Jovanovic plays with his patchouli fetish in Monsieur, evoking 70s classics like Givenchy Gentleman, but with a brutal and modern result. It contains 50% patchouli oil, something rare, making it addictive if you like wood; in my case, it does. At first sniff, I was knocked out: a dramatic, dark, and elegant opening. The orange, aldehydes, and the camphoraceous touch of the wood with suede hit you like a leather glove. It’s rare, but it calls you to keep smelling more. The rum (of high quality) sweetens and adds character, making it very masculine. It joins the cedar and incense for a mysterious and sensual aroma. The vanilla and amber drydown softens that heat on the skin, and the musk blends everything perfectly. It results in a modern, potent, original, and very usable fragrance. It’s a serious job and I loved it. Jovanovic plays with masculinity and sensuality like Cary Grant, Marlon Brando, or Sean Connery. A work of art within everyone’s reach. Rating: 9.1
Initially, it smells of orange patchouli with liquor. Then the smoke arrives, gaining presence among the other ingredients. The patchouli remains, but blended with incense and extra notes, it doesn’t stand out too much. The cedar gives it a strong masculine character. At the end, the vanilla appears very subtly; the orange and liquor are almost imperceptible, you just intuit a smoky patchouli. The performance on my skin was terrible; I could barely smell it unless I got close. I didn’t test it in a crowded environment; simply, it doesn’t work with my chemistry. Ideal for fresh climates and totally masculine, though that’s subjective. I like the scent, especially the impactful opening, but due to the poor performance and price, I rule it out. Still, give it a try.
A Jovanovic masterpiece: earthy, potent patchouli with an initial citrus spark. Within minutes, the alcoholic rum sweetness rounds everything out. After five hours, it settles into a flat yet chocolatey-orange scent that’s sexy and intriguing. I wore it for a special occasion; not everyone enjoyed the dry-down, but the trail is addictive. Brutal longevity: over 10 hours on clothes even after washing. Ideal for those over 30.
Absolute masterpiece, I believe it’s Jovanovic’s finest. It opens with an earthy, potent, and intense patchouli that eventually yields to a citrusy touch before the rum alcohol sweetens the experience. After five hours, it settles into a super interesting and sexy chocolatey-orange tone. I wore it for a special occasion: the opening didn’t please everyone, but the drydown left most people addicted. Lasts over 10 hours on clothes even after washing. Best for those over 30.
The name is perfect: Monsieur. It smells of everything that word implies: perennial, traditional, reliable and secure. Deep patchouli with forest echoes, nuanced with amber, wood and smoke. It is historical masculinity in scent: the gentlemen on the Titanic smoking and playing poker. Because of this classic charge, it has something familiar to everyone, because we have all had grandfathers, uncles or fathers who smelled of ‘Monsieur’. It’s a bottled memory; in my case, my paediatrician smelled like this. That masculinity that conveys security, reliability, warmth, elegance and seriousness. Merci, monsieur.
The name fits perfectly: Monsieur. It smells of everything that word implies: perennial, traditional, reliable and secure. Deep patchouli with forest echoes, accented with amber, wood and smoke. It is exactly what historical masculinity aimed for in scent. Imagine the gentlemen on the Titanic smoking and playing poker; they smelled like this, that very defined masculinity expected of them. For that classic charge, it has something familiar to all of us, because we have had grandfathers, uncles or fathers who smelled of ‘Monsieur’. It is a bottled memory; in my case, my paediatrician smelled like this. That masculinity that conveyed security, reliability, care, elegance and seriousness. Merci, monsieur.
Malle understood his house as a publishing house where perfumers had total creative freedom, an indisputable merit. Here, patchouli reigns in an unusual concentration, so if you don’t like it, be warned: it starts very intense. There is a subtle mandarin note that adds freshness. What’s interesting is its multifaceted development: after two hours, that patchouli hammer softens and blends with rum, surrounded by woods and spices, almost resembling pine. In the dry down, the woods and spices yield to a sensual mix of vanilla and amber. It’s a soft finish where the woods are barely noticeable. It unites the classic with the modern in a sophisticated way. Not recommended for fans of commercial perfumery.
I started with a sample and wasn’t convinced at first. With time and repeated wear, I began to appreciate its fragrance. Highly recommended for any occasion, especially in cold weather (autumn, winter, and early spring). There is no other perfume that smells quite like this.
I bought a sample and at first it didn’t suit me. But with time and repeated wear, one starts to appreciate the scent. Highly recommended for low temperatures (autumn, winter and early spring). Nothing else smells quite like this.
Masculine, elegant, mature and sober. A spectacular patchouli. A proper beast of a fragrance.
This perfume is pure olfactory brutalism. The most beastly and punchy thing I’ve ever tried; next to it, everything else smells like a child’s toy.
