  • A perfume for vetiver fans in both facets: earthy, like Encre Noire, and soft/formal, like Tom Ford’s Grey Vetiver. The opening is Encre Noire style, less dirty but with a hint of bitter vetiver similar to ash, giving it a serious and adult air. At first impression, it could pass for a vintage perfume. After two hours, it softens and lowers its trail, settling into a soft and pleasant vetiver. It hasn’t won me over, and I wouldn’t pay the asking price, but still, I don’t see it as a bad perfume.

  • For vetiver fans who want it in two facets: the earthy Encre Noire style and the soft, formal Tom Ford Grey Vetiver style. At first, it smells like Encre Noire, less dirty but with that bitter ash note that gives it a serious, adult, almost vintage air. After two hours, it softens and settles into a pleasant, discreet vetiver. It hasn’t won me over and isn’t worth the price, but it’s not a bad perfume.

  • I bought a decant looking for a well-marked patchouli, but for me, it’s more vetiver than anything else.

Truly a five-star perfume. An elegance that overflows. It’s no surprise that a classic scent like vetiver gets that twist and turns into this beauty. Its opening is discreet, but as it develops, it unfolds in all its splendour: vetiver with nutmeg and a citrus touch. It transported me back to my childhood and reminded me greatly of my father’s deodorant, but this surpasses it a thousand times. What a lovely evocative memory; I’m head over heels for this perfume, I’m speechless. I see it as very versatile, not invasive, perfect for work, a romantic date, or going out for dinner. It has a trail that is a little more than moderate but persistent. For formal and semi-formal suits, I see no drawback to using it at any time of year. Scent 10/10, Trail 7.5/10, Longevity 7.5/10, Projection 7.5/10.

  • A fragrance that could be the pinnacle for those tirelessly seeking ‘The Vetiver Fragrance’… simply a marvel. It’s a very refined, elegant, and far from loud composition; a gentleman through and through. It has vintage reminiscences but is very current, shining with a sublime vetiver that takes almost absolute prominence, accompanied by a slightly boozy base (more noticeable at first) and a gently sweet touch. I don’t perceive the citrus facet, but I do identify the nutmeg and the supporting actor, patchouli. It’s a masterpiece by Jovoy that is worth knowing (yes, it sounds like a cliché, but I don’t understand why it takes so long to be discovered).

  • If you are tirelessly searching for ‘The Vetiver Fragrance’, this is the pinnacle, a marvel. It is a refined, elegant composition that isn’t loud; it’s like a gentleman of old. It has vintage reminiscences but is current, featuring a sublime vetiver that commands, accompanied by a slightly intoxicating and sweet base. I don’t detect the citrus, but I do sense the nutmeg and patchouli. It is a masterpiece by Jovoy that is worth the wait; I don’t understand why it took so long to release.

  • I dislike it quite a bit. It smells of earthy, dry vetiver, which reminds me directly of a pipe tobacco ashtray.

  • I love it. It smells different, very masculine, and lasts quite a while at a very good price.

A very sober and formal fragrance. Very dry and bitter, yet elegant. I detect that mentholated phase found in Lalique Encre Noire Extreme and Private Label, and to a lesser extent in Psychedelique, but here it is felt most strongly. For me, it’s like a fresher, less potent, lighter-bodied, and more discreet Private Label. Although the scent and quality are very good, I expected much better performance; I find it quite weak.

Very sober and formal, dry and bitter yet elegant. I detect that menthol phase found in L’Encens Extreme and Private Label, but it is stronger here. It’s like a fresher, less potent Private Label, with less body and more discreet. The scent and quality are good, but I expected much more regarding longevity and projection. I find it weak.

  • It’s a 10/10 in everything: longevity, scent, and projection. It is the best thing I have ever bought. A vetiver of another world.

  • It’s a 10/10. The longevity, scent, and projection are excellent; the best thing I’ve ever bought. A world-class vetiver.

