Ani by Nishane

Beautiful perfume, excellent top notes, worth every penny. It starts fresh and minty, evolving into a deep, enveloping vanilla with potent citrus in between. The trail, projection, and longevity are ten out of ten.

ANI evolves, don’t be fooled by the opening, take it slowly. Apply it to your skin and take a walk. After thirty minutes it transforms and that famous vanilla emerges. Be patient and you’ll enjoy its quality.

Reformulated and ruined… a shame that niche perfumes with sky-high prices reformulate with lower-quality ingredients and shorter longevity for the same price. It was love at first sniff, much better than Hacivat, but the reformulation killed it. Not worth it, it doesn’t last or project as before. A reformulated perfume I will never buy again.

Ani is one of those rare perfumes that makes you smile the moment you smell it; you know it will soon be a bottle. It opens with a sharp lemon softened by pink pepper. That citrus-spicy opening sets the stage for a vanilla flan wrapped in ginger, giving it a spark and preventing it from becoming cloying. It’s in this contrast between warmth and freshness that the magic lies. When it settles, it becomes silky, enveloping, and more addictive. The base woods emerge, adding elegance and depth. An ideal unisex perfume to share, it performs better in the shoulder seasons but works well in winter too. No complaints about the current batch; it accompanies me perfectly throughout the day. If you like vanilla and citrus, Ani delivers hands down. Longevity: 7-8h. Sillage: 7/10. Originality: 9.5/10. Quality: 9/10. Value for money: 7/10 (162€/100ml).

This perfume is a marvel; it mixes citrus in the opening and then leaves a sweetness I’ve never smelled before… (except Althair, they aren’t similar, but its sweetness is equally exquisite). The truth is, it’s totally worth the price.

I ordered a generous sample, as I’d heard it was the densest vanilla. Is it dense? Yes, but for me, it’s a totally masculine scent. I can’t see myself wearing it. It has a sophisticated and powerful edge. The dry down is rich, so I’ll give it a chance.

🍰🌼 Ani sends a hug ▪️ Ani is elegant yet friendly. It smells of money and someone who knows what they want in life, with great personality. It’s sweet, with a spicy ginger kick, and incense accompanying the vanilla makes it truly lovely. My nose gets used to it very quickly, and I stop smelling it quite fast. Longevity and projection, in my opinion, are moderate. For some reason, it reminds me of Naxos, which along with Ani are my favourite fragrances. I struggle to imagine using it in a very informal context; if I’m wearing Ani, I need to be dressed in a shirt, with determination. Here I am, and this is how I want to smell.

A vanilla-infused Hacivat that makes it elegant and neutrally unisex. The fresh, citrusy opening is immediately dominated by vanilla and woods, which persist alongside that characteristic earthy scent of patchouli. At the end, the vanilla remains strong with a smoky touch; very rich. An excellent fragrance, though I prefer the Hacivat; however, I’m sure this perfume will be very suitable for vanilla lovers.

An exquisite and different vanilla; it has the freshness of Layton in the opening, a fresh note I believe is from a hyper-realistic ginger, but which disappears within an hour of application. The longevity is insane; I woke up the next day and could still smell it, so much so that I put my shirt in the wash because it was radiating the fragrance. The 100ml bottle will last me a lifetime.

This is beauty in a bottle. Sweet, fresh, aromatic, and herbal all at once. A brutal combination.

A brutal find. In a perfume shop, the salesperson recommended a tester they claimed was an inspiration for ANI by Nishane. I loved it so much that I sprayed it on blotting paper, carried it with me all day and the next, and left it in my drawer where it perfumed the entire week. I became addicted and finished the decant in two weeks. It’s an instant classic, timeless and out of fashion. Dense yet not cloying, deep and respectful, warm without being overheated. I detect zero synthetic notes. It’s for enjoyment, leaving clothes and sheets smelling of it. A 10/10. It’s not cheap, but it’s worth it. For these creations, new ‘niche’ perfumeries are definitely worth the investment. Now, Cedrat Boise has gone down in history; although I liked it too and it has nothing to do with Ani, trying them together made this the one that obsessed me.

It’s a total bomb. Three sprays are more than enough. It has a very different vanilla from what you find in other fragrances. 10/10.

ANI has had me crazy for months, and I could only buy it a few weeks ago. I waited so long because, after reading reviews, many criticised the longevity of the new batches, and I didn’t want to spend so much on something that would last a short while. I understand it was reformulated in 2022; while there are criticisms of the 2021 batch, I managed to get one from February 2021 and I couldn’t complain. As soon as I removed the cellophane from the box, I felt the perfume with force, and it intensified upon opening. In my opinion, it has a heavy and perceptible trail, lasting more than 12 hours on skin. It has a citrus and ‘spiky’ opening, evolving into an incredible creamy, spiced vanilla. I’m fascinated by its evolution; every time I smell it, it surprises me. I love it with all my heart; I can’t put into words how happy I am to have it 🤎

I have a 5 ml decant of ANI Nishane, so perhaps I can’t judge it completely, but I’m sure that after half an hour with two sprays on each forearm, I felt a very recognisable smell (90% similar) to Halloween Man X. That sweetness while drying down to skin-level is the same… I checked the notes, and the only thing they coincide on according to the website is cardamom and bergamot, which makes the similarity in the dry-down strange. What I am sure of is that whether it’s the vanilla of ANI or the tonka bean of Halloween Man X, they are heading down the same path to sweetness.

I’m in love with Cécile… everything she touches I like. And ANI was love at first sight. Those aromas where, the moment a molecule touches your pituitary, you hear Gregorian chants. For me, it’s perfect both in scent and performance. I’m reading that the latest batches have longevity problems… Well, I can’t say it’s not true. Next month I’ll buy a new bottle because I’m finishing what I have and I’ll be able to judge for myself. But what I can say is that the one I have now is working wonderfully. Without being an exaggerated skin longevity, about 6 hours hold up perfectly with a measured but effective projection. It doesn’t flood any room, but in a close conversation, you notice it. That sparkling, citrus opening that gives you goosebumps on the nose from the red pepper, bergamot, and ginger; a spicy and oriental transition thanks to the cardamom that takes you soaring into a fascinating sweetness of the best quality vanilla, where benzoin immerses you and finishes off with the creaminess of sandalwood, ambergris, and cedar. THIS IS WASTE NOT! It makes the sceptic believe. In summary: Age 20+, Unisex 100%. Any weather, although I prefer it in fresh. Scent: 10/10. Longevity: 7.5/10. Duration: 6-7 h. Projection: 8.5/10. Versatility: 9/10. $$$$ Final Score: 8.6/10. UPDATE: my worst fears were confirmed. I just bought a new bottle and, much to my regret, I can affirm that the new batches of ANI are not what they used to be. It has lost strength, that’s true, but the longevity is still good and the projection, although intimate, is present. It’s true that for a perfume costing 345 euros and with Nishane’s reputation, you expect an unstoppable beast, a Bengal tiger… but what you receive is, at most, an Iberian lynx. Disappointing. Despite everything, it remains in my Top 5, because the essence remains. Scent: 10/10. Longevity: 6/10. Duration: 5-6 h. Projection: 6/10. Versatility: 9/10. $$$$ 3.45 €/ml. Final Score: 8/10.
