andy Tauer. Golestan is a unisex floral with powdery and semi-sweet phases, like stepping into an Arab shop full of spices, flowers, incense and Oriental sweets. It’s exactly what it emulates: an Arab castle. Tauer doesn’t sell perfumes, they sell experiences.

  A creative and singular fragrance where the ambergris sounds modern and almost synthetic. The ambroxan has a hyper-lactonic touch, like Blanche Bête by Les Liquides Imaginaires, over a mineral and creamy heart that softens that subtle floral background. It’s not for pleasing everyone or for wearing without thought; for me, it’s an intense experience, better for exploring than for daily wear. Essential to try before buying.

  The bottle is a work of art; the Persian aesthetic of the flask made me order a decant. It smells like the colours of the stained glass and the drawings of the Golestan Palace in Iran, a beauty bridging East and West. The scent isn’t easy: the first spray is alarming, like a jumble of ripe yellow flowers and spices in a cellar, but within 10 minutes that damp attic smell vanishes to reveal intense, heavy florals. It’s potent, niche and original, with an 80s/90s vintage vibe that can be overwhelming. It projects more than it sits on the skin; it’s unisex for mature people with character. Perhaps for winter, though I’m not sure if I should buy the full bottle or if it will overwhelm me. 50ml lasts a lifetime.

  Ylang-ylang takes centre stage with that ambergris base, making it a fresh floral that I highly recommend.