It takes me back to 15 years ago at an event in Guanajuato with top politicians. I was an 18-year-old aspiring politician in an atmosphere that shifted from festive to super serious and analytical, filled with tension and people forced to applaud against their will. This fragrance captures that contradiction: incredibly elegant and sober, yet with cheerful, playful sparks. The vetiver doesn’t smell like an old barbershop; instead, it creates a unique accord with the sandalwood that has placed it in my top 5. A 10/10.

Fifteen years ago, I attended an event in Guanajuato with top-level politicians (even the president, though he didn’t make it). I was an 18-year-old aspiring to a career in politics. The event was promoted as informal, yet everyone wore suits except us, the young guests. When the governor took us to his office to discuss the next steps of his government (highly questionable, by the way), the atmosphere shifted from festive to analytical and introspective: arched eyebrows, clenched jaws, tight fists… almost everyone disagreed but was obliged to applaud. This fragrance transports me back to that moment, a total contradiction: incredibly elegant and sober, mixed with cheerful and playful sparks. What I love is that the vetiver doesn’t smell old-school or like a barbershop, creating a unique accord with the sandalwood that has placed it in my top 5. (10/10)

  • My goodness, what a marvel! I wear it in summer and it’s perfect. I’m a woman who embraces femininity to the fullest, so let me tell you: girls, you can wear it, it looks phenomenal.

  • Fragancefran

I like it, but it reminds me strongly of tobacco ash. I love patchouli and vetiver, but here they are too strong. It evokes aristocrats with pendulum clocks or philosophers in a reading club smoking a pipe.

  • Great fragrance. Masculine, vetiver, patchouli, earthy, distinguished, elegant, adult. These are the words that come to mind. Not for everyday wear, rather for special occasions: you can imagine someone in a tuxedo, a mature millionaire, wearing it on a party night. If Jubilation XXV were the daytime fragrance of a rich man, this could well be his evening fragrance. With a slight vintage touch, it could be the fragrance Don Corleone would wear at celebrations 🙂

  • Simply takes my breath away. Its price-to-quality ratio is among the best. Elegant, versatile and, for me, masculine.

  • This fragrance is a blend of: 60% Original Wild Pine, 25% Lalique Encre Noir Sport and 15% Puig Agua Brava. It is a Retro-Modern fragrance, quite masculine, elegant, with very good quality and performance.

  • ViceCity990

I did not find it particularly pleasant. The bitter and citrusy tones remind me of a bottle of ink… It is not ugly or out of place; if I hurry, I would say it is quite elegant due to its discretion and masculinity, but definitely not a fragrance I would wear. I recommend it for men over 40 who wear semi-formal or more formal attire.

  • A refined fragrance with quality ingredients. I am a fan of vetiver; I tried this Incident with enthusiasm but… the truth is it didn’t impact me. Yes, it is good, I won’t deny it. But it has a twist I have smelled before and couldn’t recall until reading a review below that proved spot on. It would be the niche version of Wild Pine. If old Wild Pine had a private version costing 300 dollars, it would smell like this; I am not saying it is identical, do not misunderstand me, but it transports me to that perfume because I am a collector and lover of vintage. I stick with Guerlain’s Vetiver and even Terre d’Hermès Eau Intense Vetiver before Incident Diplomatique. I even like Encre Noir A L’Extrême much more. This is not unisex; it is a vintage perfume with a modern touch but masculine, full stop. Good fragrance, approved, but I would not pay the price they ask for 100 ml. I am content with a 5 ml decant.

A niche, budget-friendly version of a classic fougère based on cypress pine. If you go to your father’s room, you are sure to find one: Quorum, Agua Brava, or that bloody Wild Pine. Thanks to the exaggerated hype from some perfumer YouTubers, it has gained fame in the last four or five years. It shows class and smells good, lasts quite a while, I won’t deny it, but paying the fortune it commands for an almost generic scent seems absurd. Go for one from the Encre Noir line, the A L’Extrême, or above all the Sport, the most versatile with citrus notes like this ID from Jovoy. Watch out, for 30-35 quid and forget about stupid diplomatic incidents. Jo No Voy.

