  • Great find. It smells very much like Versace Eros but goes its own way. It’s more versatile and less strident, although the resemblance is striking, so some might not want both. I see it as suitable for almost all year round, except summer (unless for parties or cool evenings). It’s sweet but not cloying or as loud as Eros. Performance is decent, not quite as good as Versace’s but acceptable. I recommend it for younger people, under 40.

  • The bottle and cap are handsome. I liked it in the store and, after reading that it has tobacco notes, decided to try it. You can taste the kick of the pepper; some might find it rough, but the amber and tobacco sensation is lovely. I’ve only worn it in winter so far and enjoyed it. I’d like to try it in summer to see how my skin reacts.

  • I picked this up blindly based on the reviews and the bottle, but watch out: it’s not for cold weather. It suits me better in mild daytime conditions. At first, it smells like Mauboussine’s Pour Lui, but then it becomes fresher and spicier, with that mint that gives a ‘just brushed my teeth’ sensation. The trail is moderate and lasts about four hours. For the price, it’s just right, nothing more or less. Ideal for daily wear and the office, very versatile.

I was keen to try it; the bottle is attractive and some reviews compared it to Versace Eros at first, noting it later turned resinous due to tobacco and amber notes, which sounded logical and appealing since I hate Eros’s mentholated side. In the end, I got it, and it’s the first fragrance to completely disappoint me: it smells of extreme synthetic camphor (I’ve never had issues with synthetics), the mint is terrible, the scent is flat with no development, and it fades in minutes. I think there are better options with improved price and performance.

I had high expectations, saw reviews, and the bottle is lovely. Some compare it to Versace Eros at the start, but as it dries down, it becomes resinous, which sounds logical given the tobacco and amber notes, since that mentholated part of Eros is what makes me hate it. In the end, I got it, tried it, and it’s the first perfume that has completely disappointed me: extremely synthetic camphoraceous aroma (I’ve never had issues with synthetics), unpleasant mint, flat scent with no evolution, and it vanishes in minutes. I think there are other options with better price and performance.

For some reason, my dad preferred this fragrance over Versace. The latter seems more metro, sweet, and sophisticated; I’ve had a sample and smelled it several times. Guess 1981 is like a 70s or 80s Eros version, with a more masculine touch. Linear aroma, floral, herbal, resinous, with a mint infusion that could have been fresher. P.S.: I love the ginger.

  • BrowsBanks

The Eros that Versace never managed to create; in my opinion, it’s superior. It’s not brash or cloying like the original, and the tobacco note gives it depth, making it rich and very sexy.

  • BrowsBanks

The Eros that Versace never achieved; in my opinion, this is superior in scent. It’s not shouty or cloying like the original, and the tobacco note gives it all the body: quite deep and very sexy.

  • At first, it smells a bit like Hugo Boss Bottled, then moves to a rich mint accompanied by ginger. Finally, the tobacco and amber make it more serious and sexy.

Wondering what Versace Eros EDT smelled like before the reform for the EDP and Parfum? Here’s the answer: undoubtedly, a true hidden gem.

  • felipehdezm

It seems very mediocre. It lacks Eros’s charm, longevity, and projection. The mint is too prominent, and the plum note is of very poor quality. If the ingredients were of better quality, it would be much better.

I’m not an expert, but I hope to help those who buy it blind. Simply put, it smells similar to Versace Eros, though its longevity differs due to the price-to-quality ratio. It has a good scent, very close to Versace, and the general public might confuse it. Cheers; I like this site; before buying blind, I check reviews, and this time I hope to contribute.

  • Seems very mediocre. It lacks the charm of Eros, neither its longevity nor its projection. The mint is very noticeable and the plum is low quality. If the ingredients were better, it would be much improved.

I bought it recently in Mérida, Yucatán, and it was easy to get hold of. For the price and quality, it’s worth it. It’s an elegant fragrance for going out at night, ideal in autumn or winter. It performs well and I’ve received compliments, especially at work (in a hospital). Don’t expect a masterpiece, but it does its job. I recommend 10 or 12 sprays to leave a good trail.

Bought it recently; I live in Mérida and it was easy to find. Given the price and quality, it’s worth it: elegant for going out at night, ideal in autumn or winter. It’s reliable and I’ve received many compliments, especially at work (in a hospital). Don’t expect a miracle, but it gets the job done. I recommend 10 or 12 sprays to leave a good trail.

