  One of the best discoveries since I started this hobby! Alghabra is a Turkish house I stumbled upon thanks to a random sample, and the level of surprise was incredible. This perfume is inspired by Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar and masterfully takes you on a walk through that famous market. The opening is an explosion where you feel the succulence of pineapple alongside spiced coffee, as if you were drinking Turkish coffee upon waking. Quickly, the spices take centre stage while the coffee recedes to a supporting role. It’s a rounded composition of nutmeg and cloves, with other spices emerging: sometimes cinnamon, other times a subtle cardamom, and others I can’t quite identify. All set against a frame of musk, vetiver and amber that provides balance despite being a spice bomb. And the word ‘bomb’ needs to be addressed: it is easily the most intense and long-lasting perfume I know; a single spray on my neck lasts over 12 hours (for reference, I use a minimum of five sprays of Interlude Black Iris when it’s cold, so I’m not one to use sparingly). In short, it’s a hidden gem in perfumery. I think the price plays a part, but given the quality, longevity and how long the bottle lasts, it’s definitely worth it. It’s one of those perfumes where every use is a new experience, sensing a different nuance or a note you hadn’t noticed before. An excellent example of why perfumery is art.