  • A fragrance for men, not for women or very young people, although everyone is free to wear what they wish. Here, the star is a earthy vetiver, slightly wild, which only softens after half an hour, blending with sandalwood to reveal its best version: less intense and more civilised. Elegance, maturity and quality. It reminded me of Ormonde Man in style, though I believe Ormonde Jayne wins on seduction. If you can endure that first hour where it attacks with masculine ferocity and wait for the sandalwood to take over, you will enjoy it fully. It has the air of a high-class fougère. Suitable for any season, elegant and formal situations. Good longevity and moderate projection. If you love earthy vetiver and modern fougères, it will offer extra quality, prioritising elegance over seduction.

I rediscovered this fragrance and now I see things in a new light; it truly deserved a second opinion. This time, I noticed it is very similar to two of Nasomatto’s scents: Duro and Pardon. They share the same profile: sober, serious, discreet, for a ‘gentleman’. Jovoy seems to want to evoke another era, even the bottles give an old-fashioned feel. In my experience, it is extremely weak with very little projection, just as when I tested it years ago.

  • On my skin, it smells like gentlemen from the 1980s in Spain, around 70 years old: wearing pleated trousers, a wool jumper, and a cane. I thought that bitter smell was a lack of hygiene, and perhaps it’s because they were wearing a perfume like this. After trying it several times, it is definitely not for me.

  • On my skin, it reminds me of the smell of those septuagenarian gentlemen from the 80s in Spain. Gentlemen with pleated trousers, wool jumpers, and canes. I used to think the bitter smell of those gentlemen was a lack of hygiene. And what could be is that they were wearing a perfume like this. After trying it several times, definitely not for me.

  • Pabloquinte

Oh, perfume miracle, this is elegance and neatness. Watch out, because it lasts perfectly all day. I don’t know what compliment generator it is, but you’ll feel fantastic wearing it. I’m amazed and it’s good news for my collection.

  • Bharara God

$180 for an hour of projection? No wallet can stand it if you have to reapply this every two hours.

  • samucel87

A patchouli slap right in the face… chocolatey, earthy… mixed with vetiver, they combine into an alpha male scent hard to beat. I really like the opening… I can’t deny that. Although it’s a very dry, dark scent and can be a bit overwhelming, it dries down quickly and things change… to start with, I’d say the intensity drops exponentially until it almost disappears, leaving a scent very close to the skin… a bit disappointing. And on the other hand, the dry-down becomes astringent with a strange bitter touch, which makes me lose interest. What a pity. In summary: Totally masculine. Poor versatility…. Scent: 6 Longevity: 5 Sillage: 5 Price: €160/100ml

  • Vetiver and nutmeg. The tangerine got left at the factory for me. It feels like a grandfather’s perfume. Smells very close to the skin. It’s a great NI. The longevity is poor and the projection weak. I can’t recall which YouTuber made me buy it. Luckily, I only bought a 2.5 ml decant. I’ll gift it to someone older than me (I’m 43 and this isn’t for my age).

  • An incredible scent if you like vetiver and patchouli. It lasts all day, when it seems it won’t, so I give it a few sprays and by the end I only notice the patchouli. It has me fascinated.

  • Pure sophistication in a bottle. The opening is wonderful with tangerine, then the two vetivers envelop you, followed by that earthy, damp, vibrant patchouli hugging you. It feels sophisticated… undoubtedly a jewel of high perfumery. Lasts many hours on skin. With this, you smell of luxury and class.

  • Smells like pure niche: wet grass, dampness, and mint. It brings back memories of the Valdivian rainforest straight after a shower. It’s like being immersed in a pine forest following a storm. I wouldn’t recommend buying it blindly; it may appeal to very few. It’s a mature scent, I think it suits someone aged 38 and above better.

  • Starts like a nutmeg bomb, then a heap of patchouli emerges which, on my skin, wins handily over the vetiver. At first, it smells super potent, masculine, even too much. But after 20–30 minutes, it drops significantly, leaving a more pleasant yet almost inoffensive aroma for its category. For all this, I don’t think it’s worth it.

Brutal perfume, absolutely brutal. I’ve spent money on far more expensive things, but this is another level entirely. If I had to choose one word, it would be elegant.