  • I’ll keep it brief: it’s semi-formal, for night outings, with friends, a partner, or dinner. The opening is not very citrusy, with a dark mint and that plum that gives it a mysterious touch. The tobacco and wood are felt very subtly, a little sweet; the blend seems like a light incense. It’s a night fragrance I absolutely love. For the price, it doesn’t project much, perhaps one hour or a metre, but with the wind it leaves a rich trail. It won’t be a jewel, but it delivers for its price and lasts four hours on skin. Reapplying doesn’t hurt. I recommend it for 25+.

  • Briefly: semi-formal for nights out, drinks with friends, or dinner. A slightly non-citrus opening with dark mint; that plum note adds a mysterious touch and lasts all night. Tobacco and wood are very subtle, a touch sweet; together they smell like a light incense. A night fragrance I love. For the price, it doesn’t project much, perhaps one hour at a metre, but in the wind it leaves a gorgeous trail. Not a masterpiece, but it delivers for the price and lasts four hours on skin. Reapplying doesn’t hurt. Recommended for 25+.

  • Sniffed Eros by Versace and, if they’re similar, I prefer the GUESS version. My only gripe is longevity: it’s cheap, so reapplying isn’t an issue, but if it lasted longer, I’d definitely pay more.

  • It does not last long on me; I must reapply or I do not feel it. I use it daily in winter do not recommend it in heat because it is so sweet. The quality is good for the price: Casa Guess is economical and reliable. It is indeed very similar to Versace Eros but if you apply them together it feels like the Guess is more artificial.

  • Jimenez Scent

I have had it for a month. Upon receipt the scent was extremely synthetic and very sweet with longevity of 4-5 hours. After letting it macerate for three weeks surprise! That unpleasant smell disappeared and the longevity improved. Compared to Eros EDP (8-10 hours on my skin) this Guess now lasts about 8 hours and the scent is much more bearable; the sweetness decreases and it could be used on hot days without overdoing it. Conclusion: if you buy it apply it and let it macerate in the cupboard for a minimum of two weeks.

  • Modern and fleeting fragrance. Nothing surprising suitable for the office or gym; I would never use it for dates. I have given it weeks of testing and maceration. I struggle to find the tobacco and vetiver (notes I am looking for) and on my skin it is not a ‘sweet’ fragrance. As a reference it is perhaps at the level of Zara or a budget designer scent. Safe buy if you can get it on offer.

  • Very versatile and soft fragrance for daily wear. Plum and amber stand out at the start (approx. 40 mins) leaving a subtle sweetness with woods tobacco and a touch of mint. It does not resemble Eros at all except for the mint; it is more similar to a blend of 1 Million Hugo Boss Bottled or Legend by MB. Scent: 9/10. Longevity: 4-6h max. Sillage: 5/10 average. Price: 10/10 accessible.

  • Personally it does not resemble Eros at all. The scent is pleasant sweet and warm; I do not perceive tobacco and it seems ideal for fresh or cold weather for daily use work or school. Accessible price and moderate longevity (5-6 hours). The downside is that it lacks projection and the trail is very intimate but for the price you can overapply without issues. Good value perfume!

  • You pay exactly what you get; it is not the eighth wonder. It has a slight similarity to Eros only when dry lasts about 5-6 hours but projects very little. It is somewhat synthetic although pleasant. A very good option for dates or nights out in climates below 25°C. For the price it is excellent for smelling good without spending much.

  • EloyInfiesta

In my opinion it is very similar to Eros; I own both and it is difficult to tell them apart when holding the atomiser close to the nose. The only noticeable difference is that in this Guess the amber notes are more prominent. Otherwise it offers the same. Given the vast price difference if you like the Eros line it is well worth it. Performance is poor but for £20 it is usually the cost so just reapply and you are good.

  • Alexrojas2908

It smells similar to Eros but is super weak. The only good thing is that it is very cheap.

  • Juan Pablo Melgoza Maldon

I am looking for perfumes that are worth the money and I came across this one. Although it is compared to Versace Eros it is not a clone: it opens with sweet plum and fresh mint then dries down to warm tobacco and cinnamon finishing with a creamy ambered sandalwood. The magic happens as it dries: it is so similar to Eros that in a blind test we got confused. It is sweet fresh and warm it pleases any nose and works in any season although it is better for autumn and spring. Ideal for the office without being overpowering or for nights out and dates.

  • Do not buy this if you are looking for projection longevity or originality; it is ideal only for bottle collectors on a budget or those who prefer perfumes without personality.

  • DO NOT BUY THIS FRAGRANCE UNLESS… you enjoy perfumes with low projection, trail, and longevity; you collect generic bottles with cheap-looking packaging; or you are looking for fragrances without performance or personality.
