Spiced and fruity. Not as sweet as the Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger, but in the same line. The blend of fruits (apple) and spices is very rich. It’s a bit more aquatic than the Tommy, not as dense but equally rich.
It’s a scent that blends things and brings back memories of other luxury fragrances, though I’m not sure which note stood out the most. It’s like a cross between Montblanc Legend, Boss Bottled and perhaps YSL Homme. Obviously, they are good… and it has nothing to do with Tommy Hilfiger, which highlights the citrus more. Penguin is exquisite, good value and has a lovely bottle. It meets expectations from 1 to 7. I give it a 5 because it lacks that ‘wow’, but tastes are written in the stars. Perhaps on another skin I would have liked it more.
On my skin, the woody notes dominate, soft and subtle, although the apple’s sweetness tames the pine. I’d love it to be more potent because, in itself, it’s delicious. Scent: 8/10. Projection: 5/10. Longevity: 5/10. Price: 8/10.
Original Penguin For Men: For me, this brand is one of the most reliable. They aren’t masterpieces nor do they last forever, but they smell good and get the job done. This fragrance is subtle and pleasant, with notes of apple, woods and a powdery touch with a faint sweetness. It’s perfect to wear anytime, day or night. It’s a staple that won’t disappoint and the price is a bargain. Scent: 8/10. Projection: moderate. Longevity: 6 hours. Recommended.
I received this as a gift five years ago and have used it a few times. It just doesn’t convince me: it’s flat, linear, cloying and excessively sweet for my taste. There’s no complexity; the red apple and vanilla dominate, drowning out the rest. It looks youthful, for casual moments and young women. Not overwhelming, ideal for under-25s. Although it’s affordable, I suggest trying before buying.
Original Penguin for men starts sweet, with that fougère touch that gives instant class. The catch is it fades quickly; it’s not olfactory fatigue, but rather barely noticeable to me and others. Only up close can you feel that soft, rich sweetness it promises.
