It opens with a hit of dirty woody lavender and lots of cypriol giving it a balsamic aura. Projects a metre and a half, very pleasant, suspiciously so given what’s usually around oud; you only notice that dirty spot if you get very close. The beauty is the contrast: the caramel-oud of Kemi could have been heavy, but here it isn’t. The balance between lavender, oud, and bitter orange is where it should be, making it fresh yet very sustained. There are two types of masters: those who create worlds like Tauer or Gualtieri, and the architects of balance like Maurice or Mateu. In Hayat, the proportions and quality are correct. Medium constant projection (one to one and a half metres), perfect: you feel it all the time without being invasive. Longevity 12h+, you still feel it; in the last hours, lavender predominates over the wood, which is unusual. Very good perfume, balanced, better than Kemi by Kemi. Medium versatility and high price. Scent: 10/10, Longevity: 8.5/10, Projection: 7.8/10, Emotional: Yes, Originality: 8/10, Price: 340€/100ml. Recommended: Medium-High (on Black Friday).
I agree with the previous reviewer; for those looking for an idea, it’s a wilder version of Tom Ford’s Oud Wood. With greater longevity and sillage. I see it more for cold climates. A separate detail: the presentation is 10/10.
Gentlemen, a masterpiece by Chris Maurice. I used to give Xerjoff the cold shoulder for some tests that left a ‘nahhhh’, but this creation (the now-discontinued KEMI line) is art. It bears similarity to Tom Ford’s Oud Wood, but here the handling of the wood is impeccable. You can smell lavender and cardamom, but the oud is the protagonist. It doesn’t smell animalic (IMO) and is very wearable. Excellent performance, lasts all day, and projects almost a metre. Highly recommended; if you have the chance, do it, because it will disappear (does everything good get discontinued?).
High-quality oud, very similar to Zafar with hints of Ceylon (Xerjoff Oud Stars). It’s a spiced and woody blend with extreme versatility: it works in heat and never fails in winter. Master Carbonel has gifted us one of the best oud versions. In my opinion, it’s light years ahead of Tom Ford, although people associate it with cardamom. If Oud Wood is instant decaffeinated coffee, Hayat is a freshly ground espresso with Italian foam. Compared to the new Xerjoff K Hayat version: the Xerjoff bottle is prettier and the atomiser is identical. The scent is practically the same, but Kemi is more citrusy and spiced, whereas Xerjoff loads more cedar and has less orange and lavender. Mid-stage and dry-down are identical. The only difference is that Kemi shines more while Xerjoff feels more woody. Performance is identical; nothing has changed.
I love it, but I wouldn’t buy it due to its lack of versatility and price. It opens with a punch of dark, spicy oud that can be alarming; the citrus and floral notes are barely noticeable. Once dried, it’s kinder, but the oud remains strong. Optimal performance comes from the patchouli and cypriol. From start to finish, it’s earthy. It’s a fish out of water in cold nights, transporting you to deep, dark places. I don’t see it for dinners, enclosed spaces, or the office. Although it’s an outstanding aroma, I’d use it sparingly. Projects well and lasts over 8 hours. No downsides.
This is a true niche fragrance, not for everyone. Upon spraying, that blend of oud and bitter orange smells a bit like a stable, but by the time it dries down, it’s powerful yet wearable for winter. The oud is alive but softer. For me, it doesn’t quite reach the heights of Tom Ford’s Oud Wood; either it lacks oud or the quality falls short, although this is more wearable. A top-tier perfume, but difficult for daily use. Ideal for enjoying in solitude. Longevity exceeds 8 hours with a good sillage. High price, but if the oud is good, it’s justified. Rating: 6.5-10/10.
