  The opening of Gujarat is an explosion of spice and heat that I haven’t smelled in years; in fact, it made me sneeze at first application as my nose refused to take it. Once that sharp phase passes, the perfume softens and reveals its woody side, though the spices never disappear, remaining present all the time. It’s a spicy, dry, woody scent with a sweet, boozy undertone, almost fruity and floral but very muted. You can detect the curry spice blend, a slightly dirty and sweaty cumin (don’t be alarmed), and above all, a good dose of saffron. Everything is well blended, and frankly, it’s addictive. In the heart, the woods dominate: oud, sandalwood, and vetiver, though they’re hard to distinguish. They’re dry woods and, to put it bluntly, somewhat dark. The oud doesn’t smell animalic but rather medicinal. I’d say it’s fairly linear, except for that initial hit, but there are moments where certain nuances emerge and others fade, coming and going. The final result is a perfume that, in my opinion, is tremendously masculine, with above-average longevity (it lasts forever and projects well). It’s also quite challenging; I don’t think it’s for everyone, but I’ve loved it. It’s a scent that can become tiring if overused, making it perfect for occasional wear. Plus, with just a few millilitres, it lasts for ages, which makes its high price more friendly. Excellent perfume, definitely recommended for those seeking different scents and new challenges in modern perfumery.
