DEV 1 takes the crown for the wildest scent, beating number two hands down. Opium takes the lead, with civet and oud clinging close, creating such an original accord it’s almost frightening. There’s a salty note, likely from ambergris, and it even smells of a wet dog (perhaps the Cerberus?), yet everything remains perfectly balanced. In the dry down, a cane sugar sweetness emerges; mixed with the main notes, it recalls a cherry lollipop. A wicked, infernal treat, if you can call it that.
A dense, dark fragrance. In Chile, we have a cough syrup with honey and other ingredients called ‘palto miel’, and the scent of DEV 1 reminds me of it immensely. As it dries down, it transforms completely into a green, incense-like base. I quite liked it. Heavy sillage and incredible longevity.
Starts with a super liturgical, effervescent, yet smoky incense. Gradually, dry, spicy cinnamon emerges alongside the resins (lots of labdanum), which feel sticky. Then the oud kicks in, becoming more woody, dry, and spiced, with the cinnamon always taking centre stage. There are also animal nuances, slightly dirty but calming, with the smoky base still present. Finally, a creamy sweetness from the vanilla and beeswax. It remains woody and spiced, but less so. The performance is good. Good presence at first and great longevity. Totally masculine and better suited to cooler climates. In my opinion, it has quality, the notes sound natural, and its performance is appreciated, but it doesn’t quite captivate me. I don’t think it’s easy to buy blind, especially if you don’t enjoy resinous, dry, smoky, or very spiced fragrances.
